ok so I have done the search and come up with "should i glue my reg on", but heres my prob, was riding along jackson st and the police car behind me pulls me over, the officer comes up and says "I stopped you because your reg is covering part of the licence plate", any way after a quick discussion he says the best way to fix it is turn my holder around effectivly hiding it, when i pointed this out to him he said "we wouldnt worry about not seeing your reg. has anyone got there reg hidden? Do you have problems with the police pulling you up for it? & any ideas for a better place to mount it

Mine used to be sammitched between my l-plate and my WOF tag.
Recently relocated to the side of my chainguard, thanks to cyclespot, now WOF is only problem.
Been breath tested several times and randomly stopped without a hitch on both variants.

My Hyo - has that same mounting, but it is attached to the bottom of the plate.

My new bike has the rego on the reverse side of the plate. off to one side. The consensus is that the reg/wof must be displayed on the bike in such a manner as to be easily readable, without having to touch the bike in any way shape or form.

So looking at your picture, you could mount the holder vertically behind your plate on one side, and it would still be readable if when checked they were able to bend down and look behind the plate....:)

thanks guys! seems the general idea is that the cop was right, ill just take it of, turn it round and screw it back to the underside of the plate, just wanted to check, new to road bikes, and i know the cops dont like being able to see the reg on your cage

edit: no room under my seat, thats where i keep my L plate:Oops:

Or simply put it under your seat.

That does risk "failing to display" ... but if you dont ride that often ... :innocent:

Parking attendants cause more grief than those "Otago supporters" in their blue and gold signwritten cars. Two minutes after the HP pull you over, they know more about you, than you do.

Personally I don't see the point of having the need to display a rego or wofs in todays world of technologly the cops have already radioed in and know more about the bike than you do before they pull you over, if it is regoed and wofed reported stolen... running low on gas and you need more air in your rear tyre

However mine is behind the plate to the side on the guard and the wof is on the other side.

For many years (years ago) I use to keep them in my wallet... especally the WOF as said to mr plod, after 2 months out in all weather (back than I was out in all and riding all day too :) ) I could never read the wof as it always faded...and when my wallet I can read so I know when its due...

funny you should say that, my wofs behind the plate on the left side, covered in so much grease there's not a hope in hell of reading it

Yes it is an issue. I bought a holder with a longer bracket so it wouldn't obscure the number plate.

On my last bike I also kept it under the seat without any problems.

Yup, thats one of the reasons. Parking wardens can ticket a vehicle, car or bike, for failing to disply a wof or reg, if they can not easily see or read the sticker...... If your not there to lift your seat and show em, they might issue a ticket....

And there are people out there who are not so obliging, unlike your good self.....

I've got one of the long plastic holders, its bolted to the back of my number plate, at the top. This means its mostly hidden behind the plate, and back to back inside, are the wof and rego.

Yes, it gets covered in muck, and good luck reading it, but I'm not fussed. I can't get pinged for not displaying it as near the back as practicable, and it doesn't hide the plate or stick out. Tucked away nicely, without being hidden out of sight.

the stupid thing is, as you can see from the photo, I dont think it gides enough of the plate to worry about

The cop might tho... and thats the important part.

Unless you like getting pulled over? Perhaps hoping for a hot female one? :woohoo:

As long as you bike looks smart and tidy, no one will bother you. If parking wardens have some issue with it, just write in and bullshit them with some story and ignore them.. let them crash and bang around in the legal system by themselves for a few months and use up all their spare change fighting a non-fight. shrug.

You should be mounting it to the side of your rear fender. Real easy to see.

Warrant gets stuck to the back of the number plate.

Police are quite often reasonable....
Council jobworths however are not....
Put wof and reg Anywhere on your bike where it is visible....
or don't park in public places....

i put mine in the rear storage area had it behind the plate but by the time the 2smoker is up to temp to ride the wof and reg are unreadable :sweatdrop

Mine is just below the steering head on the down-tubes - can be seen from the front (not easily either) and not the rear, never had any problems.

Bike shop cpuldn't find anywhere to fix it thus it's been in the "glovebox" ever since. They said it's not likely to be a problem and hasn't been to date.As Nighthawk says they generally know more about your bike than you do based on the rego plate. Big brother is watching!

mate of mine got a $400 dollar ticker form some f**king dropkick parking warden cos he had both wof an rego under the seat, took the seat into the council building (or wherever u sposed to go to pay these things) and they let him off.

I don't see the point in having to display the WOF or rego, all it takes is a QVR and then the constabulary will know if it's legal or not.

My rego and wof on the Harley are mounted by the horn. To date its never been a problem even parking in Dunedin. On the GN250 they are both mounted to brackets on the licence plate (afterall, its a GN so it don't matter).

Best advice is talk to your local council and find out in writing where they want it mounted and keep a copy of that under your seat. that way you've got an excuse if the cops or wardens don't agree.
