Eeek, Was just going to say give me the gas for the little Starlet and I will drive you down so you can ride up on Sat.

I would have suggested Rav4 but that thing would cost around $70 to get to Napier, and $70 back compaired to the startlet being humm prolly around $80 round trip.

Labour charge :

1 Pie + V per 150km

Oh Shit...

I just realised a flaw in that plan, I have booked the 6 in for a Service on Sat :/

change in route to get to Okoroire on Sunday. Out through leamington, past karapiro right down maungatautari road over the dam at the end, onto SH1, turn off SH29, turn right totmans road, then langlands road to Okoroire

and i dont think we have done the maungatautari road stretch before (well I haven't anyway)

Will make it a bit shorter and different to accommodate all. (Mr Dom, Mr Wysper, Mr CKAI maybe Mr Slofox etc)See you Sunday, leaving the Hotel 11 pm

Good turn out last night and welcome to the 2 new ladies (Rosemary and Jinny, I think?) hope to see you ride with us soon.

If you want a bit of a ride, we will be leaving around between 8 & 9 on sunday to go to taupo, so far 3 bikes confirmed, will be a cruizy ride. Not many out-of-the-way roads though, could pick you up at your shop on the way through?

Won't be at the shop - have a Sunday Slave to do that now...

Which roads you taking?

Depends on the other guys, but i was hoping to do it either way:

this route (http://www.motowhere.com/maps/route/Taupo-for-races)

The other guys don't know the roads (neither do i) but they probably care more about getting lost than i do hehe. I am just there for the roads, racing is secondary.

But it would be fun to go round the track as a passenger in the batty.

Leaving at that time be careful of the shady patches (prob doesnt need to be said). -5 degrees last night and the ice in the shady spots of the hotel carpark have only just finished melting now (11.10 am). One of the reasons the rides leave a little later than they did over the summer months.

Long term forecast looks great for Sunday (21st) so if anyone interested lets look at doing this route. leave Hotel at 11.00 (allows for frosts etc to dry out). Can meet at Hotel if $10 breakfast wanted at 9.45 and just talk some crap until 11.00 for those interested!!

I will try to make it for brekkie too.
Hope the weather is like it has been the last few days.
I was working in my singlet yesterday!!
Don't worry, I will wear more than just my singlet to brekkie :done::laugh:

5 of us left hams - meet up with about 30 riders from Auckland.

The Coro was clean and very little traffic, no cops, no problems, good ride
EDIT - seems it wasn't as good a ride for others behind us, sad to hear about the incident on the Kopu

I have been bleating on about ice for the last week, but this morning was something else again...
Went down south central waikato and traversed more patches of white frost than I have ever seen anywhere, including in and around Christchurch many years ago.
Taotaoroa Road was covered in the stuff anywhere the sun had not reached (this is 10am - 11.00am). Arapuni Road from Putaruru to Kihikihi was little better.
'twas a careful ride indeed (and bloody cold too for the first half anyway).
Anyone else have a similar experience?

Meet at Kingsgate Hotel Carpark for leaving time 11.00am - bit later than in the summer due to allowing a bit longer for the ice to melt. Cool ride Sunday, welcome to Kerry on his 73 Laverda (beautiful looking bike) and pity your mate was 2 hung over to ride. 5 of us went all the way down the west side of Karapiro onto SH1 then SH29 to Okoroire where every man and their dog and bike and MG or classic car was there (Warren and Claire joined us there). Had a coffee and upto Matamata for a bite to eat (the weather was fine!!!) and Warr led us back through Scotsman vally (I think). A great cruisey ride in mint weather!! C U Wednesday for those coming and I am out for this Sunday (heading to Napier to pick up Milans bike).

Yeah sorry dude, i couldn't get back to the forum before the morning, was a chaotic weekend. It ended up that we had a not-so-familiar rider on a track breed gsxr600 so we didn't go very far past 100km at all and we had to take the main highways :weep: black and white ice everywhere around taupo, beautiful ride though! had to stop a few times to pull over and put my hands on the exhaust!

Got a new diablo3 for the rear and it gripped pretty well on the ice. One of the other guys got crossed up in front of me  but pulled it back in so it was sweet, he was shitting kittens. He is a really experienced rider and our speed was pretty low (~30) on a soft right (75k corner) just goes to show that good tires at the right pressures are invaluable!

Taupo track day was cool (car), i was ballast for a few runs, we had an sti that spun a good few circles and just about took us out, was bloody awesome! My mate with the batty decided not to come because he was a little worried about the service condition of his car, and bruising it i think, but my mate with the escort went hard and took on an sti (spinner) and an evo (smoker) and won! (4wd + turbo + huge power + aircon + cd player vs worked 1600 sport '79 escort built for hillclimbs) bloody awesome! :2thumbsup

I went basically the same route as you but at about 2pm. There was STILL big patches of frost and black ice. It wasn't so bad out on Arapuni Rd, but Bucklands Rd was fucken nuts... there was an area of tight curves where the ice was so thick I could see the sheen from it. I think it was caused by the frost melting off the shrubs on the bank next to the road in late afternoon when they finally get some sun and flowing onto the road, only to freeze shortly after when the sun goes down. There had been grit laid aswell! I don't think I've ever speed up and slowed down so many times in one ride!

Awesome roads down that way .. especially Mangatoa Rd & Manganui Rd (would be near perfect if it didn't have 6km of loose stone gravel rd in the beginning of it)
No ice grit on the roads, awesome views, 40km of magic road and we only saw maybe 4 cars going either way.. We would have come back via the back road Paddy showed us (Piopio - Waitomo)but we had to be back early and i was pretty sure they would grit the hell out of those roads

Read back a bit further (or even the start). We tend to meet on Sundays at the Kingsgate Hotel Carpark at 11.00pm (winter) and 10.00 pm (summer). Rides in Summer are generally every week, winter is pretty much lesser numbers and weather dependent. There is also a Calander entry for every Wednesday where anywhere from 10-20 people turn up at the Te Rapa tavern 5.30ish onwards for the $7 burger and pint deal and to talk bikes etc. So come along and meet up! And yes, I did check on the bike's healing on the way to the doc today hehehe. It is doing well, It has had most of its parts replaced, they are just modifying a bit of the fairings for my frame sliders that are now wisely being installed :P, They need to buff out my hand marks on the tank still hehe other then that she is fine :)

Prolly get it out next week some time, I do not want it sitting outside the back as I think the rain is getting too it.

So when I get it back it should have had its first 1k service, new bits, and frame sliders :)

All I need to do now is get better so I can ride it without making myself worse!

Oh and a new helmet.

Hey there.
A few of us were expecting Sunday to be dampish so opted on a small outing this afternoon.
As it turned out the rain turned up as soon as we put our gear on so we had a 60k round trip poodle in the rain and stopped back at The Cook for a warm up.
Our 2 L plate riders did very well in not entirely ideal condition.
Was a good test of our waterproofs tho some found them err not ideal. Something about soggy bottoms !!

And when I made it back home I showed my bike some love, washed it and gave the chain some extra love as the wet riding seemed to have depleted its lubricant.

I am using my most bins wins leathers that already require the stitching fixed where the road had worn away hehe, Now my old HJC Helmet is officaly apart of the minibike gear hehe.

Still have not replaced the gloves, They have lived through 6? binnings in total so far. Doing well.

Might see how the fundage is looking this weekend, but I am in no hurry to get back on the road in winter to be perfectly honest. My tyres need one hell of a scrub from side to side, I need a good warm day, warm road clean twistys, learn the bike. I am not having much fun in the winter knowning I can not just throw her around like I did the Hyo. Take some time to learn it.

Very good!!! :) I attempted to adjust the preload on the bike but unable to notice anything by just sitting on it in the garage. I have softened it up so that it has a bit more stroke on the way up for my weight. Might help the back stay a bit more planted.

The front I am going to tie some cable tie's around the shiney parts of the forks and found out how much preload I can take off the front too.. but only really point in doing this when I have gotten used to the bike in the warmer weather. Else the adjustments now will not count in the summer..

You doing sag settings on your own??? To me, if you want to do it right, it's a two person job unless you have some cool way of doing it.

How much do you weigh mate? Generally bikes come out of the factory for riders who are around the 75kg mark. I would have thought yours would be ideal for this. Me on the other hand is a different story (bigger bones you see).

Unless you know what you're doing or make really little adjustments, you can really make your bike handle like a pig. I have a mate that experienced this first hand. I'll see if I can find a really good link about suspension tuning. It's by far the best I've seen.

In my opinion, you shouldn't have a need to have different settings for summer and winter. Not for road use any way.

Yeah just fine adjustment on the rear... cant even test it during winter.. not to the summer/nice roads style anyhow thats what I mean. I just moved it one notch down.. do not even notice the change.. it would be in MM, not cm! A good summer learning the bike will help more then changing too much too soon.

I would like to work out how much the front shocks are compressing but I would feel better testing it all out in Summer when the winter shit arse road factor is taking out of the mix hehe

Hi

Can you tell me a bit more about the Sunday rides? I am outside Hamilton but might like to come in for a ride around the Waikato sometimes. What is on this Sunday coming?

In winter, the ride leave from the Kingsgate at 11, if you get there earlier (9.45ish), Murray has organised a deal where you can get a hot brekkie for a tenner.

The ride was initally started for newer riders and is not a race. Roads are usually a mix of twisty and not so twisty so newer riders get a chance to build confidence and the more confident riders can still have a bit of fun and a fang.

Someone waits at turn offs and the faster guys don't mind if the have to wait an extra couple of minutes for the riders that are cruising or learning.

You are welcome to join us, keep an eye on the thread, especially while the weather is a bit iffy. The route is usually chosen on Wed nights at the pub!
Being a staunch family man I have yet to make one of those :blank:

depends on how slow you want to ride

Please excuse carver here, he has trouble understanding what these rides are about

He is annoyed we can have fun below the speed limit

These rides are as much about the people that go on them as the ride.

The grit on the Kawhia Road, there are 3 sections:

Intersection of Ngutunui Road & highway 31, 400m about before and 400m after, take it easy and stay in the wheel tracks.
Just after Te Kauri Lodge, signs up and 1800mm of it, okay in the wheel tracks.
The last patch is as you drop down to the harbour, signs up and about 700m mostly in mounds in the centre of the road.

Other wise the road is fine.:wari:

Sorry won't be able to make the pub or a Sunday ride this week may catch up next week.

Yeah we went and got some petrol and headed out Te kowhai? way (where Mr Rock had his burst) thinking to cut back and catch you at Raglan. Unfortunately Trina wasnt having to much fun being buffted around in the wind so was not a happy chappie. So we headed back.

Interestingly I had just replaced all the bulbs on my speedo and there was one missing in what looked like a warning (red) light so I put a new bulb in. Bloody thing lights like a Christmas tree when you hit 90kph exactly. Didn't matter what revs you were doing. Never seen this before a a real PITA. so taking it apart again and taking the bulb out!

Oww :P I will not be making an apperence Wednesday night (Other prioritys) but I am VERY kean to get riding on Sunday with you guys :)

Riding in the Wind + Rain out Te Awamutu plus successfully navigating 7 moist and cold roundabouts, AND doing is smoother is setting my confidence back in place, and wow I ride differently now... and like Admin said.. smoother.. and its more enjoyable.. and it is! :headbang:

Smooth is good, regardless of speed. On the way back over the divi on sunday I was practicing waving from left to right corners without being on the seat, supported by the pegs and leaning with my knee on the tank, i don't know if i was going faster or slower than before but it was pure magic.

Who's admin?

Lol, Sorry I ment, Adam. hehe You!

I used to ride on the pegs on the Hyo, but after watching the vids closely I can see a slight wobble from left to right, got better towards the end and smoothed up a bit but traded that :P, It really does help to stabilize the bike but can mean a very bad highside if it was to so happen :/. When I first got the R6 I did it a we bit from time to time but I want to now see what style naturaly forms with this bike. The Hyo I learnt after riding upright like a n00b that hanging off that seat really did make that bike do what I wanted it to do, and it was happy to comply.

Weather for Sunday looks great!, I might get a tail bag before then so I can stick some warm cloths in there just incase.

The transfer is a tricky point and i mean "weight off the seat" not standing full-leg length

Depending on how you adapt to the bike, you will probably find you can lean out allot more on the r6 because of the turning mass of the engine it will be less inclined to move suddenly (compared to the 250) the better road contact will help too.

Admin pfft i aint no office lady although i'm told that i don't look too bad in a skirt

How'd you get it on USB and how big is it? I might be keen although I don't know how I'll be able to sit and watch it in front of the computer. I might see if I can work it on the TV.
