So who knows lots about AC? I was looking at a mitsi, but the guy does the Heavy industries versions. Good or bad? 3k for a 7kw one installed 5 year warranty. Is it better to get the domestic versions?

How big an area are you looking to heat/cool? 7kw may be way more than you need.
How loud is the Heavy one?
Does it have an inverter to reduce power consumption?

Two of my mates have installed the Mitsi Heavy industries versions and have had 0 issues for about a year now.

They have 5kw units pointing down their hallways and manage to heat the whole house just fine.

the heavy industries version is practically the same except it has a slightly higher fan speed (so a little louder) and it looks industrial rather than looking "pretty" for hanging on your wall at home.

to figure out what Kw rating you need,

metre's cubed, times 55, divided by 11.

3k installed for a 7Kw is pretty much the going rate. PM me if you're in auckland and would like any more advice or another quote.

You're mistaken - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is the name of the company, and it is a sister company to Mitsubishi Electric. Although MHI as a company makes all kinds of big industrial stuff, it actually has more experience with aircon (including domestic units) than Mitsubishi Electric, and does more R&D, much of which gets passed onto or sold to the other company.

We have two MHI units - they've been in the house for a couple of years now. The inside units are a big fat compared to say Panasonic or some of the other units on the market, but they're VERY quiet, as are the outside units, which you can barely hear when they're running.

I have zero regrets about going with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The company we dealt with sold many different brands, but recomended MHI for performance. The only mistake I made was not getting a larger unit for the lounge - it was only $150 cheaper than the one in our basement, which has a larger output so it's barely working much of the time. Plus it has a few extra features, such as an automatic cleaning function that kills mould and bacteria in the unit.

You need to buy the right sized unit for the volume of air you're wanting to heat and/or cool. That's it.
You can't really get too big a unit - it won't hurt it not working too much (in fact, it means you'll be able to run it at less capacity) - it will just cost more to buy. Running costs for a given amount of heating or cooling will be approximately the same, regardless of the unit used (assuming the same efficiency).
However, if you get a unit with too small a capacity, it will be working too hard at the extremes of cold or heat, and will shorten it's lifetime and/or mean more maintenance.

do the required Kw calculation and get something similar to that. Slightly more will mean the unit isn't working as hard.

Cool MHI it is. I was worried about it not being as good as the domestic versions. I shoudl really say heat pump not AC....

7kw @ 3 grand install is a good deal personally would rather fujitsu but mitsi's are ok
