Buell xb12s front end

Sorry guys, have posted before about my mates buell, but now he is serious about getting his front end fixed.
Anyways, he is finding that he is getting feedback from the forks which is not letting him ride with confidence.
I'm more an offroad man so not sure if its the same - if they need a service like a revalve or what.....Its a 2004 i think
He's based in Tuakau, can anyone give advice or have a look at it for him?cheers

tell him to check the tyer pressure....
could be simply too hard or too soft! ( i use 36 )

It may very well need springs dependent on the riders weight but also the stock compression pistons choke off at relatively low fork shaft velocity. Big port pistons with an appropriate stack are the best solution, plus revalving of the stock rebound pistons. Yes, it does cost money but it is the solution.

Actually, better than a new bike. Many stock suspension units are nothing to write home about.

well i have raced and toured on a 04 bolt... great, no worries at all. my set up is rather ferm and 34psi (36 if touring)
Id say this bike is not set up for the rider or something is wrong. Showa does some shit gear but the buell has about their best.

He is not riding offroad with you is he. :doh: This could be part of the problem if he is.

I race/ride from a shitty old 350LC (postie) to a Iti bike with factory Ohlins... and yes I know both can be aproved on, BUT... what I was saying for the average joe, the XB Showa is some very good shit.

I totally disagree, the ride height control and bump compliance can be significantly improved, for the average joe.

far be it for me to argue Robert, what I mean is once set up corectly for the rider the XB is pretty damn good, yes like anything if you want to through diferent components at it you will improve it 10 fold.
The XB I ride was set up for racing as new, I am only asuming its internals are std, I could be wrong as thousands were spent on it from new.
The Buell in this thread might still be set up as out of the box, or it could have been well mucked up with... might have a failing componnt, who knows, I just saying the owner should not be having issues unless hes a serious racer on a street circuit. :niceone:

Most of our customers are not racers, they are ordinary everyday riders that are seeking suspension that will actually absorb bumps. Many oem suspension units fail to do that to a decent standard on our often nasty roads, irrespective of all possible external adjustment options. Those Buell forks are no exception.

I'll back that up from a different angle. We have had visits from the Conti people at various stages, and they are blown away by the surfaces we ask our bikes to deal with - quite different to the road's in Europe that most tyres and suspension are designed to deal with. Not only did the Conti guys note that our seal was incredibly abraisive, and probably causing the difference in life that has been noticed between northern hemisphere and southern, but also that we have a huge number of abrupt bumps which would challenge the carcase of a tyre more here than in europe.
This also applies to how our roads challenge suspension, and why some of us believe that NZ roads show shortcomings in bump compliance that many european roads just won't - true fact :)

And North American roads....it always makes me laugh when people buy US made aftermarket shocks for their Harleys thinking theyre going to get a massive improvement. Which doesnt happen because they are only ''tuned'' just well enough to suit their predominantly smooth roads.

Yeah well Ok, our Buell is a road bike 40k later Toured north and south Is may times) I am a fussy bastard and very happy with the Buell set up... now if you want to talk Honda VTR1000 front ends (Showa again) well theres a shiter than shity OEM set up.
