Not a real biker

Well it's that time of the year when the temperature drops a couple of degrees and the leaves fall from the trees. It is considerably wetter and I think about suspending my bike insurance and registration and start using the car for short journeys.

Well I do ride a motorbike for three hours a day for work, so it is not a complete winter cop out. It is just something I think I should do every year.

BUT I never have done this and probably wont this year either. I do however use the car more on particularly slippery days and was wondering if others consider doing the same?

Lately I have been using the car more, but that's mainly because my old back tyre was pretty close to bald, so even a slightly wet day became a very "slippery" day. Fixed that on Friday, so I'll be back on the bike from now on...

I also sometimes drive when I am really tired. Figure it requires less concentration. ;)

The trip to work is getting so short it's almost not worth taking the bike.
Car is just much easier to drive in my barely awake state. ;)

Weird? I ride the bike to work to make sure I arrive at work wide awake, if I drive to work at 5:30am I tend to be quite drowsy by the time I'm half way there.:yawn:

I agree with this. If I am quite drowsey, getting on a bike awakes me instantly and forces me to concentrate. A drowsey car drive can allow you to fall asleep at the lights.

I get the wife to drop me at work if i've been drinkin the night before... well enough to have a hangover or enough to realise that i'm still unbelievably shitfaced... Other than that thumbing the starter wakes me instantly...

Hell no! In Auckland the traffic is bad enough at the best of times, when it is wet I can't stand trying to drive a car anywhere!

All I do in the wet is ride a little slower, brake earlier, accelerate more gently and corner a little slower. And wear wet weather gear, obviously.

Amen to that!!! Aucklanders magically forget how to drive and panic when the wetness comes from the sky! The traffic becomes way worse.

I ride perfectly in the rain. :innocent:
I just carefully ride past the several km long columns of parked cars on the motorway through to my destination. Then I praise the gods that I am not commuting by car on this glorious day!

The worse the gridlock the gladder (note: may not be a real word) I am to be on a bike and generally the gridlock is at its worst in the wet, more often than not helped by a nose to tail somewhere ahead.
The people in cars not happy at taking more than an hour to travel somewhere that should be less than 10 minutes away? Not my fucking problem!

Rain hail or shine I ride to work everday ,unless I have to pick up motorcycle parts which are to big to fit in my backpack, just starting my xr in the morning makes getting out of bed worthwhile.
