Water / mud flowing across the road in corners

Big potholes right on the best lines

Meaty four wheel drive tyres ripping up fresh chipseal and hurling it around

Welcome, Winter :)

Welcome, Winter :)

You forgot; early morning, completely black, bloody freezing, pissing rain, silly woman drivers, blind old men dirvers, tailgaters in all the above situations and roads shining all sorts of colours from the surrounding lights. All these things, plus yours definately wakes you up and gets you ready for a day's work. Live it I say! :wari:

You forgot to mention, "visor fogged up, rain trickling down the inside of your boot/trouser leg/collar, cold face, loving the feeling of being alive".

What visor?

The one rain's running down the inside of, because you've cracked it open so it stops fogging up.

Ooh - we missed one: having a pile of dripping wet gear to dry out.
Got caught in a heavy downpour last night, and while I was cold (didn't have my thermal liner in till this morning), I was dry. But my helmet and jacket needed wiping down, my boots were damp, and my (vented summer) gloves were a trifle damp. Pants were still clammy and damp this morning.

Scoot all wrapped up nice and warm in the shed waiting for the next fine day. These wet cold days belong to the cage.

Thats why I use an MX helmet. There is no fogging problem.

Had a BMW System flip helmet once - worst helmet i have ever owned - it used to leak along the seam and drip down inside - yukky - ended up giving that one away...

Tar Snakes!!!!
There has been a few added to the roads around here of late.
I walked across the road the other night (it was raining) and stopped to slide my foot across one. Road/Tar Snake/Road.... can really feel how slippery they are even in shoes.

Yup, them and all the painted road markings.

And the bridge decks which freeze before any of the roads look even half frosty

Yeessss.....
Been there, done that.
My first three helmets were openfaced ones. Oh, the joy of being out'n'about then it starts to hail....

Dunedin is enjoying 5 degree highs with snow down to 200 metres, solid rain below that. Not encouraging for newb riders!

Yup, even raindrops can be painfull at supra legal speeds

I carry a balaklava in my pocket for such moments

I wouldn't go full open face though - I like a measure of protection to stop my chin scraping along the road

If it's a work day I ride the bike. Summer, winter, warm, cold, whatever. With a decent set of wet weather gear, and tyres it's all good.

It's just cleaning the bike each night that can be a pain.

bikes are for riding, not cleaning

time spent polishing is better spent riding

a wipe with a rag once a year is more than enough

I really need to keep the temperature gauge in 'Engine Temp' mode as opposed to 'Outside Temp' mode, because it just gets depressing, especially through Waiouru. And it doesn't take windchill into account.

Good thing I'm moving away from the bellybutton of NZ (Palmerston North) to somewhere slightly warmer and less windy (Auckland - cue abusive JAFA posts... :girlfight:)

Each night !? WTF. Good lord. What are you, a mafia hit man needing to get rid of the evidence?

Who ever heard of cleaning a bike every day. It's winter isn't it? That menas rain, right? Rain is water , right? So, you're going to be ri=ding THROUGH water, right? So what needs cleaning? BTW do/would you you clean your car every time you take it out?

This thread reminded me to put an oil heater in the bike room so she doesn't get cold during winter.:2thumbsup:2thumbsup:2thumbsup

Since today is the ninth day in succession of manky weather I went out for a blat anyway - just to ease the withdrawal symptoms and general crabbiness that biking inactivity engenders - and besides, it's got the new 2bros can on, innit?...togged up with the thermals etc etc and put the rain gear over the top...I could still move - just - if I tried hard, although it was difficult to bend over far enough to open the garage door...
Headed out towards the blackest of skies which soon enough produced pissisting rain in bucket loads...and it was blowing like buggery as well. Made for an interesting pootle but all good - a little slower than usual, a little less lean angle - but at least it blew away the cobwebs. Actually hard to hear the new can over the wind noise so I daresay I will have to try again when the wind drops a bit...

Statements like this will get Honda riders a bad name...:shit:
Refer to this (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=99003) thread for evidence...
