View Full Version : Bikers in Hororata on Sat

I live in Hororata and as I set out for a ride on Sat arvo a group of about 5 bikes had just gone passed and were now infront of me. Call me ignorant but as a new rider I was surprised to see that the 1st 2 were sports and the rear 3 were harley style bikes all in the same pack. I thought this was pretty cool as Ive always had a love for the hog style but now I ride a CBR, and I had just always thought you stuck with your own kind!
So I was hanging just behind them while we were all heading the same way and checking out the loud chromed beast infront of me(man I sounded nice).
If I wanted to join their ride do I just tag along till there next stop and say hi then??
Again I thought it was great to see different bikes sharing the road, and it felt cool pretending I was 1 of them even if I was at the rear for 10 or so mins!

I rode with a mate of mine who owned a Harley for ages. The irony is I owned the same bike as you at the time. He could keep up with anything on his Fatboy round corners, incl a TL1000s and an RF900:shit:. Respect!
Doesn't matter what you ride.

Aren't we all motorcyclists? The subsets are an attitude, and they exist in/on all brands.

Awesome to see the agricultural sector of motorcycling sharing the love!
slowly they seem to be being purchased by more riders and less posures.
They are starting to wave back, a few weekends ago I was heading to Taupo with a trailer load of dirtbikes and a string of harleys passed me- the last one waved- I think!?:finger:

Not unusual from what Im used to. Down here I often ride in a group that has a couple litre bikes, a zx14 ninja, a couple harleys, some 2 fiddys etc etc. I get fucking sick of all this my (sports) bike is better than your (harley) bike is better than your whatever. Fuck we all bought them for the same reason, we love two wheels. Seems a bit gay to shut down your opportunities of meeting other people just cos of what bike they ride. Ive met some awesome people over the years on a huge variety of different types of bikes. Fuckit I'll ride with anyone who will join, as long as they arent wearing a patch.

My riding mates have all kinds of bikes. Nobody gives a shit who's riding what that week. All bikes are cool. Well, except VFR800s (I really hate them for some reason).

I see no issue w/ that, and if they stop at a pub or cafe then jus introduce yerserf....most bikers are a friendly bunch and love talkin bout bikes and riding in general....they would prolly give you pointers on your riding too if they see it

As Bren said, you can just say hello to any group of bikes at the local cafe (or your local pub as it's such a bike gathering point). It's easy enough if you're keen to ride in a group. One word of advice, not to sound too patronising, but if you do find yourself riding in a group, ffs keep your riding within your comfort zone. It's too, too easy to get swept up with faster riders.
I've also noticed that some people post up invites for rides out on here. I'll do the same next time I manage to co-ordinate my mates.

it's getting easier...while in ChCh at Easter I was the only jappa in the group, all harley's and triumph's. Felt bit intimidated until I pointed out that broken down their bikes represented will over 50% oriental components.......

Ride your own ride!
You can tag along with anybody...
Just be safe!
Leave enough room!
I get nervous heaving anything following to close up my bum....
Nobody wants to stop to tend to a mishap.....!!!!!
Groups will always wait somewhere to regroup.
The 2 Italian sportsbikes I tagged along with for 1200 kms last weekend on my harley didn't have to wait very long, but waited they did...
Could I have stayed with them?
I was riding within my comfort zone....
well within...
Happy with that

I will ride with anyone. Have posted a couple of rides on here and have met some cool people. Only really ridden with cruisers so far. That is purely because I'm not sure i could keep up with the sports bike. But, hey, if they don't mind waiting for me to catch up I'll ride with them too.
