BEARS racing opportunities

OK, so I've checked out Johan's post regarding the BEARS series "darnsarf", and I'm wondering if something similar happens "upnorf".

Or to put it another way just how many BEARS racing opportunities do you get?

I've already got a dedicated track CBR1000RR but seeing as how I've managed to write off my road bike I'm considering purchasing an ol' (cheap!!!) Ducati or sumthin' to top up the limited track opportunities you get with an F1 bike.

My (warped) thinking is this:
1: I don't wanna join the six hundy crowd (although I admit it's the smart choice)
2: I don't want to (can't) sell the CBR (it's too much fun and I'd lose a shedload of $$$)
3: I might be able get extra race opportunities if I buy the right road bike.

I'm not too keen on trying to manage 2 bikes at meetings (maybe the odd street meet) so I'm wondering how many dedicated BEARS meetings there might be, without spending a fortune to travel to the mainland. It wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't away at work half the year but time is also a huge factor for me so SI rounds would be a major hassle.

I've nothing sorted, just musing on nightshift, so would appreciate some extra input to add to my confusion.

If this new naked class comes in for the nats that could be another but yeah faaaark all !
675 is adaptable, like ya can F2 and any bears !

Seriously tho, an FXR 150 while slow is actually a viable form of open road transport. :gob:
Not really what most people would want for a fang in the weekends but that time could be spent on the bucket track.
I don't know of a cheaper, easier way to get more track time than any other class I know of.

Do have a look in at Kaitoke sometime.

Hmmm, 30km's to hill, 12km's x 2 and 30km's home again = 84km's. 84km's on an FXR is absolutely not something I would contemplate for anything other than a substantial wager. In fact the ride could well be the result of losing said substantial wager....

Is there bucket racing at Kaitoke? I absolutely will stop in for a squiz one day, it sounds like good fun for both spectators and participants.

As much as I appreciate the suggestion I can't see myself substituting a now munted R1 for an FXR. While some people may debate the idea most vociferously I dare say even my race only CBR1000RR would predispose me towards a, shall we say less demanding form of transport. Not to mention I live rurally and when I do a bread/milk run down to the shops I need the milk not to have gone off by the time I get it back home....or scooting down to Lake Ferry for lunch it would nice to actually find lunch on the menu rather than dinner....

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned to you the Pro Twins class that AMCC runs .... yeah, the title is a fuck up cos it's the same as the national class which is limited to the stock 650cc's, but the AMCC one is for Open Twins.

Guess it needs to clarified and perhaps changed to Open Twins so everyone knows, but if you have a BEARs twin this is a good class to race as you can also cross enter into the other club classes.

After that you have BEARs at the street circuits, the annual Post Classic meeting runs a BEARs class and then you go down to Ruapuna in Feb for the SOT, which makes owning a BEARs bike totally worth it.

Plenty of racing really, especially if it's competitive enough to go in the other club classes or if you have a second jappa.

Can't say you won't enjoy a bears ride but to buy one to race ya would have to be prepared to cross the ditch i'm thinkin !

Been looking at the costings of getting to say ruapuna for the bears meet there on the 10th and it is a bloody great expence just gettin there

Ferry = $320 + $100 diesel + $100 entry = $520 each
Van + 2 riders
Ferry = $430 + $100 diesel + $200 entry :- 2 = $365 each
Van + trailer + 3 riders
Ferry = $820 + $150 diesel + $300 entry :-3 = $423 each
6m truck (hopefully 4 bikes + gear + riders)
Ferry = $840 + $180 diesel + $400 entry :- 4 = $355 each
6m truck + trailer (6 riders)
Ferry = $1320 + $200 diesel + 600 entry :- 6 = $353 each
So it don't really get any cheaper after two bikes per van and i snore like ya wouldn't believe lol

Were do all the BEARS racers I met at Mothers hide during the winter?

There were quite a few Ducati race bikes I haven't met or seen before at any meeting. (such as 748, 996, 996 fitted with a 998 engine...:Punk:)

The hardest part, as always, is to find out about the BEARS meetings.

Mothers track day is word by mouth only...?

Where can I read more about AMCC Open Twin class?

Also, I didn't realise PMCC also had an Open Twin class, so I only signed up in F1.
On the race day when I asked to cross enter F1/Open Twin, I was denied. I'm not sure why.

As other said, SOT is THE BEARS meeting. I had three days at the track, loved every minute of it!
