Can you wear kevlar at MotoTT track days? My leathers got cut off me after my wee oopsie at the track and only have a leather jacket and kevlar pants at the moment until my new leathers arrive in about 4 / 5 weeks

Session 2 bit me last May so not keen to repeat that! Will be taking it easy till the track warms up a bit.

What do people think? Lower the PSI 1 or 2 more for the cold? Last time out I ended up with 31f/30r (taken cold just before each session) on M3's.

I'm on conti comps so start at 28f 23 rear anyway ! First time on the bike so don't know how the cold shear will effect it yet ! (not that i'll be thrashing it enough to find out in the morning) Just hope the next blast to come up from south stalls a bit today !

Ya should have seen how bloody dry it was at the southern end of taupo grrrrrrr (knew that track wasn't gonna dry out faaark all today) has to be the coldest track day i been to haha had to be the noob in group 1 of all days !

Pleased there weren't too many serious bins, only the one smack into the wall at turn 12 that looked like it hurt !

A wet and cold track particulary in the crapola condition Taupo is currently in is never a good thing.
Using wets was the only option through that part of the day, im not sure if they check bikes going out in the wet to make sure slicks arent being used, might be a good idea in the future maybe.

That was the coldest trackday we have ever had!!! It started with frost and frozen puddles on the edge of the track and just as the sun should have warmed us up we had snow cloud overhead! All credit to the 120 riders who braved the elements and probably learnt more in one morning about wet/cold weather riding than in a whole year on the road! I was amazed at the keeness of the riders!
The lunch time Segway relay Race was HILARIOUS. The competitiveness of people showing through in "Running Full Stride in Full Leathers" and "Whole Body Willing the Machine Forward Faster", then after the race some went AWOL, on track it was discovered! The senior medical attendant binning it on the pit lane entry!
The afternoon bought the sunshine and finally a dry line.
Thank you Goblin, Matt Bleck and Kiwifruit. All the marshals and Lines Men had red noses and biting sore fingers and you still helped people and made the day go well. Thank you Very much.

Cold, wet, slippery... My first session was dry though and the track had mostly dried in the last session and a half. I won the free trackday for group 2. :D

Brrrrrrrrrrr that was freakin cold but still another great day. Thanks MotoTT!

First session was slippery but fun. Was looking like we'd get some temp into the track by lunchtime until that cloud sat on us.

Second session was hard work - my first time out on a wet track with the rain coming down. Was surprised how much grip there still was but also how quickly it let go. Those lines on the starting grid are seriously evil when wet. Found a line through the middle of them tho.

Third session the rain had almost stopped and I was starting to get used to the bike moving around and was pushing harder. By the end of the session I was enjoying it as much as riding in the dry.

Session four was weird. Most of the track had a dry line but it took me a good 5 laps to really start to trust the tyres again.

Bummer for all the people that binned. Hope no-one was hurt badly. Anyone count how many went down in the end?

Thanks to everyone that tried to help get my mate's bike going. Was a lost cause unfortunatly.

The Mormon Few were good cunts and thanks for putting us [THE MEGA FEW] up at your crib in Hamil ton. Some mean restraint displayed by all concerned on the wet track. I know I was egging to wind the 600 up but it was all about body position and throttle control today. For many, cold slicks/race tires and the wet track would have made for some interesting moments.

Cleaning up some motards in group 1 was fun too.
Nice overtaking there Quasi, hugging the dry line from out of no where!
Fruit was so smoove on the 600 at nana pace too. And thanks for the other stuff too. - O.o -

Who was the guy on the black gixxer race bike in group 1. Passed me on the outside of the turn 8 left hand sweeper at 50 kms more than I was doing! Did u have wets on....?

SOS nice to meet ya finally pity about the - 'no wheelies ` black flag ` policy' or we could have had some more fun down the front straight! instead spinning it out of every corner had to suffice.

Moto TT another very enjoyable day and the segway race was the most fun I've had on a segway since stealing them from the university security guards and running about !!:eek:

Hey guys, was an awesome day. great to meet all of you that I did. Sucks that my bike didn't start but I really appreciate all teh help I got from everybody trying to get it going again.

Looks like the plugs got gunked up and the plugs don't run hot enough to clear themselves off so there are new ones on the way.

All booked for june 20 so will see you all there.

Hmmm well what an eventful wee trackday that was. First off, the usual thank you to the Motott crew for another great day but in a departure from the last two days Id also like to thank in order of apperance...

The EMT crew, St Johns Ambulance, Taupo Hospital, 'The taxi guy', Chris Mitchell

...Yep Im the numpty on the ZX6R who screwed up your group 3 session 3 by having a bit of a lie down coming out of the sweeper onto the back straight. Went a bit wide (had done this in session 1 too but it had been dry) hit the 'rumble strip'. Not entirely sure what happened but needless to say in the wet/cold conditions the bike wasnt too stable out there on all that painted stuff and down we went.

Anyway, one sprained ankle, couple of burns, bruises and generally achy body later and I can still say it was a highly enjoyable day. I didnt get to see the bike but Im told it didnt come off to badly so thats good.

Anyway, all that aside, still had a great day and cant wait to get back out there.

Here's some footage from session 4 of group 2 (yellow group). Nothing special, just the usual.

I tried following kiwifruit (I think it was him?) on the cbr400 through the traffic till he exited the track. At the end of the video I got passed by a vtr1000 which I was stuck behind for the rest of the session, me just catching him in the corners and him powering away on the straights.
