Well, well, well, it can't all stay on tour Murray - but the odd rumour might come out! All in all it really was a fantastic weekend - perfect weather, people, scenery and most roads were good with a few distractions like horses and dead goats but nothing bad happened and apart from two of us, all stayed on the seal the whole way! I have a few pics to put up once I work out how to get them on here (technologically challenged).
Sorry Lonestar Napier for driving the other customers away on Saturday night but we really were having a great time! Sorry about all the laughter and spilt drink!
Thanks Masonic Hotel in Napier for having us - well recommended place to stay (awesome carpet aye Murray and plenty of history there) and secure garage bike parking for only $10.
Big big ride up from Napier to Waihou Bay on Sunday but lots of stops on the way, and the pub we stayed at was a very welcome sight when we got there. Thanks to Waihou Bay for staying open for us to party and sorry if we kept you up late. A few sore heads on Monday morning but the cooked brekkies were awesome!
A fun time on bikes had by all. I feel so lucky to be able to be living such a wonderful dream. Thanks Mils for organising it. The goat did make it back! Go Jacko! And White Is didn't blow its .... on us!
Bring on the next ride guys!

Sounds like a good 'un:Punk:. I was going to get you guys a police escort when you were in Napier from a mate who rides (first I was gonna get him to scare ya's ;) ) but got tied up with ripping plants and buildings down. Would have been a Kodak moment!
In the interests of research, how much do you guys reckon it would have roughly cost all up? Young families = plan for this type of stuff for the future. Unless you're crossing the border to the Mother Island, a trip like this would be roughly the same no matter where you go.

I put $116 (not all at once!) worth of 95/96 in my 650cc bike (and have a bit left after 1250km), $100 on 2 nights shared accommodation, and I'm too ashamed to say how much on food and drink but its fair to say my bike is cheaper to run than I am . So if you don't drink anything - its not too bad price-wise to have such a fantastic time :woohoo:

At the Masonic we got a couple of handles in before Happy Hour finished ( $5 then back to 7$ :shit: ) then Murray found the jugs for $13 which worked out to 2 1/2 handles per jug :woohoo: :drinknsin @ Waihau Bay Lodge handles are $5 & I heard later on in the night some people got $5 dbles of top shelf :sick: which ran out when the plug got pulled on the jukebox  hence the slow start the next morning
My bill for the weekend worked out to $72.50 for both nights accommadation & spent $150-180 on petrol for 1324km's, dinner on Sat night was $7 & Sun was $22 with Breaky @$11.....

I lived up there for ten years so got to know those roads well. Which is how I met this guy whose funeral it is. Good friend back then. He's been sick for a while - we knew he wouldn't last long.
Doubt I'll have time to venture upwards.

I just spent eight of the last fourteen hours sitting on the back of The Vixen, wending my way to Dargaville and back. I bet my bum has right angle notch shaped kinks in it now...
Pretty rough ride really. Left at 5.00am thinking I might get some dry road to start with. But the rain started at 5 to 5, just as I was togged up...then further up it pissed down. Auckland motorway at 6.15am was still crazy but didn't stop at all.
North Shore and up to Brynderwyn, the cloud was on the ground, roads were wet and traffic was insane - fucking great truck and trailer units on those Narrow Roads to the Deep North. Lots more passing lanes than when I lived up there but still damn slow with the weather. Oh and the wind was blowing like hell as well.
Heading west of Maungaturoto, I could see the western arch ahead and once onto the Ruawai (pronounced "ROO WHY" by locals) flats, rain stopped.
Headed back in afternoon. Dry nearly all the way. But again traffic totally clogging that Northern highway - lucky to make 90km/hr without being a loony. Auckland was pretty rush hour (4.30pm) but survived it. Met heavy rain again once I hit Ngaruawahia. Again, really heavy wind gusts in Northland. I don't mind riding in windy conditions - in fact I quite like it - but there was one gust on the ROOWHY flats coming back that shunted us right across the lane. Never had that before.
One good outcome of the slower than usual pace is the fuel consumption which was about 12% better than usual...dunno why that should be...

I can't outdo Slofox's gripping tale of his harrowing commute, but it's time for me to cough up the tracks I recorded on the East Cape ride. If for no other reason than to partially recompense those I held up by fiddling with my alfresco charging circuit in a series of semi-successful attempts to keep the phone alive enough to record said track.
Day 1, yes I forgot to turn the bloody thing on until the first stop. The blank bit was Tuikaramea Rd, out to Ngahinapouri, then across Te Awamutu/Kihikihi and out Arapuni Rd to the spectacular Owairaka valley. Zig, zag before a last-moment right bend saves us from Mangakino and drops us into the loving arms of Whakamaru.
http://goo.gl/maps/6AUxa
Ok, look at map if you want to see where we (or, at least, I) went after that. Lake, trees, glipses of the mountains, all painfully pretty. Turangi, less so, but nature calls. More spectacle and a good pace to the next stop at Waiouru to fill up on sugar, salt, fat and quick-digesting carbs and to top up the bikes. No trouble finding the turn-offs that Milan described so carefully in the briefings and vroom vroom over Gentle Annie we go. Down to the expressway and cruise on up towards the waterfront. Stop and look at maps [Where's the bloody hotel? Dunno mate, let's try down there], park the bikes wander about on foot, where there hell is everyone, sod it, into the bar, come back out and finally remember to turn off the track. At which point everyone turns up with no bits missing! Choice day!

LOR have just been there, road conditions better on the west side of east coast, road melting from midday on if weather stays the same as what we have had lately, gentle annie in good nick with little grit here & there ( watch out for the last 20km heading into taihape, road dodgy in parts ) Top10 holiday parks are cheap for a cabin, better chance of petrol at Waihau bay than Te araroa, next stop Tolaga bay for gas..... fireblade on Tiniroto rd :niceone: must do

I'll have to pass on this one Al - used all me money on gas for the funeral run yesterday.
Also had a relay go tits up on the way home - the one that powers the distributiion block - from which run things like GPS and RD. Had to unplug both. The relay kept switching on and off all the time causing all sorts of grief.
Pulled the old one out this morning - yep, it's fucked all right. Seems under the seat is not as dry a spot as I had believed. The insides of the relay were a mess. I'm amazed it still functioned at all being full of rust and crap. Must have been like that a long time.
Still, new relay from Jaycars for $11.00 and all is go again. This time I have sealed around the lid of the relay with silicone. Might keep it drier. Maybe.

Is it recommended to do the coast road instead of opotiki-gisborne down the middle? What are the distances between fuel stops on the coast? I'm looking at doing the same ride as Damantis next week but don't know about fuel range (except after Taihape I'll head towards taumaranui and head to welly via worlds forgotten highway). cheers.

jump on google maps or motowhere.com which will give you km's so you can work out route, through the Waioeka gorge or around the coast either is awesome  West to east, petrol available at Waihau Bay 91 & 95, Te araroa 91 only I think but opening hours a bit  phone them before hand, ruatoria if your keen :shit: Tokomaru bay 91 only & eft pos or credit card only, Tolaga bay 91 & 95 available, from memory Waihau bay to Tolaga bay is @173km

Thought I might go up to Hampton Downs for a looksie either Sat or Sunday morning from Hams via highway 22 to Mercer. Either day is good for me so if anyone is keen to make a group ride of it then gimme a yell. Prefer Saturday as am gagging to get on the bike but Sunday could also be the go.

Playday (I think). A lot of shinangans and free entry for spectators. It's pretty much a display day. Superkarts are gonna be blasting around. If I wasn't prior booked I would have been in.

Yeah as mentioned above, Playdays - Big Bike Day Out, running Saturday and Sunday with trackdays on both days along with trade stalls and a bbq/band on the Saturday night and Camping on site allowed also. Should be a good event.

Anyone have any info on the Ulyses Toy Run? Google (What's on Hamilton) says there is one tomorrow (24th) but the Ulyses site, and Cambridge site (which I would be more inclined to trust?) says 3rd of March (next Sunday). 9:30am (leave at 11) Alpha street Cambridge to Garden place (at 1pm).

I can confirm that Toy run is next Sunday 3 March, as set out in the Ulysses web site . Tomorrow Ulysses has a run down towards New Plymouth as set out on their web site.
I suggest that you should be out at Cambridge at about 10 am The Auckland drill team will have a demonstration.

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT I did get up to the BIKESBBQBLUES in Takapuna, hit rain at the Bombays and rained all the way to the Harbor Bridge and then was just a light drizzle at the event venue, then the sun came out just before start time and turned into a glorious day.
I chatted to the organizer and he said the numbers were down this year (possibly cos it rained near the start, and because there appeared to be a lot of other events happening) But still, it looked to be a reasonable crowd there.
There was a pretty good range of bike makes and models, and a couple that were aaahhhmmmmm different.:weird:
I roughly counted around 200 bikes on show, a 'mean ass' gorgeous chopper won the top bike.
Haven't heard how much was raised as yet.
but the event was well organized and ran like clockwork.... well done.

Well, I have a ticket that I won and aren't going to use anymore if one of you wants it? It's a bit of a full on weekend and I wanted to go with Brooke but she's booked up on both days. Was going to head up with someone but thought I'd might as well share the love instead  Just let me know. Personally, I'd like someone that hasn't/wouldn't normally go to use it but at the end of the day I want it used. And if you haven't been before, stand at turn 4 (corner before the big dipper hairpin) and get up close and personal - unless that put a bloody tent there. That's the spot that got me hooked.
As for pricing, it does just say $25 for the two days for a adult on the ticket. Surely they'd have a single day pricing though. Probably $15.

I saw that... it was something I was worried about. That weather system has been a bit volitile, so they keep changing the prediction about Sunday. Last look I had it looked light but that could easily change. Still at two days out the predictions start getting closer to the truth.

Looking at Met Service's three day rain forecast just now, it looks as though the middle of Sunday is about when it turns to custard...might get in an early morning ride still. Maybe.

I like metvuw.com It take a little grey matter, but give you a better idea of what to expect. It looks like the pink stuff is over the waikato most of sunday, so it will be a craps shoot all day.

Went Whatawhata, Pirongi, Otorohanga, back via Ouruwhero Road, Pokuru Road to Te A and then home via Paterangi Rd.
Not much traffic, no LEO's, dry road, not too many new patches of seal. All made for an "interesting" ride...

We were both turning left onto Te rapa on the free turn. She was looking right and thought I was already gone. She had insurance so that part all sorted. They will pay out no matter what. Bike doesn't look to bad, bent rear fender and broken lights. but It was in gear and it lurched forward. i rode it back to Hamilton Motorcycle centre but it made funny noises. They will asses it next week and advise the insurance company. Will know next week. i am ok, didnt fall off

I personally never give a flying fuck in they dont have insurance, in fact I prefer it if they didnt, it means they personally get reamed thoroughly by my insurance company and may remember the lesson a little longer. :buggerd: (This of course on the proviso that the rider is comprehensively insured)

Don't quote me but I believe you get a playing card at start, then get informed of next stop to go to at your own pace, route. There you get another card and another destination.
Eventually after 5 or so stops you end up back at the start or another end point and compare your hand of cards.

Yes, watch out for young pregnant women coming up hill on a medium bend having morning sickness out a car window and drifting onto your side of the road and clipping you in the middle/left of your lane.
At least they built them old bikes strong so surprisingly little damage - mirror, indicators, engine gaurd (both sides) and on right side guard pushed into the rotor cover and right hand exhaust header

Anyone is welcome to join us if you are not too embarrassed to be seen with a bunch of Spyders (a web??).

A ride around a few of the Waikato boutique cheese makers. Beginning at Boyd Motorcycles, Hamilton.
Leave Boyd's at 0930 sharp.
1050 ~ 1130 Arapuni Swing Bridge and/or have a coffee at Rhubarb Cafe.
1145 ~ 1215 Over the Moon Cheese Putaruru to sample cheeses in their tasting room and maybe buy some to take home.
1230 ~ 1330 Lunch at the Okoroire Hotel.
1400 ~ 1415 Kaimai Cheese Company (a shadow of its former self, no longer making cheese on site).
1515 ~ 1600 The Cheese Barn at Matatoki for afternoon coffee and maybe a Ploughman's Platter (my favourite). The plan is for riders to travel home independently from here.
If you want to see a map and riding directions please email me at john.jennings@farmside.co.nz with your request and I'll send it through to you. I haven't be able to work out how to put a link to my Google route plan on here yet. I'll also have plenty of printed copies at the start of the ride.
Please make sure that you have a full tank of fuel at the start as the total journey is around 220km. Fuel stops at Putaruru, where there are BP, Z and Challenge gas stations. It's another 117km to Matatoki, with Mobil 5km up the road.
