Learner bikes market?

hi im in the market for a gn250(not the new stuff) =<just an oldish one and i need advice as to whats good and bad about this bike ie can it hold 100km on a motorway, i was told only on a striaght( no offence to suzuki:2thumbsup) anyway whats its performance, my question is to any mighty gn250 owners what kind of performance do you get from your bikes, i know their good bikes but how good.

I had one as a loaner bike. Out of all the bikes i've ridden in the 250 class its got to be the junkiest - brakes suck, its unstable and its underpowered.

But all this coming from someone who likes sports bikes so it is a matter of opinion. Alternative suggestions - RG150, GPX250, ZXR250 Hyosang GT250r, CBR250 or if you are brave RGV250.

The FXR150 I road was very disappointing as well - but if you are not one for power, then it might suit.

Budget. Whats the $$'s you have available? There is 250's and then there is 2fucken50's!!!

Don't worry about the performance of the GN...there isn't any. That said I had one as a first bike and for that it was good, not too fast and shouldn't get you into any trouble. Bit like a heavy mountain bike, push type. If your skills are zero you could do worse. If you have some skills and are happy on a bike then you will soon need something with a bit more go to get you into trouble:cool:

whats the ability to cruise at 100km and can it tour?Cruise? no. It will get up to 100k perhaps, but it will take all your effort to stay at that speed. Other 250's like the (GPX, GSX, GT-R etc) <--tourers, are vastly more capable on the open road, and then theres the inline fours that go really really well, and then theres the two smoker 250's that are emphatically NOT learner bikes.

Gn...reliable commuter...good to learn "basics", but not much more...they are rated new I think at 18hp...yr average sports 250 is rated at at least 35hp

Get a GPX! Im not biased in anyway of course :bleh: but you can pick them up for the same price as a GN, they are reliable and very easy to maintain with all information available online :) Cruises at 100 without breaking a sweat :sweatdrop

You get sweet fuck all performance from a GN250, it can go at 100, takes a while to get up and you're ringing it out a bit. If you want to tour frequently on it give it a skip.

It is a great learner bike which I would recommend, but it is seriously underpowered and you will outgrow it within a year (if not sooner)

Probably not what you want to hear about, but I love my VL. Only at L plate stage (2 weeks time next step is booked). Nice and stable, don't get too tired, even though I am not fit. Bike handles 100 (oops I mean 70 :yawn: ;)) Km/hour alright. I am planning to out-grow this bike by Christmas, we all need to have goals. Long term, something bigger would be good, so maybe if you want something to last you longer, wait till the Licence laws change next year. But if you are impatient like me, the VL is great to start on.

I had a gn....notice the past tense? :argh: Used as much petrol as the spada does and went...for lack of a better word...slower. Horrible bike :girlfight: I hated it. slow, shit brakes, frame made from bananas etc etc etc

I got 27K's per liter out of my GN, only thing I miss. And the feeling is coming back to my arse now:2thumbsup
