I'm sure I could get 200+kg of Triumph hanging from the wall/rafters

I was thinking of hydraulics and motors and shit but a hook'd prolly do it

so when its up you could still drive a car underneath it.
you would just have to rember not to push the bikes through the roof....... when up.

An update on the Tender process.
Bike was under a covernote issued by the broker
Insurer is not happy with the covernote being issued without their consent.
Bike may/maynot be covered.
This may take a while.............

Made me mad I didn't get to buy the damaged BIG from Gisborne, but most important thing is CW's mate is ok! Will have to keep an eye on this thread I think ( sell car = buy DR BIG)!

Mike is still too sore to get back on a bike - but he is working. Self employed -you know how it is!- you have to!

The bike is still at the towees just waiting patiently for NZI insurance to make up their petty little minds:no::no:

OK guys on your marks....
get set...

It is a 1987 DRBig750 done 40,000 km
the front is furked- intruments gone, handgrips are touching the cylinder head.
Forks are Bonita Banana.
top triple clamp is wrenched off!!!

wheel is buckled, middle of bike looks ok except for dent in header pipe.
ventura pack rack has been squished and has forced the rear subframe up with it- but should be straightenable. chain tension looks normal.
rear guard cracked, front guard gone.
Tank and side covers ok

Insurer NZI
Bike is now at Turners Auctions Mt Maunganui.
Expected price $ 600- $800
Dont know when it comes up but there are 6 other bikes there too.

He had it insured for $5000 - they have offered him $1900 as full settlement.
He has told them to have a little think about the $9500 he has given them each year since 1990 and get back to him with a more sensible offer.

GO!!!!

It got deregistered yesterday:Police:- they made him do it as it is a write off.

HHHMMMMM, yes who did buy it?????
It must have been a phone bidder as the bid was from upstairs,I shook my head thinking (I wont say what I said), I would have rebuilt it using Factory parts and sold it for $1500. To the new buyer of the 12 owner dereg DR I have for sale some very very expensive parts if you would like to put it back on the road.
Being a dereg insurance rightoff it will need a report before being put back on the road and if using non factory parts I'd say they would need to be certified?.
On a positive the oil looked reasonably fresh.

Na, The one at Turners Tauranga got too pricy for me , I brought this from Arrowrider - was supposed to be running / Has'nt yet .Think he might want to change that handle to Bentarrowrider, as he does'nt appear to have been as upfront about bikes condition as he could have been.

Its a sealed unit so probably not, what could go wrong with them? they look bomb proof:confused:

Eddieb
1st July 2009, 19:17
They are normally a sealed unit filled with some sort of resin so you need to cut/scrape the resin off all the electronics in there to get at them. Getting the resin out normally results in more harm than good.

Has anyone compared them to a smaller cc DR unit or Fische just in case Suzuki reused a part?

Hey Connor, try sending it to Anything Electronic In Nelson. They fix ignitors and ECU`s for cars and several years ago they repaired the CDI unit from my old boat motor.
If they cant fix it they wont charge you and if they can it is normally only 180 -200 dollars

i found this other site,

http://test.andersonvintageparts.com/index.php?search%5Bcategories.id%5D=5&search%5Bprefixes.description%5D=ELECTRONIC+CONTRO L+UNIT&search%5BCONCAT%28+products.%60prefix%60+%2C+%60po stfix%60+%2C+colors.%60code%60%29%5D=44B00+8126&search%5Bno_item%5D=1&search%5Bspecial_order%5D=1&image.x=46&image.y=9

its got just about every bike ever made, in its vintage parts cataloge.
i took a guess at the years between 1984 and 1989 came up with
two model bigs, 750S and 750SU.

there is a list of every factory part fitted to the bike.

So worth cheking out a 650 one then just in case. Grab Dave's one of his bike and see if it fits, Dave won't notice more things falling off his bike as he makes it happen all the time. :Pokey:

:Oi:

Even I might notice that it won't even start!

:bash:

:innocent:

Wouldn't surprise me if a DR650 one would do the job actually - worth checking!
