Usually this is a lovely ride, but the recent rains have caused numerous slips hence it's pretty muddy at the moment. Thought I'd continue the loop via Whangaripo and Wayby Valley roads, only to find they've been resurfacing a section of Whangaripo Valley Road so that was pretty slow going too! Ah well, it's still nice to get out!

Sorry I thought it might be the crappy weather keeping everyone off the roads last week!

Clues:
It's a lot closer than Matakana - less than 25km from the Harbour Bridge.
It's on a highway named after a "corner store that's not lumpy".

Not really where I thought it was, as it turns out you can't actually drive down to the water at the Northern end of the Harbour Bridge. However the receptionist at the Harbour Bridge Project Office was very helpful - she immediately knew where it was, and explained how to get there.

Was heading to the coast, but when the wife and I got to the gravel, we turned around and stopped here.

One I go down is a right turn off the main road norf. Then you head past the little Army place and down to the beach. And that road is rough.

Haha Don't think there's enough traffic north of Parakai to warrant a speed trap!
Although with less traffic the locals get a bit casual - that's the real risk....

I highly recommend the ride out to this tag. The sealed portion of the ride leading up to gravel part is in perfect condition and is a fantastic bit of road. One corner in particular seems to go on forever.

I've just checked and it's possible to do it in just 13km of gravel each way (original post updated). On the way there, I took a wrong turn and did an extra 15km or so of gravel unnecessarily. So I probably did around 40km of gravel in total.

It was a great way to blow out the cobwebs after a month overseas away from my bike though.

A couple of clues.
It's got a Fletcher's supplied building site to the left of it, it's on a main road out to the north,west!.
There is a car park on the other side of the steps/entry way.
