yeah mate. My old boss has a place up there and a couple fellas from work going so i'll probably be there unless i'm totally broke.
Have you been to other ones this year flyTM? I went to the 2 dayer last year and know it's good but is it getting cut up bad? do they grade it after every ride they have?

i did all the epic taupo rides last year and each time they were mint, they must run round the tracks with a bobcat or something.

see the loops are 40 50km after today dont think the 50 would be a worry is it dusty

26th April 2009, 22:12
I'd say it's not very technical really. Pretty flowing type of hoon and there's nothing that'll really stop ya. Ya do have to go down to first for the cool stuff but it'll be 3rd 4th waaaap waaaaap standies most of the weekend i recon. Gonna gear my bike up for this as i don't want the boys with 5 speeds taking me out on straights lol and it forces you to do the tech shit fast (or stall, or loop out!)
Jt: hopefully it'll piss down cos the soil up there drains really well and just turns to super tacky loam. It's dark soil and is in pine forest so with the current weather it will only be dusty on the road sections that join the forrest sections together and only if it's dry too.
Epic rides are ALWAYS good. Great trails, great trail marking, really safe and hopefully nice and cold too for that extra horsepower and less sweat ha ha

ahhhhhhh, ooops. I'm out for this one. Bugger. Work mate pulled out cos of work commitments and i don't wanna go hang with his mates (who i've never met) for the weekend so i'm gonna save the cash and go for a hoon down here. Damn was looking forward to riding on some decent soil rather than the rock, clay, grass or dust i'm so used to.
Oh well, next time

I would of said the other way around would be closer to the truth but I guess it depends on what you call technicalness? Most of the ones I've done have been pretty wide trails and fast as.

About 10 of us staying in one big ass cabin at Top Ten Holiday Park so say ello if anyone is staying there too. Ill be in a black falcon sedan with trailer. Probably only gonna ride the saturday though and hit Digger McEwans (Taupo MX track) on Sunday...cant handle two days of trail riding in a row, ill fall asleep in top gear.

um i call riverhead and woodchopper technicalness
where you dont get out of second gear
is it similar to the trail blazers, lots of forest tracks but not tight, 3rd and 4th gear sorta deal?

6th May 2009, 17:13
my mrs went on one of the trailblazers last year. it was her first trail ride. she only had real trouble in one part at the end.
id say the epic rides are very un technical for the majority, even their expert loops arent very hard.

I had a blast there yesterday - pissin down with rain.
Did the 40k loop first and then swapped bikes with a mate to do the 50k- an 08 YZF450 - really enjoyed it too - sweet bike to ride and getting mean drifts on the pumice corners with it. Compared to my kdx it felt very light.

so what was everyone's favourite section?
personally i loved the 'berm trail', the expert sections of the 50k, and most of the 40k track. i didnt enjoy the short track much as i couldnt seem to get into much of a rythm on it

yea the berm trail was pretty tight, as were most of the reds. i liked the odd tree root half way round some of the berms too
did 3 laps of the 50km on the Saturday, slept well that night.
Really liked the tight but fast Berm trail. Roller coaster was fun. Lots of nameless sections i was in love with too.
Best part was just how workable the pumice was and hanging the rear tyre out the whole time.
Wasn't so fond of pumice hill, by the 3rd lap it was pretty shreaded up.
anyone take any good action pics or vids?
