I'm having continuous problems with the database. If they continue I will have to restore to an older backup. Will keep you informed.

Hardware change, Database upgrade, OS Update - ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!

That's like trying to do a stoppie in the wet.

An accident waiting to happen :)
(I am kidding)

Good luck. It does sound very much like you do know what you are doing, so I will wish you good luck. I hope the log files give you a good clue and that you don't have to roll back to an earlier version.

The last one of these inexplicable ones I had, it turned out to be the Server firmware (RAID controller), which was not coping with how the new DBMS rev wanted to address it. Tooooooo stressful.

I beginning to think it is a hardware issue. Both gzip and bzip2 will compress, but get errors when trying to uncompress, rsync fails most of the time & apache SegFaults all the time and processes one at a time will start using 100% CPU. Along with databases tables not repairing and lshw only reports one SIMM when there are two, I think it's a problem with memory.

Might get MegaNetServe to replace the memory.

Easy...I'm guessing you can't do stoppies??

Well cowpoos, it was always my ambition to do lots of stoppies. After a few goes I found that I wasn't always putting the bike down smoothly and didn't want to cause damage. Could have been the ABS cutting in just when you don't want it to.

What concerns me is server rooms are usually bloody cold and I don't see any sign of those 2 being cold

Server overheating...........

Spank, your problem with file compression, we've previously had, and it was memory. Motherboard didn't like the 2GB sticks from memory.

Now, would someone please tell me which server room those lovely ladies are in. I have never seen them in any of my server rooms (but I would love to )

MegaNetServe will be taking down the server on Monday morning Pacific time (GMT - 8) to replace the memory. I guess that's this afternoon/evening some time.

Thats about a 20 hour time difference, so assuming they take it down during business hours around 8am or something, it would be around 4am on Tuesday...

Hey, it's never that easy!

I hope the installer of the previous memory regains consciousness in the near future?
