There will be a limit of around 50 or 60 bikes. This means that we can run three groups and get everyone out on track once an hour during the day. At Ruapuna, total track time for each rider was around 2 hours with each group getting about 15/20 minutes per hour.

Hey Chris, is there a limit to the number of riders? I plan to show up on the day weather permitting.
There will be a limit. We are very keen in giving riders as much time on track as possible, which means not having 5 or 6 groups of riders. Ideally we would like to have 3 groups of 20 riders.
As for 'weather permitting' the day goes ahead whatever! Good chance to practice your wetweather riding skills.

Slow coaches aren't you all. I was signed up in the first few days this came out. It's the weather that I'm worried about. Worse part of the year. Hardly ever been to Manfeild without either; rain going up, or rain at the track or rained on all the way home. Takes a lot of fun out of the day for us that ride there and back. I really need to get a tow bar one day so I can do the comfy drive up thingy

The person doing the scanning, or colour matching in the case of digital photos, needs to tone down the magenta content in the blues to remedy the colour problem. I got pretty good at that when I worked for Dive NZ magazine as most of the pics were underwater shots.

Change the above to 'may take some riders on the day'. A sudden surge in popularity may not allow us to take any riders on the day.

Yes... But you don't offer much detail on the outcome of that. I just don't feel like being a comedy section of your magazine article...
Maxing out the Guzzi on the back straight at manifield and being buzzed by GSXR1000's still in second gear is NOT fun!

He got quicker throughout the day after some tuition from Billy Byber, was probably the most improved rider on the day. If you read my report from Ruapuna, nowhere did anyone have the piss taken out of them, apart from Todd our Bikemart man!!! I can tell you that not one person at KR would think you were a comedy act, quite the opposite in fact. If you want to come along, we would love to see the bike out there. Hopefully most of the 1000's will be in expert and intermediates classes.

Ok, no worries. But if you do ever want to come to one of our days, we would be more than happy to get you out on track.
We currently have a fair amount of modern bikes to play with and talk about at work, but, the current topic of conversation for the last hour or so has been an RD350 (the GSXR750 hasn't had a look in) which is sat on a ute in the car park!! At 8.00am, the neighbours were woken to the sound of a beautifully muffled 2 stroke being revved to within an inch of its life!

I loved those things.... Never see them much these days but I honestly think those RD's did more to change peoples perception of performance than any other bike sold in NZ including the GSXR.
Any 16 year old could purchase / handle one and they were faster than nearly anything.. It took a bloody long piece of road to unwind the Atlas's longer legs but it was worth it to steam past em with their duffle coated rider hunched over the 'ace bars' ... Glory days...
Track days are fun but I still don't think most people want to be bothered by fat old blokes on old ugly bikes... Not the place or time for it... Still, I have been, 'slowing down' lately so a few lessons would be a nifty idea. If I suddenly get wealthy I will get Vicki to buy me an entry for my birthday!
Cheers

WHAT A RIPPER OF A DAY. Big thanks to KiwiRider. Looking forward to seeing some of the pics and vid. The wheelie session was a blast.

What a day.
Strolled through to the track arriving at about 08.30 and signed on. Off with the pack rack and the mirrors and on with cable ties, and a bit of duct tape over the speedo to make sure there was no peeking close to those all important braking markers.
First session for novices and those of us who had never been on Manfield before. A good session seeing "where the track goes" and then waited for the first Intermediate session of the day. Had a reasonably good session here but the rear end was wandering all over the place. I get back to the pits and find that I've only got 32psi in the rear and it's still hot. What the? Have a quick look at the tyre and there is the culprit.. sitting proud and happy smack bang in the middle of the tread is a dirty big nail head.
So it was off the Palmy to hopefully find a dealer who was open and willing to deal with the issue at that late hour. I'd made the decision before departing not to worry about the mirrors as it was only 15k down the road. About 5km south of Awahuri and I get pulled over by plod. "Any reason why your speeding and I now see you have no mirrors either?" Tell him the truth and the after a while the response is, "Okay, just take it easy" "What the?!"
Into to Palmy and find Phil Turnbull Motorcycles. Great bunch of guys and they had the work done within an hour and I was back at the track by 13.15 and ready to participate in the rest of the avo. Two more intermediate sessions and while I was becoming quite comfortable on the twin it was pretty clear that it's not the right bike for that particular track. Maybe a change of front sprockets would help? Apparently I was down to a .35 come the end of the second session, and may have been a couple quicker than that in my last. In-line fours generally kicked my arse on all the straights as you'd expect, but most of them held me up in the corners, particularly in the last corner coming on to the start finish straight.
And to top off my rather interesting day I kill a bird with my helmet while overtaking on the road into Shannon.
Maybe I should check my lotto tickets now?
All in all a great day out and really good to meet somemore KBers'
Many thanks to Kiwi Rider for putting on the day which was well organised. And of course many thanks again to Phil Turnbull Motorcycles for their prompt attention to my puncture.
What now? Well feck it.. I've got the bug again so it's gonna have to be onto Bikepoint and try and find a suitable 600cc track bike. Look out clubmans.

Er sorry mate. I thought that you wanted to test your radar detector out on the HP riddled SH1. Actually I believe that that way is the quickest route back. Might be wrong. Usually am.

We were really lucky with the weather - despite a bad forecast, it stayed dry all day.
A well-organised day and good to see minimum (and non-injury) crashes.
I think the "best wheelstand" award goes jointly to MD and Speedking. Have got some great piccies of you guys but am no good at putting them onto this site so will get them to you separately.
Novice of the Day goes to Her_B4 who went out on the CBR600 and got her times down very nicely - well done!!!
Thanks to the guys at KiwiRider - it was a great day.

As said above great day. Was very tired by the end of the day and probably shouldn't have gone out for the last session.
Huge difference in bike with stickier tyres on. Had alot of fun following Frosty for a few laps on his old XJ  learning some better lines and how I should be moving on the bike. 5 sessions at 15-20 mins is plenty of riding and great value.
The only passing on the outide of corners made for a very safe feeling day as you knew no one was going to shoot up inside on the entry to corners and run you wide or worse.
Sept is the next one and I'm sure pommie_chris will be offering the KBers the same deal.
Bad luck on the nail Mark_nz.
Er sorry mate. I thought that you wanted to test your radar detector out on the HP riddled SH1. Actually I believe that that way is the quickest route back. Might be wrong. Usually am.
No worries Jimbo great fun trying to chase you yesterday. Your way out of Fielding was the curvy scenic route. Where you turned right leaving the track we usually go left straight to Sanson. I thought you might have known a way to avoid Sanson and join HW1 further sth.
LB- show us your pics when ready. Did anyone get a shot of Speedking's big moment landing the front wheel where the MV got crossed up and went ballistic? It was at the end of one of our earlier joint stand up wheelie passes. Closest I've seen him come to being thrown off. I was pretty sure he would lose it, good save. Both his tyres looked like they were smoking at the same time.
I've never been able to do stand up wheelies that good before. Shit it was fun. Mikey and Slipstream seemed to be enjoying it with their prime spots at the end.

What a primo day. A big thanks to Pommy Chris and the rest of the Kiwi Rider bunch who put on a great day. Had a good ol day dabbling with Mr MD. Tried to stay with speedking but there was no way I could keep pace with him, especially as he was backing it into the turns Gary McCoy style. In the end I borrowed Brian Bernards GSXR and leathers and got the job done. That was me honest it was. Sparky and MD got some awesome bike footage with the video. Looks damn good.
A big cheers to sparky B for organising me some knee sliders too.
The 6hundy got a flogging I can tell you all.

Great Day - although a bit of a false start for me first up. Pulled the bike out of the lock up at the Hotel to find the rear tyre dead flat. Luckily one of the riders in the group I came with (non-KB'ers) had a trailer. Was able to get to the local bike shop and put a mushroom plug in. Got to the track just after 9.30 but was able to get all the other sessions in.
Lent the CBR to Frosty for a few sessions, (God knows what I was thinking ???) who nicely smoothed out the edges. Was a little surprised to see it in the Wheelie sessions though !!!
Anyway had a great day, Manfeild really rocks and improved my cornering heaps.
Good to meet Slipstream, Sparky and Garry...
Just got home leaving Fielding at 8am this morning. The puncture repair was failing and had to nurse it carefully home. Off to get a new rear tyre tomorrow.

What can I say about yesterday that hasn't already been said.
I went out in the novice -warm up laps on the ol XJ and was having a heck of a job wresling the ol gal around the track. Ninjaboy Offered me the use of his CBR600 as long as i wasn't in his group (slower group) I snapped up the offer before he realised who he was loaning it to. I went out in the mid paced group I snuck out in the last slow session on the ol XJ and played around chasing Ninjaboy down and showing him what lines not to take.
Ninjaboy saved me bigtime. I now know why people so rave about CBR600's --what a great easy forgiving bike to ride.
It was fantastic meeting old freinds and putting faces to names.

September 4th September 4th September 4th
Good to meet more Kiwibikers.
Thanks Bartman for advice on bike preparation see you this Saturday. Your bike sounded a bit sick when you came in after the last expert session is it ok?
NinjaBoy great to put another face to a bike to a name. Frosty must owe you a few sessions on his SV I reacon. Your a generous man.
Glad to hear you where only taking it quietly Frosty give me a few more track sessions and I reacon I'll be getting on the pace.
Anyone thinking of doing September 4th I'd get in early and contact Chris as this is probably got lots of people booked already. Whatever your riding level is you wont have a problem as its very safe and well organised.

Very entertaining day. Circled Intermediate/Novice on the form as I didn't really know what they called a novice and what they called intermediate. So they put me in Novice. And I've got to admit it was a blast. I managed to find some good clear track, and didn't seem to have too much trouble with any of the more careful riders. Had some fun in the first session with a guy on a CBR1000RR. By the 2nd or 3rd session I was finding the novices were a little careful for me, but I didn't really want to move up a class because I knew if I got in with some quicker boys I'd be silly and try and keep up - and we all know where that leads. Only outbraked myself once or twice (about two laps before the VTR did) so quite glad to keep it the right way up and bring it home it one piece, which I think is the measure of a good day. My partner timed my last session for me, and the quickest on that session was a 28 with pretty consistent 30s traffic permitting.
Watching MD and Speedking... oh that was entertaining. Jimbo was bloody boring, he didn't engage in anywhere near as much front tyre saving. Dying to see Martin's video footage.
Big ups to the woman on the BMW, I don't know if she realised it but she was millimetres away from scraping her toes on almost every corner I saw her on!!

I would just like to say thanks to all those who turned up and made it a great day. Luckily it stayed dry all day, even if it wasn’t the warmest of days! Ray Clee will most likely be at the next day as well, so make sure you accost him and make use of his expertise. Unfortunately Tony Rees couldn’t make it on the day, so I hope you were all happy with his replacement, Brian Bernard!
The next date is at Manfeild once again on the 4th September. I know that Frosty is trying to get together some KB'ers for that date, so please speak to him. Failing that, ask me for a form.
Cheers
Chris

waas verrrrrrry entertaingin watching dion on his fist wheelie run with mark, he was busy changing lanes (*imagainary) overtaking someone an it was a tad windy :weird: :weird: wheelies in the wind - bike in the bin :weird: :weird: as tyou would know jimmy.
i was right down end of straight bit, got no idea how he didnt fuck it, both wheels smokin, if the chassis dont bend on bikes, it must of been under wicked strain, he was a wobbling like my gf b0bbies but didnt lose it, LEGEND,
much more entertaining than your average wheelie

Still think you're all a bunch of homos. Come to a real track (eg Ruapuna) when we next organise a big day. Then you'll see what a real race track looks like.
Faster than Manfield, twice as many turns. Lurvley

At least it's got some proper fast corners to test your nerves, unlike that meandering goat track you call a circuit.
