edit - title should have read "in the words of .." - what the hell was I thinking?

"I liked it so much I bought the company".

I've always had a leaning towards owning my own business as opposed to been a wage slave. (Ive owned 2 others that I sold - both having been profitable)

So I was looking at a idea a while ago and it stuck in my mind - the more I looked at it the more I saw opportunities. Better than that its something I enjoy and am passionate about.

So at this point we are well into due diligence and we are fairly comfortable its all going to go ahead.

We think its a exciting opportunity, and while the time to go to market isn't now (the unit cost are high) - in 12 months I think there will be a chance to get a lot of units out the door.

Better still - its a model that I can sell regional rights once we have the core support infrastructure in place.

And - its something I can run in the evenings with my wife working during the day - so I dont have to give up a salary.

Pretty exciting times. Ill post what it is in a few weeks - when the ink is dry.

So - just a question - how many people here own their own business - and what fields are they in?

It would be nice to be able to support other KB businesses.

I have owned two businesses. So far neither of them have gone broke (fingers crossed). So I am not a wage slave and have not been for twenty odd years.

Instead I am a work slave. In the first business (seed raising) I worked seven days a week for eighteen years with ONE three week holiday in that time. BUT I did have staff to do the actual work. I just fielded the flack in the end. And I could be away for a few days at a time as long as I was accessible by phone...We closed it eventually because city alterations to roading made us inaccessible. We quit while we were ahead. We also made a bit of money on the sale of the land...

Current business is drug dealing (of a sort) - I push alcomohol...but high class stuff! Only the best you unnerstand...all joking aside, I have a wine shop. We sell wine, uncommon beers (Belgian, UK, NZ boutique brewery product) and we sell quite a lot of single malt whisky as well as other more regular spirits. I try to specialise and avoid the supermarket products so as to have a point of difference. This is more relaxed than growing seedlings - no weather worries, no spraying, etc etc. But I still work many hours - a lot of which get wasted on here!

Neither business made me rich but then I am a spendthrift and a wastrel anyway so what the hell...
