Had my'97 CBR600fv up to 270ish (indicated) on saturday, just trying to get away from a very well ridden VFR400R. Not bad for an old girl i thought. My previous fastest would have been 200ish on my CBR250. That gets me thinking, what have you guys and gals had your bikes up to? We can all read the factory specs but i wana know how fast YOU have had your bikes... And for arguments sake, we will assume we're all talking about riding on the track...

Riding bike is always about pushing yourself to the limit.

I always try to ride as fast as I can. That's the reason why I bought my superbike.

We were on the Playstation at the time but I am pretty sure that counts....

Showed 155mph on an 03 ZX-6R. Don't think she had much more in her.
240kph on a 95 ZX-9R
260kph on both an R1 and a 'busa. Might have been quicker on the busa, but I wasn't looking at the speedo at that point - more important things to concentrate on...

Those are all indicated speeds, no idea what the margin of error is.

Topped out an FXR150 (showed about 140kph - probably wasn't doing anything like that)
Top out the ZXR400 on puke every lap. No idea how fast that is, it's a track bike so it's got no speedo:)

Bloody good! on a skinny country lane felt a hell of a lot faster than 270ish on a 600 at puke. Mind you, it was still just a case of hold the throttle open and pull off a good racing tuck....exiting, but not difficult.

I think just the knowledge that you're doing that speed would be a rush! Not too many would be able to show they've done a genuine 300km/h, less the 320km/h (200mph), target.

I've "only" done an indicated 215km/h so not sure perzackery how fast but it felt pretty good to me at the time...

He said, "I don't-a really know-a why I do eet-a. But-a eet feeels-a right-a, and-a seems-a to let-a me brake-a harder into thee corners-a." Helps with turn-in too.
Seems he started doing it in 2005 or 2006, and it became a habit, so it's part of his style and presumably if he changed it, it would throw his riding off for a while. You could argue that it makes an incrementally bigger shift of the centre of mass to the inside of the turn, and creates some drag (like an air brake). Since an incrementally small advantage here and there can add up over 26 or so laps, mebbe it helps him win. He's talking now about charging other riders who (presumably) have started copying him in order to not miss any potential advantage.

Oh... speed. The fastest I've officially gone (as verified by a gummint record, and a certificate in my filing cabinet) is 132 km/h. I was very lucky to have been stopped before I went any faster, killed hordes of people, crashed, died, exploded into flames, and died all over again. (I HATE it when that happens...)

If you recall, back in 2005/2006 or whenever it was he had a stoush with Gibernau and ran up the inside on the penultimate corner, the Rossi bashers were saying, "Look - he was out of control! Had his leg out and fott down so he wouldn't crash!" That was actually around the time he started doing it.

I was camping with friends and my dog, drinking booze all day, saw the dog asleep in the sun and thought i could use a nap too, bourbon still in hand... Short while later my friend got the camera. Good times.

Now, my speedo said 270ish, yes i think we all agree, speedos arent reliably accurate, and i probably wasnt going near that fast, but when someone asks "how fast were you goin"? you will say what your speedo said... Theres no point debating discrepensies/inaccuracies and shit everytime. Next time ill just say, "redlining 6th with standard gearing". And if i ever saw 300kmh indicated on a hayabusa or similar, i would take that as 300 club bragging rights. Especially if u got it on tank cam...

Pretty sure it won't go any faster.
When I could get a tow from faster bikes I'd be at 220 just after the kink.
If I couldn't get behind someone then I would get that quick till my braking point.

270 on an old CBR is waaay out...

my 03 RR down a long hill would only hit 262, and that was with some performance goodies.

My TL with a speedohealer got to 260.
My FZ6 Naked with a speedohealer only upto 215.
My RVF400 was 172 when restricted (radar reading :innocent:)

You wont see 300 on my busa, it goes to 280 then the 300 mark is left bare.
Had it up to 265 at puke, just out of 4th and into 5th, but im too sensible (chickensh*t) to take it any faster.
My ZZR250 did 160 at redline in 5th, and 160 in 6th.
As for speedo accuracy, the busa's are supposed to be terrible.
Have ridden past cops at 120 and they haven't batted an eyelid.

most speedos tend to be off by around 10 - 15%, so the faster you go the further out they become. fitting a speedo healer or using a gps is the best way to get your true speed

Yes some do. A little hand held GPS unit will confirm or deny actual speed.

They cost about $200... They give other important stuff too.

Thats because its overreading by abou 15% as youve changed your gearing and dont have a speedohealer :D

Ive only had speedohealers on two bikes:
