Rubber welding?

A few weeks ago I got sideswiped by some stupid woman who doesn't know what her eyes are used for while cutting the traffic on the notorious Southern motorway in the peak hour traffic :ar15:

I smacked off her rear vision mirror with my handle bars, scrapped up her front guard with my naked radiator and tore off her bumper with my engine mount :spanking:

Fortunately for me the Triumph Street held up well and I had practically no damage, except for my delicate wee indicators. These where pushed back and survived well except the rubber mounts have spilt. Not just one but both front and back have spilt.

In order to replace these mounts I have to purchase the whole indicator which costs a cool $145 each. The indicators work fine so I'm not keen to do that, they are just a little droopy and no one likes to have droopy bling :bleh:

So I was wondering if anyone can recommend a solution to fix them. I thought about getting them welded but not sure if the rubber would hold up.

Don't bother suggesting electrical tape either Ducati*Hard kindly temporarily repaired them with that on our last Corro loop :msn-wink:

are they oval or round?

If round why not get some steel ones made, a piece of appropriate sized pipe cut to suit then edges filed smooth.

If they are oval you could consider looking somewhere like para rubber for something similar, or even a bike wreckers. One from a similar indicator might do the job.

Seriously, check out the Hella parts catalogue, often cheaper indicators share the same rubber. You might find the complete cheaper unit for a lot less than $145.

I have used a product called "Shoe Goo" to repair DR650 indicators...same problem as yours. This stuff is a rubber advesive and worked well on the DR, I crash tested it several times after on adventure rides and it held better than the original indicators.

Totally agree ...aftermarket stuff is available and is cheaper. Even if you only use the rubber bits you need to fix the problem ... spare indicators do come in handy now and then...

Or get in contact with a bike wrecker... they have contact with wreckers throughout the country. They may find one, with what you need...

Cyanoacrylate (super glue) works really well on rubber. If the are only torn, you can glue them up just fine

got a feeling the indicators are new to the Triumph range (only on the latest Street and Speed Triples), but I also think the rubber stems are unchanged on the other white lensed indicators Triumph use - if i'm right then I can help you. Give me a call over the weekend: 576 1424

And on the insurance question, lets just say we where both on a solid line so who knows who was in the wrong. All I can say is she had way more damage than me, didn't get my number plate and just stood there staring dumbfounded at her mirror and bumper lying on the road smashed while I took her details and then swiftly rode off amoungst the other staring cage drivers :devil2:

Perhaps the family gumboot needs repair...

Have an "off the record" chat with a traffic enforcer, and get his/her spin on things...
Sounds like another ... I never saw him(her)... If you got her details, pay a visit/ring (record conversation)... see what comes out..
