View Full Version : 250 Learners in CHCH

Hey ladies,
I was thinking about pulling all the 250cc lady riders in CHCH together so we could have a less intimidating riding group because lets face it, who wants to be be seen stuck behind a 650 bike . And we could go on less strenuous rides perhaps (i.e not up around hills with tight blind corners etc) :Pokey:
So I just wanted to see a show of hands and then we could perhaps arrange a ride for once a month or when the weather looks good?
It's time us 250 girls stuck together

I don't have my licence or bike yet but this is something I would be keen on, especially in the spring/summer!

That would be great. I get really embarrassed riding with the men and always finding myself at the back of the group then finding them all waiting for me to catch up. Oakie and I usually ride together eating the others dust!! I am not keen on all the fast winding roads either. I like to tootle along and enjoy the ride instead of worrying about the next blind corner and having an aching jaw from clenching it all the time. Just let me know when and where and I will try and make it. Sunday mornings are out for me. I work till about 1. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Fully agree with you about the winding roads. I'm not all that confident on my bike yet and would like to just get to know it a bit better with some comfy rides.
Sweet, I'll keep an eye on the weather and see if it will get any better in the near future.
Would Saturday mornings be better?

C'mon you girls - tell the boys to behave when they're riding with you. Boys follow at the back, girls go in front. Girls choose the route. No sulking in the cheap seats - cheer up or don't come. Boys gas all the bikes up while the girls stand around and yak.
Make the rules and expect the lads to stick to them, or next time no invite! :nono:
Why not have a slave-boy day? (sorry fellas, haha) Boys do all the work, girls get all the top bricks. Boys do dinner later on AND tidy up. (I can feel the red rep already..)

A group of us are riding this weekend as SDU has the weekend off work.
At this stage we all ready have some one else wanting to go Saturday.
Because his wife can come along as well.
Hopefully a few more girls will come on the ride as well, but is to early to tell at this point.
We ride at a good clip and do not mind waiting for the people that like to ride at their own pace.
If you want I can watch you and give some pointers.

My dream bike would definitey be a Harley but until then will probably but a Suzuki GN250 (I know someone who is selling one and I'm hoping that it's still for sale in a couple of months!)

That's the thing though. They don't want to have to ask others to change their riding style. They want to go for a low-thrill ride at their own pace on their similar sized bikes knowing that more experienced riders or those with much more impressive bikes aren't having to make allowances for them ... even if the others are happy to do so.

I would def say that this would be the case! I know that I wouldn't want other riders to feel that they had to babysit me on a ride. Granted it is nice to catch up with other bikers but I would feel really comfortable not have to worry about anyone else!

Chomdeley Children's Home bike run this weekend. Thought of going to that? It's pretty casual, you don't need to go fast, it's localized so it's hard to get lost, and there's plenty of other 250s going.
First time I've been on it was on a 250 cc with a good friend, also on a 250.

Completely agree with you on this. It's tough enough just getting used to the bike let alone trying to keep up with everyone else.

Just my opinion here, but I personally think if you've only had 5 minutes on your bike you should be doing a lot more riding before you start riding in groups.
It's fun to learn with someone, but then again it's not much fun when you need to focus on your own riding and have someone else behind or in front of you (possibly needing to focus on their own riding to?)
Yeap, as lemans says - ride as much as you can whenever you can.
Won't Alex ride with you?

Hey , I find it good to run at the front at times,
but it is also good to sit behind you guys on your smaller bikes.
I have had a few rides up here where I sat behind the little 250's and it was good to see you all pootling along at a good pace.
Yes the twisty bits are a bit scary at first, but you will get better at them with practice.
I dont mind following you on your little rides, and will even join you this comming summer, asI need to get one of thse 250's for myself.
I think they are great to play with, and also I need to do something about my licence ( about time says a few of you)
so Im saving my cash for a Yamaha 225 scorpion, should have one by Nov
Will be cheaper to fill up than my 1100, that will be a bonus

Exactly. This is why I'm saying no to offers now, and why I said in my original post "So I just wanted to see a show of hands and then we could perhaps arrange a ride for once a month or when the weather looks good?"

I only got the bike a week ago, and I've had work/rain in between :eek5: but I intend to do this. A lot.

Alex technically doesn't have a bike right now because it's being fixed up. Which is why he's been on my bike a lot more than me!

Jo I am more than happy to ride with you. I know how you feel, u dont want to be holding everyone up while you try and figure out how to get round a corner without falling off!
Do a bit of riding round with maybe 1 or 2 others until you are comfortable. Dont be afaid to group ride though, often there are people that want to ride at the back and dont mind the pace. Those that do go faster.
PM or txt me if you want to ride sometime, am happy to sit with ya just for a tootle out to sumner or something! :) Same goes for you Kiwiphoenix when you step up!

yeah, not to bad considering the price. Done a honest 15000km, last 12mths younger brother used it to commute to dairy farm, may have put buyers off as it was covered in mud form shingle road. In bits in garage , for clean up , engine service, needs new chain, sprockets and rubber cush drive for hub. Few other minor things to do ,but otherwise a good buy .
rumgirl cried, gone out for 15min's, came back to a frame with a engine in it sitting on garage floor.. decided to sort everything in one hit

Hi Ladies
I'm looking at updating my bike and Mrs Oakie suggested yesterday that we sell her bike too and get a BIG bike to share.
So if any you are not happy with your current 250 and would like something a bit zippier but still a 250, then her '93 CB250FM (aka Honda 'Jade') could be bought for oooh, haven't really thought about it but lets say somewhere around $3800 ono.
4 cylinder, naked style, about 25km/l consumption and with 24500km on the clock. Nice upright riding position and a breeze to ride. Goes well and I've certainly chased her down the road at 140kph a couple of times.
Anyone interested can PM me.
Advert over.
EDIT: Now Sold.

Just making a bracket for the other half "L"unatic plate, if I read the regs right it "must be clearly visible" and it will be, the colours are correct, the fact it follows the line of the bike to make it survive the rigours of the road we will see, have a spare plate if you need one Cruza.
