Great to back on two wheels again. Ummmmed and rrrrddd for ages as to what to get, and the budget was not great but I settled for an RF900....a fat bike for my fat arse. Lots of bike for the bucks....red of course. Only thing missing is the sixth gear. Bit of a pain with the crap weather of late but the rides I have had have been friggin awesome.
Riding like a Nana at the moment but it is coming back...still a bit unsure of the wet weather handling so taking it easy.

Nothing wrong with the RF900 ... plenty of bang for the buck. A bike underated by many, especially those who have never ridden one...
Dont worry about the shit weather ... summer is coming ...

26 yrs since I owned a bike...all it took was one ride on my sons bike....
I was hooked ......bought an old gsx 1100....rode it home at night in the wind and rain ,talk about thrown in at the deep end...scared the shit out of me...biggest bike Id ever owned was a cb 350......but now Im loving it..always looking for an excuse to ride.Got heaps of negative crap from friends..."dont kill yourself on it " was the usual comment..fuck em its my mid life crisis I,ll do it my way.No one ever told me not to kill myself scuba diving...isnt diving dangerous....Anyway good on ya...:niceone:

I came back 3 years ago after 22 odd year gap. There is a lot to relearn and at lot has changed over the years. I got a lot of help from KB members - you do have to sort thru some noise though. Best wishes.

Yeah spent 20 years not riding, now back on the big fullas for 5 years
I have heard that its the time between 6months to 18 months that are the most dangerous for new born bikers, something to with first 6 mnths being scared, you get over that, and then get too cock sure that you now know what you are doing and you are the man, thats when shit happens, its when you get to 18 months later that you realise that at 6 months you knew bugger all, but somehow you made it through. A bit like teenagers growing up.

Good luck until then, happy biking.

Curious this one. Get it all the time. The last person who told me I was a "temporary New Zealander" was a couple of weeks ago at a cafe I frequent. Not a big deal really except the fat (and rude) prick was a good 30kgs overweight and on the third cigarette I had seen him smoke in the last half hour.
Oh, and the next idiot who tells me I'm having a mid life crisis is going to wear the back of my helmet. I am not in crisis now or at any time (possibly because I haven't found a cute 25yr old blond whose interested in a short, fat bald guy with a mortgage and a Falcon wagon for transport)...................ignore the silly buggers and leave them to their mediocrity and enjoy an experience they will never understand.
....also, don't fall off, it hurts.....enjoy your riding.

Yurrr...I had 20 years away too - been back aboard 14 months. But I don't regard myself as "born again"...just as having had a long time between bikes...inside I was always expecting to get another one - took a while to get the money sorted...
So far nobody has told me I am a temporary NZer - perhaps because I live alone apart from the cat, and she says bugger all..apart from "MEEEEOOWWWWW!"

At around 6000kms I came back into the zone and the 22 year gap closed.

Coming up 3 years ago for me , I looked & looked for a 'deal' & finally (after bloody months) brought a brand spanking new CB1300. I have ridden the CB from one end of the country to the other & a fair bit in between. I have brought & sold a few other bikes on the way & enjoyed them all. Still got the CB & no intention of selling it either. That ones a keeper :niceone:

Congrats mate, fantastic news. I am sure you will already have nocited that bikes are a great deal more powerful than they used to be, but then again they also handle the high power a lot better.

Enjoy and live it to the full.

Thanks for the welcome. It was actually my partner who suggested that I get one after my constant drooling over bikes passing us by on those fantastic summer days. Too bad that I got a call from my ex wife only days lafter buying it to state how irresponsible I was and all the usual " you will kill yourself on it" crap. I felt like I was 17 yrs old again when I disobeyed Ma and Pa and bought a bike...a GT185. Smoothed over that one by saying that I would learn to ride at the Coca Cola riding school that used to be run at Western Springs. The ex wasn't so easy to pacify as she said I was a bad roll model for my 18 yr old who wants a bike too. Needless to say she received an appropriate reply involving sex and travel.
I've done 2 bitumen inspections years ago. One down George Bolt drive, towards the airport, when some twat decided to do a u turn in front of me as I was overtaking a car 2 slots back. Braked hard and the front let go on a cats eye. I can remember being on my arse spinning around and on each revolution thinking shit there goes an indicator then there goes the fairing etc. Managed to patch me and the bike up.
The second was riding back from Ardmore and fanging my mates Kawi 400 thru some twisties. 3/4 of the way around a corner I collected an opposite direction car that had stopped beside a milk truck for a chat (moron). The bike became a hood ornament whilst I went for brief space walk and then checked out a farmers 7 strand fence to make sure it was tensioned correctly. Got up and then tried to pull the bike out of the front of the car. Funny thing is my mate who was on my bike and just behind me missed the car but took his bike with him to check out a different stretch of the fence.

I haven't got anything to prove so will just be taking it easy except for the odd squirt or when I see a twisty road sign....but hey isn't that why we ride?
To be old and wise you first have to be young a stupid....think I'm somewhere in between.
Happy riding.

That's why she's an ex??
