The 'speed light' you mention is a thing they fit for the Jap market. Set to come on at 100ks. your lucky it says speed, i once had a customer who got his bike bought to me by the AA saying, the oil light keeps coming on when i open it up!! Can be disconnected if it really annoys you.

I think you will find it comes on at 90kph. Spadas light up at that speed.
Cover with a bit of duct tape. Disconnect. Remove bulb. Or just get used to it...sort of built-in radar detector ;)

The japs wernt dumb and back in the day when they made in line 4 250s they equiped them with a device to let you know your going to fast.
This device takes inputs from the pegs and bars, and a moisture sensor on the seat to determine when your going to fast for your ability.

well i would of course, but that would permanently change the earth axis of rotation (we already have enuf trouble with the global warming issue), the VT250FII's were renowned for this sort of thing, they really should have had a warning sticker or two.

the speed limit in japan is 80kph. It will come on at or above 80. mostly.
it also means your going to crash, as jap bikes are not allowed to go over 80 they have a self destruct mechanism implanted into the bikes system.

Remember you have the US model and mine is japanese. I notice your speedo goes up to 200 as well :shit: Bit optimistic really :bleh:
So what is the light next to the neutral light and under the high beam light on yours?

On my NS1 it comes on at about 30, but strangely it goes out when the needle points to it. It sits at the 80k ish mark. Not too sure because my speedo only goes to 60. All I know after 60 is 100 = 11500 rpm in top...
But year, had slight heart failure when I took an 1989 GSXR250 for a blast the other week, and all was going well until this red light flashed up like a beacon!
The words on the light were unreadable (by me) Japanese characters.
Worked out shortly after my heart restart that it was the speed light, as the oil light was in English.... Gotta love imports ;)
