Gareth Jones made his debut in the German Superbike Championsip overnight at round 2 raced at Oscherslaben finishing 5th in R2 and 2nd in R2. It's great to see NZ racing getting a bit of European coverage on the back of his efforts overthere this season and not inconceviable that riders could be enticed to make a trip out here in their down season. Following is a (badly translated) story of the IDM website.
Congratulations! IDM starter Gareth Jones (OUT) wins supersport titles in New Zealand Well hoppla. The IDM season begins only in one and a half months, there has the first IDM starter already a title in the bag. The 22-jährige Australian Gareth Jones got itself on the first March weekend with the fifth and last round of the road racing championships of New Zealand on the Pukekohe TRACK in close proximity to Auckland the title in the class supersport 600. Jones supplied itself with to the 600-er class the whole season over a packing duel with SAM Smith, to a local driver. Thus it continued also with the final. Running won Smith, which other Gareth Jones - two completely confine " Kisten" with only in each case 0,014 and/or 0,004 seconds of difference. At the end was enough for the title gain before Smith. We congratulate! Also the Superbike title lay for Gareth before the final in range. But unfortunately technical problems stopped hopes suddenly. After oil from the engine stepped, it was already ruled out in round 4 of first running. In the second run Gareth then third and reserved also the third seat in the championship behind the Australian Robert Bugden and " Kiwi" Andrew Stroud. Now Gareth Jones will make itself after a short recovery break on to Europe, in order to take up with the team blank engine haven team of Rob Vennegoor the preparations for the Netherlands championship, which has priority for the team. The IDM fans will be able to welcome the freshbaked master of New Zealand Gareth Jones due to date overlaps only to 4 to 5 IDM employments. Here it pray-rides the IDM SUPERBIKE. Starts are planned also in the FIM superstick 1000 Cup.
