Hi all.
I have been talking with the marvelous Bruce at Taupo and he has offered a deal for people intending to race at the Actrix VMCC Winter Series Round 1, May 16th at Taupo. There are 35 places for those intending to race round 1, at the test day on Tues 12th May. It is $120 instead of $180 (which is the usual charge apparently). The extra bonus is that he has offered to store race-bikes and trailers in the pit garages, after the test day until the race day. We will get a 20 minute session per hour for the bikes, possibly more if not many cars turn up.
If you are interested contact me (Clive) via race@vicclub.co.nz . Places will go to the first 35, and 3 have already gone. Pay Bruce on the day and also organise garages for the day through him. He has asked that I do the booking.
Please, only book if you are definitely coming. If it is undersubscribed and there are spaces on the day for rock-ups, I will post on here on the 11th.

Hi Clive,
I have already booked to be there on the 12th, so I'm not sure if you will need to have me on your list.
See ya there.

Any news on the track surface??
I don't know whether the emulsion has been improved upon since I was there last but it didn't seem to cause any problems at PMCC round 3. I suspect that cold and/or wet conditions will require judgement and skill in equal parts.

I'm fortunate that I'm able to ride/test there on Friday 15th as part of a company customer day with Formula Challenge.
As part of that booking we've been keeping in touch with what's being done with the track surface.
I sat in on a telephone call with Bruce a few weeks back when the track problems were discussed. The 'patches' were due to be re-repaired at the end of April weather permitting as a number of fine days in row were needed to finish the work. The intention was that the new epoxy type product would have a substantial abrasive content that would solve the problems experienced to date.
Not sure if this has been completed but i know the Formula Challenge guys quite well and will find out for sure this coming week.

I will have room for the test day chick. You're more than welcome and that way I will find out about the best pie shops between here and Taupo.

Hmmph.....

I raced that day - there is a decent racing line but its only about a foot wide in a couple of places (which created a problem on the last corner of the last lap of the last race going around a lapped rider)
Hopefully people use their brains, but, being the first rnd of vmcc .... history may be against us!

Just got news from Taupo that they have decided to make this a BIKE ONLY test day, no limit on numbers. Here it is folks, an opportunity to get unlimited track time 4 days before round 1. I'm there with bells on.

So we can turn up and pay on the day with no booking then?

Yes, but please let me know if you are planning to be there. They are wanting to make sure they have staff to cope if we get a heap of bikes there. I know they have booked an ambo now.

Me show somebody fast lines?? Maate, I'm worried about the basics of reference points, vision, throttle control etc... But the only way to get this racing stuff sorted is to get out there and give it a bash eh:2thumbsup
My understanding is that it is still cool to garage the bikes until Saturday.

My last update was that they (circuit) had not completed the work due to the weather and lack of a weather 'window' to get it done.
From what I understand the product they are going to use needs a few days fine weather and non usage once laid.
I would guess that we'll all be on the track in its 'poor' state come saturday in the wet.

Looking at the various weather sites I'd say its 50/50 at the moment on the weather and if the one fronts arrival is a bit slow we could get a dry meeting.
Heres hoping but rain or shine I'm racing anyway so bring it on.

12th May 2009, 20:34
Yeah im guessing (and hoping for the same thing) hopefully it slows down bad track surface and wet equals a very slow day and keeps the ambo guys rather busy:bash:

Weather was mostly dry and cool today with about an hours worth of showers in the middle. Just enough to give everyone apart from Str8J a chance to practice wheel changes. I don't get on with the patches at all so Saturday is looking to be a slow one for me. If it is wet I'm not going anywhere near them and will be fitting trainer wheels. Taupo have talked about "coning off" the worst patches, but in the end we will have to ride to the conditions.

Yeah, what Clive said. Track was fucken slippery and those patches are horrible. Still, did what I had to do and broke in the piston. Once I did that i opened it up a bit after the track dried out and it was alot better. On yeah, its fucken cold in Taupo - bring lots of warm clothes!!

So in 6 weeks they've had no sun in Taupo................TUI anyone?
Funny that Manfeild were able to completely reseal 2 entire corners during last winter, not just patch.
Sorry Taupo not good enough IMO.

I don't think cones will help. The first rider through will stick out his knee and play skittles, while everyone behind falls off.:devil2:

Its good to see that Taupo is supporting the VMCC again like it did 2 years ago .
Pay us ya money and fugg off if ya want a real track to race on. We are here for cars . Maybe then i could believe anything i hear about a professional track preperation regime.
Bring it back home to Manfeild.

Sounds like fun!! haha kidding of course.
It's a shame Taupo motor-sport don't look after the track, it's a fun track, but the maintenance of it is nothing more than what you would call a joke, I mean epoxy to 'fix' a race track!!! I think i'd prefer the bumps!!
Maybe it is time to look at just having a manfeild only championship, as much as I like Taupo, they're not offering a good service, so don't pay for it. Go some where else.
