And they have a stupid friggin name as well. What gives with these bloody things? Got them undone but no way can I get them done up again. Is there a knack to them?

'S almost certainly munted. The cheap ones (those where the 'thread' is just punched out sections) are pretty much a one shot exercise. Replace with a new clamp.

Bugger, bugger, bugger. They are holding my heat shields on. If they are munted that means I'll have to weld the new ones to the inside of the shield somehow?

Oh, why did I ever attempt this. New pipes, no worries, just take the old ones off and chuck em on. Looked easy enough in the manual. Got the shields off, then got stuck half way thru getting old ones off. Put them back on and now can't get heat shields on.

With a bit of careful application with a small hammer (or similar). the punched out "slots" that form the thread ...can be straightened/flattened. Most engineering workshops may be able to make/do what you need (Take one in and show them what you want)... if that does not work to your satisfaction. Do it right the first time... otherwise you will have more issues with them at a later time.

They thread through brackets attached to the heat shields.
All you have to do is unwind the new ones till they open up and thread the end through the brackets.
