View Full Version : Setting suspension clickers and oil ratios?

Can anyone give me a rough idea on where the suspension clickers should be set front and rear on my yz? 75kg rider. The guy i bought it off was quite small and just rode at woodhill, so he softened the front and rear as much as they can go. I will get them re-valved some stage soon, but for now stock suspension is going to have to do
Also, the guy had no idea what oil ratios he ran in it, as his brother did all the work and he just rode it... Ran 40:1, with 95 pump gas in it this weekend, seemed fine, but is that to lean, or too low quality gas (couldnt hear any detonation)
Cheers

Id try to get the factory settings as a base piont maybe ring a dealer
And I'd say 40:1 with a good quality oil should be ok

The book might say 33:1 but we all generally run at 40:1. Just check your plug/jetting after a hot run shutdown! There has been a few good threads recently on jetting and how on here recently. actually I have some plug reading info Danger posted saved somewhere if you pm me your Email. Otherwise one particular thread goes into it quite a lot. Me, Danger and a few others had quite a discussion on different theories. Do a search you should find some good info.

cheers man ill pm you in a sec. its running a BR8EG which is a little weird as everyone seems to run an ES... might be due to the FMF SST and Powercore and aftermarket reeds or something?

my mates yammi runs a B7ES which is a realy hot plug. my ORANGE bike runs the same, but i think it needs a colder plug as it gets pretty hot, specialy in the sand.

Br8 is what my Cr250 ran. One of my Ktm 200's has a br8 The other a colder Br9 so your close. I'd go with the BR8 the Eg and Es refers to a resistor or non resistor plug I think give me a minute I'll see if I have the page where I read it. You should run the resistor one as you have an electronic ignition!

so i should be running the br8es? any harm in running it with the one i have as will be a couple days before i get into the shop?

oops i ment to say mine runs a BR7ES
BR#ES is a $5 plug, a BR#EG is an old name for the iridium plug, now their called BR#EIX which is about $25, the iridium ones have a tapered tip, the ES ones have a flat tip. the itidium ones are easier to foul but work slightly better, so unless your jetting is spot on i wouldnt recommend the EIX
i run 9s and dont have many problems, JT borrowed one of my BR9ES' at the JR for his CR250 and as far as i know it was fine all day?

No harm I was wrong the R means its resistor so all good!! The EG is a Fine wire Nickel alloy center electrode and the ES is a standard center electode. One is less prone to fouling although I have run both with no problems. you can buy a $20-00 Iridium EIX which has the super flash electode in but that one is fine!
Have a look at the chart attached it tells the whole story!!

B = 14mm thread diameter
R = Resistor Type
8 = heat range
E = 19mm thread reach
then one of:
S = Standard 2.5mm centre electrode
G = Fine wire nickel alloy centre electrode
IX = High performance iridium
The G cost me $13; half way from S to IX perhaps? IIRC the G (KTM's spec for my 200EXC) is worth buying; most likely got that idea from ktmtalk.
(Ah, snap! reckless types faster than me!)
(and his pdf is the same but 10x smaller)
[QUOTE=warewolf;1129199231]Not sure that's correct[QUOTE]
thats what counties honda told me when i went to replace my BR9G, they said that the G is a race plug and that they dont make them anymore, theyve been replaced by the iridium EIX ones?
did you get a G recently?

The top fun Site lists all there ES, EG @ $7 bucks and EIX @ $30 bucks,

BNT would be cheaper for plugs I'm thinking
And castrol tts is the cheapest fully synth 2-troke oil, espcially when super cheap or repco do a sale. Seemed like a good oil too.

Yours must be a later one Mine doesn't have EIX listed.
Use the one Wharewolf put forward!!!

was about $6 from counties honda for the ES, the same from repco was $7 i think, but we have a white card and know one of the guys who work there, get them for $5 bucks each :woohoo:
havent been to BNT for plugs, might have to have a look one day

did you get a G recently?Yeah the G series were sold as the "race" series in a red box, IIRC. Been a while since I bought one, but I see plenty of the red boxes sitting on parts shelves in bike & car parts shops. Google can't find any news of that on ktmtalk.com, and I'd expect lots of questions on there if the recommended G ceased production - especially if the replacement cost twice as much, people would moan and challenge it.
Sorry, but I have serious doubts it's true. But you never know, NZ is a small market so may be the first to run out of stock or be forced to jump to the more expensive product (heck we may even be a test market; if we swallow it, they might cut off the USA and ROW next? wouldn't be the first time.)
Yours skeptically,
etc :yes:
Yours must be a later one Mine doesn't have EIX listed. My link is direct to the NGK web site. Let's hope they don't change the url if they update the page or re-organise the site. Looks like there's plenty of copies of your version stored around the place, just found heaps of links & embeds of it on ktmtalk!

I printed it as a PDf and saved it so if you ever need another one just drop me a line.

Crown Kiwi Technical ( seperate to Crown Kiwi Enterprises ) is open to the public, dealing predominantly with suspension for MX, road, road race and race car. We will also do some bike repairs.
