Got the 250 back finally. So now the 400 is in getting work done

Will see if Marie wants to head out. She hasn't ridden for months though so might not be the best idea to send her on SH22!

Probably the best part of SH22 is south from Heatheringto road. I would say Heatheringto road may be the bigger challenge and you know we will always look after her. Good to see you got the bikes up and going again!

Some reason the Calendar is not responding as it should and Trina's having trouble registering and I tried to edit and it bounced back????

Leave Ham at 10.30 from Kingsgate Hotel Hamilton head up backroad to Huntly, do Heatherington road to SH22 south from there to Waingaro and through to Raglan for lunch in the beer garden of the big white hotel on the main street then back to Hams - Not a huge ride but a fun one.

We were about to leave but the fucking 250 won't start. Think a wire has gone on the kill switch. Can't get in there because the head of the scew has be stripped.

I am pissed off. Have spent over $1000 getting this POS fixed and it still won't run.

One of the strangest LOR rides we have had. It seems with the colder weather cars don't need to look anymore. Trina nearly wiped out entering Ngarawahia from Kowhai way with 5 bikes going past a car just comes from the intersection on the left doesnt look and straight across. Drivers door lined up and fishtail and stopped just short of car who merrily went on there way. Nanahc a slow off and drop on the side of the road heading to Raglan, little bit of damage and very muddy gear. Nigel came and went. Insominia made a re-appearence and good to see him. I believe Milan had another car pull out in front as we did on the way back at Whatawhata. Bloody cold and yet Raggers was warm. 9 bikes in total and pretty good roads - All good fun but watch out for those cars

One of the strangest LOR rides we have had..............................................

not too mention the suicidal sparrow that t-boned my ankle early in the ride , and the hawk & pheasant that trina nearly mowed down. Certainly one of our more eventful outings...............

The idiot that pulled out of bridal veil falls rd, right in front of me, just did not see me , until after I had given him the one finger salute, as I passed his drivers door on my side of the road, under braking!! Thank god for a little spidey sense's, a little experience and watching for front wheels turning !! Close enough , but not too much of a sphincter clenching moment - have had worse self induced ones

Doesn't look so bad with all the mud and grass pulled out of EVERWHERE :msn-wink: Maybe a pic of the riding gear would let everyone know you really did go 'off-road' LOL

All jokes aside, glad it was just a minor lapse and that no major damage to bike or person resulted - apart from that thing called pride.

HAHA yeah the old pride is feeling a bit tender. :violin: i believe mikey has some photos of my muddy gear, havent seen them yet, maybe he can post them for us to have a laugh at. still trying to get it all out of my gear, trying to wash it off has just seemed to soak it into it

But all an all its all good, i was able to walk away and ride away so i cant complain, hopefully its lesson learned and ill be more careful in the future.

If the insurance company write it off may be worth buying back as fairings could be plastic wielded, new stickers etc....

The shop dosnt seem to think its to bad and they recon its in mint nick so i doubt it will be written off, i wont let them lol.
As for what happened, im not really sure now, i think i lost sight of where the corner was going so thought i was going in to hot so i braked to slow down a bit and then lean in but the rear locked up and i was skidding away and by the time i got it straightened up i was heading off the road and not long after hitting the grass it went down. shouldnt have brake, should have just leaned it over but i didnt think i would make it.

My wife and I are both insured with SWANN, when she had a nasty accident on her first bike they were fantastic.
Like all insurance companies they will try to get out of things like excess but stay on top of them and they will perform well.
All our dealings with them were professional, courteous and productive.
We are still both insured with them and these days both our bikes are classed as classics, so it costs less and as and added bonus our gear and the gear of any pillions is insured for up to $1500.00 for the pillion and up to $3000.00 for ours.
Any off that you can walk away from is a good one and the learning is invaluable, talking about any sort of action / reaction is ok but the best thing is to go out with an experienced rider/trainer and let them show you(demonstrate) what they are saying, you get it much faster that way and it sticks.
Hope you're back on the road soon.

Your ones for a ZX6 are around $500 by the looks of it

Plus the $185 shipping lol. yeah ive already been looking around just incase. it just seems ridiculous the idea of writing off a bike like that over some bits of plastic. but that can be the way of things. thanks anyway for the link.

Yeh I recon ..... but then the insurance companies seem to look at the cost of Genuine Farings I think ... when in a lot of cases the aftermarket ones are a fraction of the price and dont look too much different.

Yet at same time they sometimes rebuild a bike when one would be positive its gonna be written off ...... think sometimes they toss a dice and decide from the dice roll

Yeah. Bit of the old "early onset male pattern baldness" involved there for sure.

I like this bit..."these sections on SH23 will be attended to within the next couple of weeks, when suitable weather opportunities present themselves. "

Like January 2013. Could be a loooooooong wait...

I do like that asphaltic concrete bit though. Pity it hasn't been dry for the past month.

It's frustrating when you are not from this area. Was really hoping to catch up to the lead 4 but they smoked us off too fast. But oh yeah for sure was a great ride. Only the last bit was windy for me .. some extreme landscapes .. menacing when coming around a corner and seeing such a long way down.. (don't look there.. but it's SOOOO FAR DOWN !!! ) .. Fun ! Managed to hit 260km on the Buell, and still hadn't hit reserve. Stopped at Mercer Mobil, 11.5 litres for that distance. Not too bad.

Well i got my quote to fix the bike, $3883 and thats repairing the fairings not replacing them, they put things on i hadnt even thought of, genuine parts are filthy expensive, i priced up doing it my self with some nicer aftermarket parts
and could do it for $1301 give or take a couple of hundred for the fairings. still waiting to hear from the assessor.

Turns out my head bearing is f&*$ed which maybe one of the reasons i havent felt comfortable leaning it over to much, VTNZ just passed it for a warrant in May, dont know how fast they can go away but knowing what i know now about them its been like that for a while, was just stupid and doubted myself so i didnt get it checked.
Live and learn.

Was really hoping to catch up to the lead 4 but they smoked us off too fast.

You mean "we got caught at the lights". Something we need to be aware of as generally when we have "lost" someone its usually within Hamilton. Route was via Te Kowhai so we should have turned off at the Harvey Normans roundabout but since no-one waited at the roundabout and a couple of bikes went stright through we followed and turned off at Ngarawahia to meet up at the Glenn Murray intersection, as planned. Waited there for you and again in Waiuku where we stopped for a bite to eat and coffee and a big beer for Nigel.

A good days ride 320km and bloody cold coming back!! 12 bikes left for the ride - good numbers and again good to see faces that have riden with us in the past

(don't look there.. but it's SOOOO FAR DOWN !!! ) .. Fun ! Was nearly gonna turn around when I saw you all but my warmth was depleting and so was the petrol .. switched on reserve just before Waiuku coming back.

I had a bit of a laugh when we passed you when we were nearly there. Mighty impressive that you cruised all the way out there to catch up haha. It certainly was a bit nippy in places.

Rule of thumb, never try and catch up. Slow down and catch the people behind you. That way you'll have at least one other person to say "stuff it, lets go to the pub in Dargaville instead" :)

Gotta say, we stopped at EVERY pub on the way up looking for you too. Nigel was wobbling a bit by the end of it. Bloody poms, they just can't handle their cold beer!

We sorted it in the end. I was just happy that the Ngaruawahia to Huntly road wasn't as foggy as the day before!

I was feeling it by the time we got home and the tinted visor was pretty much at the end of it's usefulness. I was getting worried when I started seeing my headlight on the road. That's pretty much the sign that you should have a clear one on.

Ride if you wanna ride. Just be prepared to pay the fine if you get caught. What is is? $200 or $150 (+ the demerits).

Should this thread be renamed to "Laxed out pub crawls"???

Only when we're waiting/looking for someone. I think it's good dedication on our part. We're like the Marines...no one gets left behind or we're drunk trying ;)

Disclaimer: LOR does not endorse or condone riding while under the influence of any substance that can affect your ability to balance your bike. Doing so may lead to public ridicule and having to ride in nothing but a pink cape.

It's also just plain silly.

It's only the warrant of fitness that really matters and even then more that it is in a warrantable condition than even actually having a warrant.

Luckily the ACC still pays out for medical treatment too even if we haven't paid the levy!

Even with the WOF, if it didn't cause the accident, it's irrelevant BUT of course Insurance Companies being insurance companies some will use that to not pay out. There are some good ones out there. And if you're with a broker they'll argue for ya.

while at the clubrooms last night the girls suggested maybe a wee pootle out for lunch on Sunday as
Sunday 8
Fine with southerly breezes.

So I have to work Saturday and Sunday but should be able to get away by noon on the Sunday so how about a ride out Te Pahu road, Pirongia, te Awamutu, over the hill (Pokuru Road) and lunch at the cafe in the middle of Otorohanga (the big one that does sandwiches, pies etc etc meals etc) and then back anyway you like. Nice easy 150-175 km ride with some good roads.

So from now on any posts about racing should be posted in the Racing forum, any posts about crashing, juvenile heroics, waving your arse at the law, pissing contests etc can be posted in PD. Basically if it's not about a relaxed ride or socializing around the Hamilton area it doesn't belong in this thread.

The Moderators will be keeping a close on this thread from now on.

I know a bit about that area, I have done a bit of work there between 2007-2011

All the soil there is fill from rototuna area, pembertons dumped it there as they had a go at covering over the wetlands.
It was super soft through there! The houses wont move because of the massive piles they sit on.
The sewer for that area is fucking deep and is all fucked.
Each house has a private pump station because of the ground fall fucking up the levels.

We went to look for house around that area because we are upgrading (downgrading to you royalty-blood readers) and the first sign of trouble was the manhole covers that seem to rise above cracked concrete. Then the 2nd sign was the cracked drive ways. The third sign is a new build with cobble stones with no sign of concrete.

there were more signs than the 2nd coming of Christ - so I decided to do due diligence and didnt have to look far.

Oh yes, Tennis Land is an interesting area. I've did a few jobs there years back when it was still developing (Farnborough was still split in 2) and there was some shocking builders in the area. Some stuff on the ridgeline is alright but the flats are fun. There's still some decent properties their that are alright though.

BUT, there is actually a crap load of areas in Hamilton like that. It's the nature of the area. A good developer can sort it out. Others obviously don't care. To be honest, it comes down to the size of the area. A big area, i.e. Huntington, the developer has to do things properly since they have years and years of future sales and they can't afford to have previous purchasers bitching and stopping new purchasers.

Smaller developments can get away with a lot more if they're on to it and develop all their sites quickly.

Nature of the beast unfortunately.

Confuses me to? you would think that the said rider or riders would have thought "wheres the bikes in front that just left??" I mean Pirongia is a long main street and bikes don't just disappear.

Or maybe they were just toooo laxed out and were riding with eyes closed???

Made for an interesting ride anyway and hope the guys (and girl) that went home back over the hill enjoyed the ride.

It is funny in a comical way you have to admit. Said rider I bet has figured out a few things and even had the responsibility of leading the pack which not many get to do due to the "I might hold up people".

After a round is shouted by all those directly and not directly involved we can move on ;)

The more I think about it, the more I actually find it bloody funny...

"Shit, those 5 riders in front must have taken off doing 200km/h. Either that, or there were beamed up by Clingon's. Yeah that'll be it. It is now my duty to make sure the group get to the destination without further loses. God I hope I don't get beamed up. I don't have my good underwear on"

Jeez the weeknds looking good again

Saturday 14 Fine spells. Northerlies developing.
Sunday 15 Cloudy periods. Northerlies

I thought we could leave the carpark - go past reception, at the road TURN RIGHT go to the set of lights TURN LEFT WHEN ARROW POINTING LEFT GOES GREEN. Ride down Te Rapa straight heading North. Go through set of lights with Bunnings on your right. At the race course entrance (ON YOUR LEFT) TURN RIGHT ( where theres a big waikato can on a pole) and stop there for a quiet bevie and something to eat.

Anyone think they can follow the route or keen. Milan will lead and I will tail end charlie so no-one gets lost.
:killingme:killingme:killingme

Will discuss possibilities of a wee sunday ride at clubrooms tomorrow. I think this time of year 200kms max is about right

He's come to realise that it's a sports bar and nothing else. All you have to do is look at how many people frequent the place. If there was hardly anyone going there, then yeah, change it up. But it's plain stupidity to change something that's working so well.

I have been told it will be a new build and pretty much at the right hand end are of the main staright at the racecourse. so heading north at the roundabout near the current pub you would take a left and then another left. No main road frontage and would need to keep current locals because it won't be a pub that can advertise to and have drive past traffic

Haven't been to the clubrooms as yet. Problem for me is that Wednesday night is my night with the kids so unfortunately the timing is all wrong. Been to one or two "Laxed out rides" tho I think they were just members going on their own while there wasn't anything official planned in the calendar. And yes, we have met once at the Cambridge Toy run about 2 years ago. you turned up on your cruiser and parked right next to my old GS1100 BMW. We had a wee chat. Went to Boyds the other day to check out helmets before the big sale. Tried on an XR1100 as it would be on sale for $500. Fit was tight but felt good. Got to the sale just before 12 and was the first one in so went straight to the Shoei Helmets. Tried the XR1100 in the same size but this one felt different. More pressure points.

Had a look at the HJC helmets and tried on the R-PHA 10. Fit was perfect and incredibly light. With an extra tinted visor, pinlock insert and some rain repellent for the visor I couldn't say no. $400 so cheaper than the Shoei. Marie probably won't be too happy with me but who cares :bleh:

Turns out it was my visor that was wrong as the pinlock holes were in the wrong place so the insert wouldn't fit properly. Stole one of the visors off another helmet there. Still not convinced the insert is sealing against the visor though. Will have to test it tomorrow.

That was mum's. We're too upmarket for HJC now ;) When I put the old man's one on I wasn't sure it was sealed properly either. Got him to put it on, stuffed a towel around the bottom and told him to breath like a dirty old man on viagra. Didn't fog so sorted.

You looked at turning the pins around? Tighten it up a bit?

Was the visor not on the helmet though? Seems weird that it was wrong.

I am wrapped that we have a Super 15 final in Hamilton. Unfortunately that result means that Heather and I will now be helping out at the Stadium on Saturday night instead of dinning out with all you good people. The Rotary club that I belong to has contract with Montana catering to run Hospitality Tents a the Stadium. We will be very busy serving up very expensive beer to all the thirsty punters. Enjoy Saturday night.

We will see if we can move the time for dining forward a little due to the final being on. perhaps if we meet 6.00ish at the Cook and then head over as soon as most have arrived. Means we may get out and across to the Eastside to watch the 2nd half (for those that want to???).

Do we have an idea of what time you want to get to the restaurant if we're going straight there? More for a backup plan then anything. Best be prepared though.

Saturday 11 Areas of morning cloud or fog, then fine breaks. Rain developing during the evening. Northeasterlies gradually freshening.
Sunday 12 Rain, easing to a few showers during the morning with winds turning lighter northerly.
Monday 13 Rain or showers. Light winds.

Talk at clubrooms last night was "its about time for a ride"
Sunday forecast does not look good so maybe a decision will be made on the day.

If anyone interested and weather looks OK meet at the Kingsgate Hotel Carpark at 11.00 am and might go for a pootle to Okoroire.

No promises but if anyones keen turn up and see if anyones there. Could be a good afternoon to spend at the clubrooms????

On a more serious note, now I have 6F - im naturally after a slightly bigger cruiser type bike, less than a 600cc due to rego costs. My current sights are on a honda shadow 400cc buts its in the south island. so am looking for something similar like a drag star, bollyvard etc.

Even if theres something at a shop - which suits me better 'cause then i can trade in the mighty (but trusty) hyo.

Is there much of a power difference from 250cc (mine screams on 8k rpm doing a wopping 110km) to a 400cc?

Dont compromise capacity for what you really want, realistically you are talking around 2 bucks a week difference in rego cost. Have you thought of trying something different from a cruiser? Not necessarily full on sports either.

Totally with you on that one. No point missing out on something you're gonna love riding just because some prick says it's too "dangerous" and charges you accordingly. If didn't have the daytona because of the rego...no, it's just not worth thinking about:weep:

To be honest, I pay less rego now since they put it up over a year then before. It just made me more realistic as to when I actually ride.

Go for a ride on what you really want, then work backwards. If you feel a 400 is little difference to a 600+, there's your answer.

Just checked and since i put the rego on hold for winter, I will now be "in front" in the event of a ticket (havent figured in the cost of the points but currently not a concern)

Good wee ride on Sunday down to Okoroire - pretty much headed staright down there with 3 of us riding, Nigel, Neville and myself (bunch of softies you lot). Got a little wet but not to bad. Had a nice bite to eat and waited for rain to stop and headed back. Pretty much as soon as we left it stopped raining and roads were dry all the way home, so we had a wee blast through Walton on the way back and a fun ride home. 1400cc's are definately faster than 750cc and Nigel looks a lot smaller from a long way back.

Roll on a fine weekend!!!!
