Just saw this on Stuff and it made my blood boil - some little shits appear to have cut off kittens' paws - and the rest of the story doesn't make for pleasant reading either - http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/2380558/Kittens-face-surgery-after-paws-hacked-off
What the fuck is the world coming to when kids think this behaviour is acceptable - and their parents need a reality check too.
Currently I'm sitting by the fire with two of my three cats asleep on bean bags. Anybody tries to harm them and they will have ME to deal with!
Saw that in the Sunday Star Times. Banned Miss Mully from reading it.
I hope those parents are charged when their kids start killing people.
Avoided reading this thread awhile but finally gave in and had a look:argh:What can i say eh,what mis-fortune will some innocent party suffer at the hands of these fuck ups in years to come, makes you sick, whats worse is theres a fucking industry built around protecting the rights of sub humans like this.

And animals are just the start........ Can't handle reading stuff like this, people are just so cruel. They deserve decent homes and to be loved just as much as any person does.

That is pretty damn fucked up!
...but compared to how some people and animals live elsewhere it's not really that bad. In many other places the kittens would just have been put down.
But yes, there are some people that could benefit from being taught a hard lesson or two on the subjects of humanity and ethics.

Totally not clicking on that article. :sunny:
I don't know what I'd do if I caught someone halfway through an act like that...
But if they were, oh I dunno, cutting off a kittens paws... I might have to hack off their little mitts, too, awwww

I'm almost seething with rage after reading that. :angry2: Those rotten little bastards. My cat is an inside cat and I'm now all of a sudden very thankful for that fact.
Fucked up.
Kids pulling dog balls, cutting arms and legs, lighting caged animals on fire etc...
What's on TV these days?

It really is disgusting how people would back the very thing that slow down our advancement and well being. :argh:

I wonder what sort of hatred has to be poured into a person for them to even contemplate doing that to a small helpless loveable creature.
They must have had some similarly heinous acts performed on them.
Sadly those people are probably irreparably damaged. Locking them up is the only way to keep others safe.

Still doesn't excuse this kind of behaviour - and I sincerely doubt any of the little fuckers who did this have ever had someone try and cut off their hands with a pair of scissors or similar. Shame though, they may have bled to death before help arrived.
Locking them up isn't the answer - castrating them and their whole family may go some way towards preventing this happening again. Or just line them up and shoot them works for me too.

I personally maintain that violent video and (more especially) violent video games play a part in desensitising kids to this kind of stuff, so actions in the real world simply become an extension of what they did on screen.
If they ever find out who they are Im suggest the courts order the kids to pay for the kittens' immediate medical and ongoing care. Sell the kids' ipods, phones, xboxes, CDs etc.
It's totally inexcusable behaviour.

Ya reckon? It never did me any harm. Well, much harm. Apart from the obvious.
Maybe if they are playing the really violent stuff really young, that would desensitise 'em.
Still comes down to the parents letting em play them, I suppose.

Yup (http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENNZ318&ei=nXH_ScnOIpfqtQPgq5T7BQ&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&q=army+training+video+desensitization&spell=1) - but I hasten to add it's only a part of it. How big or small I don't know.

Law or no law, if I had a kid that I found doing something like that to an animal (or another kid) they'd be getting a bloody good hiding, and if I went to jail for doing that, then so be it, I deserve that for not teaching my kids that you don't treat other living things that way. Fuckers!
Yup - but I hasten to add it's only a part of it. How big or small I don't know.
But then you get into a Nature/Nurture debate.
Could be that the parents that let their children play restricted games are the kind of parents who aren't providing an ideal structure for raising kids to not be psychopaths anyway.

If the army's willing to invest millions into desensitising their soldier that way - I'm willing accept it. It's a demonstrable phenominon.
And yes to your point about the parents. I was going to add to my original response it's about respect. I'll gladly take kids shooting with me to teach them about respect for animals. Yes it's about to die, yes I'm about to kill it... but first and foremost I respect it. If you don't have a damned good answer to the question "Why am I trying to kill this" ... then you don't.
If it's only the challenge - shoot targets.
If it's about proving how good at stalking you are - shoot photos.

Yes, because even if someone does dob them in, there is no way that our current justice system will go even a small way towards making them pay for their actions.
The other half said he just hopes that they try doing this to one of their siblings later or that someone does it to them. I can't even begin to imagine the pain and bewilderment that those kittens went through while this was being done to them. Unforgiveable under ANY circumstances.

Would a fitting punishment be cutting off their left thumb (something unique to humans... they don't qualify as human beings and so don't deserve them) and tattooing "I have no thumb because I cut off a kitten's foot" on their forearm?
Just my thoughts.

No - I speed on ocassion because I enjoy the adrenalin rush. What's your point?
(no really - I got your point... I suspect you're wildly off target and wrong... but I got it. I suspect you're trying to largely or wholly attribute the behaviour to the gaming world in an attempt to have the point look silly enough that it rebuts itself... sadly for you that's not what I said.)

The point is silly.
Murder/torture is hardly new to the world. It's not a concept that has solely come around with the advent of violent video games.
Duke Nukem did not cause the Crusades. Nor the murderous games in the Coliseum in Rome.
Neither of the World Wars were not because someone decided to re-create Call of Duty or Medal of Honour.
Ghenghiz Khan didn't rampage across Asia and Europe because someone teamkilled him for a helicopter.
Video games have no more effect than violence on the news, in movies, even in music. It's hardly a causative factor.
People have been sick fuckers for centuries. This is hardly a new phenomenon.

I have volunteered t the SPCA for quite some time, and I have been fortunate enough to have not seen animals who have sufffered to this degree. It makes me fuckin sick to see this shit, and it makes me want to get a crew and go and exert some vigilante justice on these sick minded arseholes.:argh::argh::argh::angry2:

Agreed - that was part of my original point.
The rest of my point was the repercussions of interactive violence via games on some people with a predisposition to violence.

Don't forget the violent children's TV shows then in your crusade.
I exploded a cliff on top of a busload of nuns yesterday, because I recall Wil E. Coyote doing a similar thing during my youth.

Woman admits stabbing abusive partner
Tuesday, 5, May, 2009 2:51PM
A 46-year-old Tauranga woman has admitted stabbing her abusive partner, but says she feared for her own safety.
Amelia Sarsfield appeared in the Tauranga District Court today over the incident, which occured in November last year.
Sarsfield say when the man approached her in a drunken rage, she stabbed him in the chest with a short bladed knife.
Judge Peter Rollo said Sarsfield would normally face imprisonment for such an offence, but in the circumstances six months home detention would be appropriate. He also sentenced her to 250 hours community work, or job training.

So you're saying playing video violent games has no effect or even better, a beneficial effect on behaviour?
PirateJafa
6th May 2009, 10:06
I'm saying that I don't believe there is a causative link between them.
If there is ANYTHING that actively encourages this sort of behaviour, it would be the lackadaisical sentences usually handed out by the courts. 'Cuz you know, they're just kids.
They know they can get away with this shit, so they have no disincentive not to.
THAT should be the focus of you/society before you try and take the easy way out with a scapegoat.
