Auckland ride Tuesday 15th [Archive]

Anyone up for a ride tomorrow Tuesday? Not too far, not too short. Ex Auckland. Practice some wheelies, stoppies etc too. Whatever, I've got the time at the mo so might as well make the most of it.

How interesting, this is developing into a 2 part ride for me. One during the day the other a doss thing after working hours.
Firefight and riff raff, how about this afternoon early say 1pm and we can go for a blat my recommnedation is to meet at the Petrol station at Westgate just before the roundabout, from there we can work out a number of options. This earlier ride is cancelled due to lack of interest

For the doss/wheelie/camera thing I would suggest the same meeting place at say 6pm sharp (cos is getting darker earlier.) From there can find some easy straights, quiet too and doss about. Please bring cameras and whatever you have with you.

I have been for a recce and 1st pircture is of the road I have used many times and is still the best form the point of view of not much traffic, straight, good surface, long enough and very few houses nearby. The second picture is of a sealed lane no exit I found which is only about 200mtr long, but totally private, so could be a place to start off practicing for beginners, though is a little short for long wheelies and repetition stuff etc.

I have a back tyre to waste*..

I've remembered a pretty good straight if it's just practice you're up for. It's a 'service' road to a quarry, so it'll be dead outside of work hours. About half a k or so straight. Get a couple in, turn around, have another go.. somewhere near the big mount welly, but forget exactly where..

else don't mind..

*but I'm not going to be silly, so don't ask

I can't do stoppies, wheelies etc, hell I can even ride, but keen to watch others show off. :niceone:

Ah Rhys I was wondering where you'd been.

Bugjuice can do the after work thing in Mt Welly, but I reckon the roads up where we did the videoing around Kumeu are as close and have longer straights. Can meet up if you want and do that.

Anyone want to have a ride during the day??

hey, scooterboynz, have a look at my profile, little pic of me bubba... Swanny has mentioned you a few times, so I'd be keen to catch up anyway, swap kawa stories etc... Hope you can make it.

I also have my bro's camcorder (to catch that bin - bagsynotme) and I have a digital camera too, so can bring both and 2 peeps can have a go.

One thing I'm more keen for is a spot where it's a 'closed' type of road, or a dead end etc.. If we're going to be up and down, then at least keep it away from the public... I'll have a look over the maps, and if anyone knows of a place.. Might be a case of picking a spot to initially meet up, then head off to where we'll end up for a bit.

Plus, Swanny, we going to make it a 'ride' or more of a doss around? Just want to make it clear so that people know what they're turning up for.. I don't care either way, as long as I have me crotch rocket.. :yeah:

Unless someones prepared to loop their bike doing a wheelie/stoppie, then it's not that much of a spectator sport.

However if you can find some gravel near your deserted road, I'd be keen to show you what a CBR 250 RRR (Moto-X Spec) can do..

Unless someones prepared to loop their bike doing a wheelie/stoppie, then it's not that much of a spectator sport.

However if you can find some gravel near your deserted road, I'd be keen to show you what a CBR 250 RRR (Moto-X Spec) can do..

haha, Man when I lived down on the farm down there the boundary of the farm was the runway pretty much, would have been pretty easy to do if you were that way inclined.

Of course you would have had to dodge firefight driving the big truck across the side of the hills.

The old man was on his farm bike next to the security fence by the runway one day and some security guys came along and asked him to leave, pretty tight

He was doing about 80 odd round a corner heading up to Goat Island, behind me, on the road. The cars had thrown all the gravel up to the edge of the road, and he took a corner a little wider than he should and hit the gravel. All went tits up from there.. broke his leg going thru a post, and broke the post. He's still waiting a second op, which is scheduled for Easter Friday..
Oh, and it was my cbr, not his..

Well a bits and pieces ride. Scooterboy/Swanman/Dan/Bugjuice. Got together so we had a nice group of bikes R1S, zx10R, zx636 and GSXR1000. Headed off back of Kumeu and did a few kays of wheelies. Then settled down and Bujuice videoed us doing our stuff until we got moved on.

Then headed up to Kaukopakopa, where Bugjuice got a slow puncture repaired. On the way back Bugjuice took the lead and showed us his wheelie potential until his exhaust can decided to go loose. Mate you must be wheelieing so hard your bike is falling apart under you!

Dan is obviously a rolling stoppie guy, Mike is well up there with his monos and sparking knee sliders. Well looking forward to Bugjuice posting the video clips here soon as so we can all have a larf.

Surely this is what KB is all about, bikers getting together and riding bikes. Bring it on. :niceone:

Really??? I love that bit of road...... great for testing your acceleration.

Not much of a place to ride as it's pretty short...... but a still a sweet bit of real estate :spudbooge

anyhoo, nice bunch of bikes, shame a) mine was the smallest (never thought that would happen after moving on from a 250!); b) I had a puncture (jinxed from talking about it earlier in a thread) and c) me can was fallin off!!

Managed to get a few in tho before the can let go completely, and starting to get more comfortable with it now, so just practice needed as always. The other guys... well, I'm a nothing in their shadow.. all of them just have the knack.. Even a high-speed front wheel rise over a crest from SBNZ on the ZX10 as he passed me cos I had to back off. Nicely up around 160 on onwards. Pretty impressive to say the least.

We got about 2 mins 30 of messin around, shame we didn't really find a place to carry on. Have to do it again some time. I'll download the footage at work tomorrow and post it, but might have to zip it first so I can attach it. Will try to keep the file size down!

now to get that tyre and exhaust fixed!

might be better to set up a website somewhere to host it, as vids can be a bit hard to attach otherwise.

true.. any offers? I haven't got any space anywhere at the moment.. no idea on how big, can't see it being anywhere near 10mb, but I'll balance out the size for the quality..

Wouldn't have been a problem on the RRR spec.. The 21" front wheel means it glides serenely over gravel and undulations in the road surface.

cool, thanx for that.. I am tryin! Hopefully I'll have more comin, just practise. Glad to hear that I look like I'm getting there from an outside view too, and Swanny reassures me too.. All good. Just need to fix the can and tyre so I can get back out there!

He's got his final op which has been put off for ages. It got a nasty infection which has gone now. He goes in on Good Friday for a bone graft from his hip, muscle graft from his shoulder, and a skin graft/plsatic surgery all in one go, all into that leg. Hopefully after that, he can loose the crutches after a couple of months and start getting better properly. The titianium rod that's in there (that xray was pre-op, don't have any post op yet) will have to stay there.. He'll get over it, just time and doctors..

I'd say the post was a write off..
the post was a gonna, and still is! They haven't replaced it yet.
Also, was onto a grass verge/ditch - all plant life was spared of any damage!
