Saturday evening and i get the call from Al to say our mate Glen has had a bit of an incident while out on his bike !
Stuck in Opotiki with a wrecked ankle, (he only has one so i don't ask which one lol) Opotiki ? Jesus, why didn't he just go do it in whangarei for the hell of it i think haha
Ok, No further details as to what happened, apart from the fact that he was parked up at petes, with his leg up waiting for us, so i told Al i'd see him at 8 am and we'd do a mission in the van to recover him and his bike !
The drive up on the sunday was uneventfull, took us, i don't know 6 or 7 hours i spose !
I lost track of time after Taupo when i jumped out of the drivers seat and into the local super liquor !
Arrive at Petes place with a nice wee glow on and damn pleased to be out of the van i can tell ya !

First thing i see is the Electriglide in the carport and it looks ok, no obvious damage, look it over closer and nope, no damage at all, so yeah i start scratching the head as i walk up and bash the door in !
Bwahahahaha talk about opportune moment to bust in hehehehe (another story)

Well there he is, lord banana parked up on a dining room chair his one and only ankle up on another chair, looking three times the size of one of mine (he's a big fella, but not that big, must be bandaged i think lol) "Ya all good" i ask and laugh (personal joke of ours, cause he's always giving Al grief for the amount of pill bottles he carries around with him when we go away for a ride and me for forever russling around in the bag checking out what i might need for the day, where he says "yeah, nah, i'm ok, i'm all good !") then i drop Al's medicine bag on the table in front of him with a box of piss ! Well that set the mood for the evening !

Pete's the Man for the home brew whiskey, so it wasn't long before the 90 proof hit the table along with a bottle of his finest 45 and he was fishing around in his freezer for the venison steaks and snapper fillets ! Almost makes the 7 hour trip worthwhile just for the feed that comes out haha !

Turns out it was an "act of god" that did glen "in" on his trip up, haha He didn't fall off or anything stupid, ok it was prolly his own fault but damn bad luck !
He's made a pit stop at one of the lakes north of Rotorua (can't blame him, as they are pristeen) Put the side stand out (has an extension on it as it's his left leg thats chopped off at the knee) hopped off (scuse the pun) and was standing at the right rear of the bike, enjoying the view while taking his helmet off, when it rolled back and toppled to the right taking him out with it !
Now i have no idea what that bike wieghs, apart from the fact it's heavy lol, but it pinned him flat on his face with the ankle facing in all the wrong angles ! Think i mentioned he was a big fella haha so he had trouble spinning himself the right way up and decided he wasn't gonna lay there waiting for someone to find him like that and wrenched his leg out from under the bike !
Knew he'd done some damage as he couldn't put weight on it and needed help to get the glide up (can normally get it off the ground) and rode off knowing he wasn't gonna be able to stop for the rest of his journey and had been parked up inside since thursday !
Lol so much for the 3 days of fishing they were spose to be doing !

Well of course i wasn't feeling too sharp at 8.30 when i rolled out of the van ! Though the new airbed and portable 2 piece base i'd set up for camping at the track, worked brilliantly !
Wandered in the house where pete and glen were sipping on a coffee and asked where the hell was Al with the bacon and eggs he'd promised to cook us for breaky hahaha off to go shake the caravan and get his arse out of bed !
He refuses to bloody eat when he's had a couple of beers so of course he was a blithering drunken mess when i left him nodding at the table with the boys ! So sharp is not a term i'd decribe him as, when he finally staggered out of the caravan lol !
Well i eventually got my bloody eggs cooked for me, so off out to the deck for a coffee and smoke and wait for the enivitable abolution to work its way out hahaha !
Well Al had dissapeared out to the van (to put his collection of blankets away i had thought) and returned with a puzzled look on his face "Im not sure we'll get the bike in the van without taking the screen off he says" haha well glen looked at me and i think his next comment described the moment beautifully !

"Do you really think he would spend 7 hours trapped in the van with you Al, then spend the night listening to your drunken ramblings, only to want to do it all over again ? No, i think you will find he has his riding gear in one of them fish bins in the van !"

Kin'outh i do lol ! Few Quick checks over the bike and i was dossing the gear on and after a couple of "ya all good" and "yer I'm good"s I was doing the electriglide waggle down the highway !
Only took me a few k's to come to terms with the way the bike pivots the way it does haha and eventually i came to enjoy it, i mean it did break the monotony in some parts lol !
They sure aint no speed machine and being a 92 it prolly aint had no bushes done so mehhh live with it !
The sun was shining and the roads up north of Rotorua are bloody brilliant ! It must have been a good ten yrs since i been up that way and i was having a ball !
Had to make the first stop at lake Rotowiti for a smoke and a V drink lol
One thing ya can say about a hangover is ya know the day can only get better !!!
Two gas stops and 3 smoke stops and i'm thinking them two in the van have got to be catching me soon ! Was thinking if i time it right i'll only just be ahead when we get home so i can take the bike straight to Glens and lock it up there, save doing it in the morning as planned !
But no, boom ended up needing a nanna nap on the desert road lol and as Glen couldn't feel his foot (which wasn't bandaged by the way lol wicked swelling) let alone drive, he had to suck it up and watch him sleep bwahahahaha !
Well i made it home 40 min ahead of them so had me a bit of a wait but was feeling surprisingly fresh and Joda (glens boy) made me a coffee so all was well !
Thoroughly enjoyed the ride ! Bloody comfortable bike, throttle is a bit stiff, like the cruise controll screw is broken in there but hey Glen must like it that way ! Got a bit cool going through the desert road, but expected that !
If it was mine i'd do away with the screen as it is gettin on and hard to see through (but then it aint mine and glen is a tad taller so can see just over the top lol) ended up riding visor up, cause the bloody thing kept fogging, but a pair of shades kept the dust out me eyes and i was comfortable !
Bike sits on 100 120 k all day and loves it ! Needs a tick tack toe game or something similar on the tank so ya got sommit to do while ya riding though hahaha
I'd own one ! Not an electiglide perhaps but another big block !

Only thing is, i forgot to thank pete for his hospitallity !
Damnit i'll have to go back !
