Hi guys,
obviously I am new. Have done an introduction at the new member thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=98692), but wanted to come say hello here as I'm into offroad and dual sport.
Coming to visit NZ roundabout November and will be looking to buy a little bike to mess around with (even if it's just a little Postie).
Any advise on trips to ride while I'm there will be appreciated.

I like riding where ever I pretty much can. I like doing long trips and just messing around on trails. I'm no pro, but I will be trying some of the fun enduro's that are coming up in my area.
here are some shots of my old BM and my current DR

Welcome mate,
while NZ doesn't have the vast expanses and distances you might be used to, it does have a lot of well kept secrets. There are many rides in each region of NZ so a good idea would be to identify riders in the areas you intend visiting and see if you can meet up or get info from them.
Here's where I'm from (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=91071&highlight=blenheim+adv) for when you pass through the top of the South Island. Look forward to meeting you.

RVAqualine 28liter Safari tank. Probably overkill for NZ, but they make a nice 17liter that also covers the radiator, unlike the clarke model.

Wecome mate!
The NZ Motorcycle Atlas is a good guide to lots of the nice road & gravel routes in NZ, grab a copy of that. For the dirtier stuff have a look at silverbullet.co.nz for organised trail rides, most weekends there is something on.
Keep an eye on this forum when you get to NZ, there's usually a weekend adv ride being organised somewhere every few weeks & all are welcome
Cheers

and.....
Andy Cockroft's "4wd North Island" book - 102 offroad tracks with maps, directions etc.
Not sure he's done a South Island one tho - or is there an equivalent for SI rides by a different author?

There's two volumes for each island now.
Good to know! Cheers!
Edit: just looked 'em up: Ken Sibly & Mark Wilson are the joint authors of the South Island volumes.
Cheers for the heads up Colin! Damn yet more expense to budget for - grrrrrr!

In addition to what Clint said; as well as all-weekend rides every few weeks, there's adv day rides on a Saturday OR Sunday pretty much most weekends! We're a keen bunch on both islands!!!!
You'll have lots of fun and meet lots of great people!

Kia ora Newguy.
You'll love it over here. You're lucky to have such varied riding where you are.
I'm so pissed off my brother moved back to NZ after 30 years living in Durban just when I was getting into Adv riding. Africa is one place I'd really love to ride.
Check out Ryans (http://www.advroutes.org.nz/) website otherwise let us know when your heading to a particular region.
cheers
