Hey Guys
Been awhile since ive posted up here. Probably about 2 and a half years or so. Anyway i wanted to know if you allow pit bikes to run with the buckets? Im thinking about getting another bike and am keen to do some laps. I no its definatley not eligable but would you let a 85cc supermoto run in the non points races?
Keen to hear your thoughts.

so what do you need to get into this?
bike, gear, MNZ licence, trailer, entry fees? anything else?
Skunk
2nd July 2009, 21:50
In Wellington we don't need an MNZ license. We do run to their rules.
Trailer is needed only if your begging skills suck.
Everything else you list is needed.
Plus a sense of fun.

That could be for an MNZ licence, day licences are usually about $40 I think or you get a proper one for about $120 or something. But like Skunk said, in Wellington you don't need one, it's only if you want to race at the BOB or Taupo or somewhere do you need one.

40$ for a day licence, is over priced. I think vic club charge 25.

Hey all i just bought an AX100 off Tardme so plan to bucket the shit out of it and come have some fun! I live not far from the track (if its the one up by the windmill??) so shouldn't be to much of a mish to get it there:niceone:
How often are races held in Welly? any tips for the bike ?
My plan so far is just to clean it up and strip it down to the bare bones -- oh and figure out a way to get it from Palmy when all i have is my other bike:rolleyes::msn-wink:

Yep, rain or shine there is racing.
Have a look at the results for the first three rounds for bike numbers being used
http://bucketracing.co.nz/results.php?pg=results
If in doubt, nylon it. Have you put you bike on it's side to check what touches the ground?

do you have to have nylon on the front wheel bolt sides?
Yes, or have nylon nearby on the forks as they WILL hit the ground WHEN you crash.
I used a lathe to drill and tap an M6 thread into the ends of the axles and put nylon bobbins on from there. They don't need to stick out heaps.
saxet
12th April 2011, 12:16
Take care with nyloning, sticky out bits never expectd to touch down in a crash can and the track owners are not amused when it happens.
It's worth making sure that bolt heads etc. are recessed into the nylon.
Sorry to make life hard.

Hey all,
Can anyone tell me what is required for the upcoming easter weekend? What is needed to race in the form of licences and what not? What needs to be organised before and what can be organised on the day? Thanks.........and (almost forgot) I need to find a front brake master cylinder for my AX100,the one ive got on the bike leaks fluid and is no good.Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks again

Have a look on the easter thread. You need to belong to a MNZ affiliated club, like Vic & can get day licences I believe. Contact Skunk. Bike will need to be nyloned on any contact areas for a crash & have folding pegs & usual race bike stuff (see MNZ site for those rules) & other threads for Nylon ideas.
Wrecker or Trademe for a master cylinder, I thought AX were so old had cable brakes, but never paid much attn, you can get rebuild kits for them, ask at a bike shop. Or just buy another one with the same size. Will be written on it underneathish in metal & say something like 1/2 which is the bore size, 1/2" or 11 which is 11mm.
could risk something like this but it will be Chinese & no idea of quality.

Hah. Maybe.
I have a gp100 in the garage that I'm doing some 'hori az' crash protection for, then it needs inner tubes repaired/replaced (and hopefully the spoke wheels are not stuffed), then it might be all good to get around the track haha... It's got chengshin tyres and I'm pretty sure the stock rear shocks are rooted and the forks need oil... but it'll be a laugh at least. Oh yeah gotta repack the muffler too...
F5 Dave

hey there are plenty of people who have raced GP100s bog stock. Biggest improvement you will make is some tyres, but come out & race & check out the various bikes in comparrison.

Make sure the crash protection is up to the task. Sing out if you need a hand with it, or maybe talk to Sully (Motometal?)

Well I hope skateboard wheels hose clipped to the bottom of the forks, bits of dish brush bolted to the bottom of the pegs, more bits of dish brush lock wired to the chamber, wine cork bar ends and proper swingarm sliders are acceptable. Proper crash protectin is waaaaay too pricey. Wouldn't take me bugger all time on a lathe with some nylon or whatever to whip up customs (and I'm useless!). Can't believe some of the prices people want for these things eh.
F5 Dave
29th February 2012, 14:06
yeah but buying the nylon or acetal is surprisingly expensive in small qtys.
Jase W
29th February 2012, 14:10
Yet the vendors would be producing large quantities. So they justify their daylight robbery margin by the fact that it would probably cost the same to do it yourself as a one-off. Yet its costing them two-thirds of eff all. Dicks.
F5 Dave
29th February 2012, 14:46
I think the common approach is to find out the point of pain & back off a touch & see if you get away with selling it at that price. Even so many companies still don't make enough money to continue so perhaps the price to market isn't a total rip off even if looking at the materials & work required it is if you see what I mean.
heck I dunno I just turn some up on the lathe. If you find some plastic I can probably help you make some. I work for offcuts:crazy:

First step would be to rock up at Kaitoke on Sunday, shame you didn't post last week before the Easter meet, if you'd turned up with a set of leathers you could have taken my bike for a spin. You can have a go on it this weekend if you like, but you'd have to drag yourself up to Auckland to do it. Chances are if you head to Kaitoke this weekend you may still get a ride, the Wellington folk are a top bunch of folk, if it wasn't for the people down there we wouldn't keep heading down whenever we can regardless of the fact that it's an awesome track.

I take it the next meeting is on the 20th of May? Im interested in feeding my life long bike addiction through the application of buckets into my life. I have a bike that can be persuaded into racing, but would like to try a few laps before I take the disc grinder to an otherwise servicable and practical form of transport. I have been delving through some 54 pages of bucket threads and am feeling quite overwhelmed with all the info, although I have a few questions
My main question for you is what sprocket gearing would your run on a stock b grade rg50 around kaitoke?
Best place to get protectors to put on the axles and bars? (or are there more spots?)
What form of koha would be appreciated for a few laps?
F5 Dave
23rd April 2012, 09:46
11T front 50 rear on a screamer engine, but just the 11T would probably do for a std bike.

Casual rides are a bit of a shit on Kart run days, really you would prob have to enter the full day for the $45 it costs for non-member entry.

Nylon, Acetal (Best!), UHMWPE are plastics you can use, see what you can find about the place.
Chopping boards, skateboard wheels, (Not the cheap ones!) and all sorts of other things can be used.
There are more spots: pegs, pipes, foot-levers, frame protrusions and more.
Common sense plays a part but some parts you normally wouldn't think about can touch down in a decent crash
Don't forget to think about the way the bike can roll, pitch and flip.
Obviously you aren't going to be able to coat the whole thing in nylon but you need to go real hard on it because it's very important.

Excellent, time to mug some skateboarders. I just KNEW those hooded sidewalk slinkers could come in handy. I did save the cutting boards the wife threw out a while back-sweet! Got alot of areas to cover.
I got rid of a heap of bits i had for my old rg, they would be quite helpful now. 27mm clip ons? I wonder if I can make a sleeve from some pipe. Or do you guys have a source for them?
If I could put the bike together for the 20th. is there any way of getting it checked before the day so i can make sure its going to be compliant?

A good way to check nylon, lie the bike on the ground on each side and rock it around. Is there anything metal touching?
Some other key points:
Both brakes work
Has a catch bottle
Oil filler and sump plug are lock wired
Throttle returns on its own
Nothing is loose e.g. Exhaust, pegs, bars

My last Spare bucket I bought had skateboard wheels (I think) that were gutted of the centres & had a hoseclamp through the centre & wrapped around the fork & swingarms close enough to protect from the axles. Ugly but effective.

If I could put the bike together for the 20th. is there any way of getting it checked before the day so i can make sure its going to be compliant?
