So who's ridden one of these? What did you think of it? I might have to go test ride one...

Sat on one - dwarfed it. How tall are you?

Hmm, go have a play on one from a dealer.

I'm 185cm and I looked like a clown on one of them mini bikes - but then I'm a husky gentleman anyway.

Was gutted actually.

A 675 would fit you nicely!

If you have the slightest predeliction to discomfort of the neck, upper back, shoulders, or wrists, then give it a miss.

Definitely take one for a ride though.

For me, it wouldn't work as anything other than a toy, trailered to the bottom of the hill or a race track.

Latest news on the 675 owners forum on the annual European multibike shootout. "Four years in a row, Triumph Daytona 675 is the winnner"

It was the first bike to win three years in a row last year.
Triumph are still denying the rumours that they are working on a superbike version. Lets all act surprised when they eventually announce a big Daddy Daytona.

The problem is (for Triumph) that their 1050 engine is just not all that ... much ... any more. It's, what, 130-140hp? The 675 is allegedly 120 ish. And both Aprilia and BMW have just dumped 190hp bikes on the market. So somehow Triumph are going to have to land in the 170-200 ballpark.

Hmmm. So, the 675 is, say 0.18 hp/cc so they'd need about ... oh ... an equivalently tuned 1050 would come out at 189hp. Bullseye.

Yeah, let's act all surprised when they announce a big one :)

If you have a need for speed, then this is the baby for you.

If you get on with the size of an SV, then the Daytona should fit like a glove (a tight one).

For me the Daytona is one of the best looking bikes around. I sat on one at the showroom but declined to take it out. Not my kind of riding position. I would cramp up after the first 10km.

Your SV is a great all rounder. The Daytona isn't. You will need to keep both :)

Good luck.

Shoulder hurt after an hour but thank goodness races aint an hour long (unless yr into endurance and then adrenilyn compensates) Big framed and 5'7 and feel like i'm dwarfing it ! Lucky i got the belly to hold me up a bit !

Just traded my 955 on an 07 675 and hell difference in top weight, near tipped it right over when i lifted it off the side stand !
They are alledgedly 123 bhp at the wheel where the 1050 is 130 but the daytona is 20 odd kg lighter and as ya say tuned !
Found that the revs never stop giving (not been on the track yet, so just quietly) opened it up at 6000 top gear doing sumfucinkm and it took off like the speed three would but it all changes at 10-14000, it's almost like a power band on a 2 stroke (nearly) and at 12-14k in 2nd or 3rd its madness !

Would i buy one for street ? No ! It would be a waist, you'd never use the power range, or you'd be doing it all on one wheel !

Edit : just got home and meeeehhh i'd like to change that ! Not that friggin bad on the street, has ya head tilting back a bit listening to it as ya hold it through the gears haha, so that could be a distraction !
And i recon if i bought a rowing machine, it wouldn't take long till ya could clamp ya knees to that baby like them horse girls use to do to my head !
Cant friggin wait till next friday !

Or get a GSXR600 and fall somewhere in between.

I was almost going to get a 675... fantastic bikes... but i also like to do big tours around the south island and the GSXR felt surprisingly comfortable.

I think you'll find that is claimed crank output...

Most tests show output in this region....

Agreed. IF there is a thou in their pipeline it's not going to be anything like a distant cousin to the current 1050cc triple. Totally new motor I'm guessing.
As said, with BMW and Aprilia dropping new models into the pot with mega power, Triumph know the bar has been lifted ...way up there somewhere in the stratosphere. Which is another good reason to avoid 180+hp bikes and enjoy the fun of the middle class.

As for the 675 D comfort. I'm far from a teenager myself (she ran too fast for my walking frame) but I've no issues with the riding position. I've done heaps of long weekend rides around the Sth Is. and last month the East Cape to Tauranga-Hammy then back down the west side. All in comfort with no pain. I rode Wgtn-Taupo on a Saturday. Did the TriDay trackday on the Sunday and rode back to Wgtn straight from the trackday. If a bikes uncomfortable that would be the test! I got home ready to ride some more.

Nothing to do with age. Ergonomics are peculiar. You're also arguably the exact jockey-like physique the 675 Daytona is designed around.

Could be the one, i just got it stuck in my head that the specs i found for the 1050 said 130 bhp and when i took it to the dyno thats what i got from her !
Same Online outfit show 123 for the 675 So will have to take this to the same dyno and see what it says ! Even if it's just braggin rights lol, Just have to be carefull i dont say/write seconds lol
Be interested to what that site says the 1050 did in the shootout !

I have owned one for around three months now.
It's my first "big" bike and as such I don't have anything to compare it to but I am very happy with this bike.
It is not a machine to toodle around town with, the riding position just doesn't lend itself very well to this and you'll find yourself leaning quite heavily on your wrists. But get it out on the open road where the higher speeds take some of this load off and it is a different story. Bloody brilliant.
Fitting tank grips apparently makes a huge difference in this respect to.
I am not the biggest guy around at around 1.76mtr and 85kg so the size of the bike suits me fine. It will take me quite some time yet before I might be able to use the performance of this bike to its fullest but I am having one hell of a fun time trying and learning. As mentioned before, once that needle gets close to 10000rpm the fun really begins. And as pointed out to use the bike at that end of the rev range on the street really puts you into licence losing territory.
I like the looks of the bike, very modern without being almost alien looking like the new R6 and the like. The build quality is fantastic. The finish on the paint and alloy components is first rate and is one of the things which first caught my eye when I started looking for my next bike. I just knew I had to have one. And the more I started looking into these Daytona's and the rave reviews they were getting just kept reinforcing this need.
No regrets at all from this corner.

Sat on one in the shop the otherday, Felt a little small for me, But I have to wait another month till they get a bike in as a demo that I can test ride.

So in the meantime, I took a Street Triple R out, jesus that was a bad idea. Now I want both!

Someone in Dinsdale parks theirs outside their work (on the footpath which is quite brave!) and it looks fkn sweeeeeet. Was drooling over it last night after some drinks at the place. First saw it a couple of weeks ago as i drove past and i thought it must have been just another yellow hyo as it was parked right where some little wankers could play with it.

Ahhh I'll just go try one out when I get a chance.
The street triple is a little unclothed for my preference...
In general, I like a forward seat position on a bike - just what I am used to I suspect - don't like upright seating position. Have no probs on the SVS - I don't lean on my arms but use the abs instead - all you lazy bastards who use your arms as props need to try it out...:dodge:
Anyhoo, 'tis just another pipe dream at present...like many I have. Still think the Daytona looks pretty cool...

They are just one step closer to being a cage... but they sure make the Daytona look nice.

The June Bike rider magazine has a photo of the Daytona 675SE coming out end of year?. Grey fairing on a blue frame and swingarm. Looks superb.

Not really a Triumph freak...Hell, back in the olden days when I was a young hoon, Triumphs were regarded as crap - totally inferior to Norton - and others too come to that. They were Trad British then and did suffer a few of the typical Brit Bike foibles - like leaking oil everywhere and breaking down every two minutes to mention a couple...
But I do like the triple engine...
