Once again, Honda are making life difficult for themselves.
They're fluffing around hiding concepts and sketches of what the new VFR1000 will look like.
What's wrong guys? Afraid it's going to look something like these (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=128573&stc=1&d=1241570216) two monstrosities (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=128574&stc=1&d=1241570216)?
Well never fear.
I have gone to the effort of doing all your market study, research and design for you. For no financial benefit of my own, I stress.
So when you start producing these babies next year can you put me at the top of the list? I'll call it a laptop and put it on my student loan somehow. Course related costs I suppose - gotta get to uni somehow.
Stop pissing around with the dreary IL4 trash you've made over the last few years.
We want our real bikes back. :niceone:

V4's are so, like 1980's man. :calm:
Actually I am surprised there are not more V4 bikes - possibly the engine costs are a lot more than the good old IL4?
VFR 1000 NAKED - now that would interest me.
I suspect HD may produce a V4 sometime soonish. They could easily do a sport version under the MV banner and a grunter under the HD label.

Yes.
Honda did get the RC30 and NC30 very, very right.
The first pic has some OK aspects, but is too much VFR800xFirebladexDN01:crazy:.
Do something new and styish Mr Honda, but FFS give us our VFR thou already!
(I need something to lust after for when I find a real job )

what about the RVF?! that was going well into the late 90's
and have you looked at the new R1 motor? it is basically is a V4 crank in an inline package - funnily enough it's knocked the 'blade from the top spot and reviewers can't get enough of the apparently awesome sound it makes:rofl:
probably an idea they've had tucked away for ages too, just waiting for the right time to release it.
I don't think Mr Honda knows which way is up, at the present.
There has been whispers of the thou' Viffer for a while and I still wait and will only believe it when my arse is placed upon its seat.

Wise approach. Half the world was anxiously awaiting the much rumoured V5 to no avail.
BIKE says that Honda have confirmed a new V Four but I guess I'll believe that when I see it.
For the poster that wanted a naked V Four - Aprilia may soon have just that very thing...

if they wrap up the corpse of Soichiro Honda in copper wire and put magnets around his coffin, they could power all of their factories with the electricity from him spinning in his grave

I think Soichiro would be quite into that. Everybody's heard his early rantings (http://world.honda.com/history/limitlessdreams/qualityproducts/text/01.html) about two strokes -- noisy, high pitched, blow smoke, the person lying next to you in bed would never let you buy it... So he built a 50cc four stroke instead. Easy to start, quiet, reliable, nice power delivery.
The electric motor is even further down that path. I think Mr Honda would be quite keen on an electric bike.

We've got the CB1000R.. Now we just need to swap out the engine for a v4 and call it the VB1000R.

Yes that's pretty much one of the first things I thought when I heard and saw the new R1. Still, not quite the same thing as a proper V4. And ditch the VTEC too...

They dont even make a sports V(firestorms are NOT a sport bike) anymore.

That's cool - I like the way you put that - but what if you did it the other way round. Like if you wrap Soichiro in the magnets and put the coils on the outside, well you wouldn't need slip rings then. It's much more reliable, more hondalike don't you think?

You've really got no idea at all have you? but thanks for playing.
Firestorms are a V-twin, not a V-4.
the RC211V was a V5 correct, at 990ccc. With the introduction of the 800cc limit it "lost" a cylinder and became an 800cc V4 the RC212V. That is simplistic thinking at its most basic. I very much doubt there would be ANY part interchangeability or anything except the most basic architectural similarity. It is prototype racing after all.
Oh and I for one would definitely like a "beefed up" NC30. They're called RC30's and if you have one, I will buy it from you for $5000 cash money right now. or an RC45.

$5,000? Hah you've got no idea. My NC30 is worth more than that. Try $30k for an RC30 - which is something I'll be saving for when I leave uni. :niceone: (RC45 is nice too, but I do love the look of the RC30 more!)

I am well aware of the values of RC30's RC45's, RC51's and the like. I was trying to make a point. Even NC30's (I own two of the blummin things after all)

*girlish squeal*
who wants to loan me 500 for "R&D"
I promise, given i have a source of income this summer, to have it fuel injected by march, and offer the donor the FI system at cost, with return of the bike if desired
i'm dead serious. For a while now i've been planning to FI my V4 but also commuting on the V4 made this difficult, plus lack of cash to buy the required parts. was going to completely remake the induction AND ignition system - just needed a test bench (motor) and a reasonable source of income (ie a job) to get keep the ball rolling. I'm 5/8 the way through a mechatronics engineering degree and have access to most the university labs ;)
also, i have the required fairings/tank etc to get that thing back on the track and maybe even the road
though if it has the fugly nc24 rear wheel and swingarm........

Apparently  in the next MCn (due out tomorrow, I think), they are going to be showing REAL pictures of the new VFR, to be released in the last quarter of this year.
Sounds very "Tui moment" ish to me....
I don't really care much any more. They're bound to make it some mental eco-friendly abortion that drops some cylinders while cruising, like the V6 Honda Accord, and which has an automatic gearbox like that silly DN-01, and a pricetag like that two-wheeled Couch-o-wing.
I'm going to continue on fixing my VFR up. I've ordered the fork parts, and booked some time with Dr Taylor. After that, all that's left is a new seat from Dr McDonald, and some new makeup from wherever....
Then it's time to rack up another 85,000 km.

Oh you're a cheerful person to be around! ;)
I'm still holding out hopes for the RC30FI. Else I'll have to start kidnapping Honda employee's children and so forth, and I really don't have the time for that at the moment.

vifferman was right
That’s it’s variable-cylinder engine, which enables the rear bank of cylinders to shut down completely, leaving the bike effectively a parallel twin on light loads, which should dramatically boost fuel economy and emissions performance.
if they want fuel efficiency why not just make a SMALLER bike, and then fit a supercharger or turbo for when moar power is required

Quite probably, and likely they are intended to disguise it a mite.
And for those who say it's a BMW (it looks very like one), the technicians were Japanese, there were boxes of Honda parts in the truck, the brakes on the model are Nissin (BMW use Brembo), the rear wheel's very similar to that from the DN-01, and there are some other parts (mirrors, windshield, rear tail parts) off or very similar to existing Honda models.

Quite so. The arse end looks very similar, but the patch-up job of where the pipes used to sit, looks rather poorly done.
I wonder if the new rear wheel hub has been increased to counter balance the flugelhorn exhaust?
