Hey, I've got an old 1983 cbx250rs - It's done this the whole 6 months I"ve had it but whenever I use the choke, even the tiniest bit, the revs go a fraction up, then the revs drop and the bike stalls. Even applying the throttle while using the choke will cause the bike to stall (haven't tried this with revs over about 3.5k)......why would it be doing this? Is the mix to rich or something?

Just asking as at the moment when the bike's cold it's a perfect balance of throttle when starting the engine to get it going :-)

Have a look at the plugs; they'll show you if it's running rich or not.

What's your air filter like? No restrictions in the intake, like seat foam getting sucked into the airbox (yes, I've seen it happen!) Sounds like it's already running rich and when you apply the choke it floods.....but I'm only guessing... :)

Hahaha yeah I don't use the choke - it's just a mish getting it started in the mornings. uhh...i've got the service manual but the pictures are pretty crap - I should juts ahve to take the seat off to get to the spark plug yeh?

The air filter - hopefully gonna replace it tomorrow...the retarded service people at wild west honda didn't even replace that with the silver service!!

Yeah I know, I've learnt my lesson :-) They were useless...probably hence why they've gone out of business...Might try the motorcycle doctor next time. how often you get your bike serviced? I can do basic stuff like changing the oil/oil filter, chain maintenance...

I highly recommend George from motorcycle doctors for the next time you want some work done.. knows his stuff and doesn't charge the earth like a dealership.

Have a little lookse at your choke cable make sure choke isnt already on -too much tension on cable. also check air filter is clean.

air filter is not clean, choke cable is fine - went to cycletreads on friday - they couldn't find what air filter would go in it...try econohonda?

Yeah I intend to use george next time - how often would you recommend getting a service? every 6000km?or 11000?
