Hi everyone. Please read the letter below, sent to me by Lynda Blair. We are organising a riders reunion at the Taupo Road Race Spectacular, December 27th & 28th.

Hi there - Lynda Blair of Wellington here.

Some of you may remember me from the early - mid 1980’s as Secretary of the Victoria Motorcycle Club. Others may remember me either from those times or later times as an enthusiastic motorcyclist, road race follower and latterly Secretary of the Ducati Owners Club of NZ.

As you may or may not be aware, in the period between Christmas and New Year, Andy Scrivener and Chris Lawrance run a highly successful race meeting, the Taupo Road Race Spectacular - see www.roadracespectacular.4t.com

This year it’s being held on the 27th and 28th December.

I would like to organise a low-key reunion of us “oldies” from the old days of racing in conjunction with this event. I vividly recall during (more or less) recent times the 50th Anniversary of Cemetery Circuit, and both the 25th and 35th Anniversaries of the Victoria Club. They were great events and the main reason for us enjoying them so much was catching up with those we hadn’t seen for a long time, and reliving the memories.

I would like to be the conduit for having another such get-together happening again.

I don’t envisage limiting this event to any particular years of racing, or indeed to any particular people at all - it is for both racers and those of us who enthusiastically have followed the sport over the years.

I have booked out a reasonable motel in Taupo to ensure there’s some accommodation available (Taupo gets very full at this time of year). Taupo will be a very good base for families if they would prefer to not come along to the track.

I will need to keep tabs on numbers, so if you would be keen to join us on the 27th and 28th December for some good company, a bit of food, a bit of drink and some telling of lies about how good we used to be, please email me on secretary@docnz.co.nz to register.

We will firm up exactly how the days will run over the next couple of months, but roughly we envisage a special area for those who have registered for the event to watch the racing over the two days, perhaps but not necessarily with some light food provided, and a get-together on the evening of the 27th over a complementary BBQ meal, with drinks also supplied. Those who are competing at the race meeting will also be attending the meal.

At this stage we’re hoping to not charge any $$ but it may be as plans develop that we do need to charge a small fee to cover costs.

Once you’ve registered with me, I’ll keep you updated as plans develop.

If you would be keen to have it publicised that you intend being there, please advise me. That way it might spur more to join in the fun!

And please feel free to forward this email to anyone else who you think would enjoy being part of this event.

Cheers

Lynda Blair

Long time motorcycle and racing enthusiast

Well, I've just gotten off the phone. Phew!!! I can now confirm that Australian Superbike legend (and a real hardcase character) Robbie Phillis is confirmed for the riders re-union and also the B.A.D.D. 3 Hour Endurance race.

This is going to be a not to be missed event!!

This just gets better and better!! :wari::Punk::not:

Why not offer the old buggers a couple of laps demonstration pootle around the track at lunchtime? Be good for photographs and sponsors alike.

Thought about that, but didn't want them to show up the newbies..... :shifty:
Besides, we just simply don't have enough time to do it in the program.
