haha, if the KX frame was more modern with disc brakes, if it can be lowered enough so she can touch the ground and if the motor is easy enough to kick start then I don't have a problem with that!

yeah I could ask sammi for a shave. It's out west so not far to go. Good that is has both sets of wheels ay. Latest KX brochure shows a difference of about 10kg between the KX65 and the KX85 big wheel. 110mm seat height diff. Small wheel KX85 a diff of 80mm only, against the KX65.

You'd be best to take the kids & try out a few - 65, sml & big wheel 80's. Personally i think that an 80 would be better for Indy. 80mm for a kid is quite a variance esp taking in mind that Tawny is petite. But then again depends if she has the length in her legs. Are you sure it has both sets of wheels? As i didn't think you can jst switch between small & big wheel? They have many things different.

Actually rereading his answer in that context it looks like he means it is a small wheel model, not that it has (is) a small wheel set.
I'll take Tawny along this arvo and we'll have a play with the suspension sag.

He didn't word it very well but read to me as a small wheel model.
How do you think Tawny wud go on an 80 though? Wud it have too much kick for her - she wouldn't weigh much.
Won't know till she tries one though & you could tame it down - jst means spending more on it.

Yeah it's a tough one. This bike would see them through a lot longer than having a KX60 for just a yr. The KX80 would be perfect for Indy, and Tawny would grow into it. But Tawny rides more than Indy so who do I cater for? On the bell curve of scales of economy and rider progression it would be better to get the KX80 small wheel but then Tawny would have a slow start until she grows a bit taller. In terms of current rider comfort level and enjoyment factor the KX65 would suit Tawny better.

decisions aye!!! Try her on an 80 & see how she goes. I'm just thinking her on my 80!! But she's a confident rider so easily wud outdo me anyway lol.
No matter what you choose i think you'll be upgrading/changing bikes again as a small wheel won't do Indy for very long he'll outgrow it.

is the KX80 the same as the RM80, just in disguise like spikedpunch's bike, or is it a completely separate Kawasaki model? or was the suzuki-kawasaki thing after 2001? is it the same or similar chassis to the KX85?
it looks like they haven't changed much http://www.pitstop.net.au/view/bikes-kawasaki-wsm/page/query/plu/14740/ i can only assume that if this manual works for all the years that they must be very similar models, maybe ask hemex the manual guru if he can find one

Good to know. The KX80 is lighter than the XR100 so if I can lower it enough...Tawny is hardly going to bottom out the suspension...I reckon it will be okay. When she had a DS80 she loved it for it's go. Being so light she could burble around on the KX80 all day, not even hit the powerband and be happy. But it would be there for her when she's ready.

She won't be able to burble around on it long - they need to get in that powerband. Burbling around you mite wanna invest in a sparkplug factory! When i was learning on my i went through plugs galore from not giving it enough. In saying that though we did change a few things so it didn't foul as many.
Flywheel weight which cheese suggested would be worth looking into.

Kids are welcome to try out either of the 80's at our place.

You're right oldskool, there's bugger all KX65/RM65's around at the moment.
I've looked at a couple down south (Pahiatua and New Plymouth!!...) but they are a bit scruffy and transport costs are a bit of killer.
Need to buy another one to replace my youngest boys 'flying PW80' so if anyones got a late model ('05 to '07) tidy one let me know too.
Thanks

Well that's 2 of us in the market for a KX60(5). What recession?
Anyway, sanity prevailed, I'll wait for a 60 to come up rather than go for the 80. Meanwhile just swapped the XR200 motor over to XL185 and lowered the suspension so it's only about 4 inches higher than a XR100. Indy's play bike while waiting his turn on the KX60. It's a runner but misses before it gets a chance to rev out, sounds like starving. Have to check whether the XR200 carby and CDI is compatible with the XL185 motor. Any clues anyone?

wouldnt think there is much difference if any other than jetting slightly different curve maybe?

It's on already, I just simply removed the old donk and plopped the XL185 in it's place. It's all wired for the XR200 and same carb. When the 200 ran it revved right out to it's max so nothing wrong with the CDI or coil. Once I put the 185 in it started first kick...couldn't believe it! Idles well. Tappets are a bit clacky. Timing Chain doesn't rattle. But once you throttle up to about midway it starves...but doesn't backfire so might not be fuel? I'm wondering if the advance curve of the CDI may be slightly different? If it runs would the magneto coil be faulty?

New MNZ year coming up so you may find that kids will be going up a class then into the 85's so more 60's/65's will be for sale. Is that the motor that had seized at Tussock???

Nah that motor is out now. The erraticly running motor is the spare XL185 motor. Just consulted the manual. If the ignition isn't advancing then the cause could be the pulser generator being sticky. Might be the culprit.
Incidently the 185 oil pump is the same as the 200!

Re the xr -I think your boy is ready for an 80 or 85 but I think the 65 might give your girl a fright.
I got a bit of advice from a bloke who was one step in front of us. He said to haul the $25 plug out and just use the $5.00 ones untill the kids are on the gas a lot.
