Hi
Does anyone know any decent gib stoppers willing to gib stop a small bathroom for cash?
It's about 1/3 done, but I can't be arsed doing the rest (fucking hate sanding, painting, filling).
North Shore, Auckland. Cash...

The vast majority of tradies hate the constant approach from tight-arses offering "cash" jobs. Best to pay the going rate if you want the job done, and done well.
I was working alongside a contract painter at a construction job at Otago University last week. In the course of an hour, he was approached by two people from the building, wanting him to do "cash" jobs. His irritation was obvious, and he told me that 3 to 4 such approaches a day is common.

If you hate sanding don't put so much on trying to get it perfect in one go... Done well it should need fuck all sanding.
Yes - I'm a prick and I also taught myself to be a pretty decent plasterer....
yep ......funny thing people think they are doing YOU a favour offering to pay cash ...at a discounted rate of course .....and of course you have started, realised its a arse of a job and want someone to fix it for you....for cheap...and then there are the people who want to do it themselves but want to borrow your tools

I have a mate who's a great plasterer. Unfortunately he has buggered his wrist so is unavailable at present. I've never met a plasterer (other than him) who would turn up when promised. Good luck...

If you were in Wanganui Id recommend Skelsey Plasterers, Top quality work, They arrive within 3 days of making contact, and they finish the damn job.
Shameless plug for a good company.

I used to work with my hands for a living, I did the best job possible, did what I said I'd do, and charged reasonably money. I had a list of customers who came back year after year.
Too few tradies are the same nowadays. I got quotes off a bunch of people to do work on my house - all but one quoted stupid money, because they were in demand - the one guy who quoted reasonable money, ended up painting the house (I didn't even haggle - thanks U1aGo), and they did a fucking great job.
All the rest have since phoned me because their gravy train has dried up. One guy quoted $1100 to extend a pipe in the bathroom by about 12 inches, and to fit a mixer... Tui. Took me an hour, and I rented the tools from hirepool.

I know a plasterer I *wouldn't* recommend. It cost us ~$1500, the house smelled like beer for weeks afterwards (he'd obvioulsy used his tarpaulins at a piss-up, he used (and wrecked our vacuum cleaner without our permission), and I had to go over his work myself to touch it up so it really was paint quality.
The best tradesman I've had in the house was one we got to quote us on flooring. He suggested we'd be better off tiling, that I could do it myself, and so I did (had done some before). Ended up tiling two toilets, the laundry, bathroom and ensuite, for ~$800, and it looks great. :niceone:
It went so well, I tiled the entranceway and the front deck as well.
Like you, MBB, I can do stuff myself (which in many ways is a curse). But I hate plastering. It takes a while to get the knack of it, and it takes a long time to develop the skills to do a really good job.
Sly_Guy (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=20060) has just had a plasterer in his place in Torbay, I think he was stoked with the result, for an amazing price. Maybe flick him a PM.
