What a fantastic weekend of racing.

I left Auckland on wed to combine work with pleasure as I called on customers for the rest of the week all the way down to end up in Taupo on Friday...seems having a hot race bike being towed behind my co car is a great selling tool...heheh

Arrived at the track nice and early to set up in Shed 27 with Jamie R, Darrin H, BJ, the Merkels and a few others...I was a little apprehensive as I had not ridden since the final round of PMCC about a month earlier...feeling a tad rusty.

Rain! I was with every other rider there that day in deep discussion on tire choice and was finally convinced Wets were the go and thank goodness for that decision. First practice I went out not really realizing it was a qualifying session and pottered around like a nana getting used to the bike in the wet again. I was changing lines in just about every lap seeing what lines had more grip than others and making mental notes as to the grip level at various points around the track. Came in and was laughing to find out I had qualified in 10th! hehehe...everyone else appeared to be in 'nana' mode too!

Same really for 600SS qualifying, I was really just circulating and never really felt like I got any clean laps in but still qualified in 9th so was happy there...to be honest I was a little concerned at Scuzme's 6th on the grid...seems he likes to swim around Taupo!

Superbikes race one.

Setting up on the grid was a dog’s bollocks event...people were all over the show so learning from a previous race with a similar mucked up grid I made sure I went to approximately where I should have been. I waited to see if anyone was going to come and sort out the mess but nobody did so I got my head into race mode. Lights go I'm off....7th into the first corner what a great start!!! I was really keen to get the inside line in which I did...made it cleanly around T1 and T2 so I was on. the next few laps I lost a couple of places and then regained them an moved into 6th place for the final lap...I was going hard sliding a bit more than usual and had a big moment entering the back straight with my left knee on the ground and having the rear step out about a foot, followed by my front....managed to hang on and head down accelerate hard down the back straight...unfortunately I was overtaken again by Adrian Cox on the inside of the left at the end of the straight and he held it to the line with some excellent defensive lines to grab the 6th placing off me....stoked with a 7th in F1!

part 2

Race one F2
This was the one I wanted to do well in. I was 2nd into the first corner with two other riders! haha...we were three abreast and I was the meat in the middle. I was really close to the bike on the inside and decided to try stand my bike up slightly to give him more room but little to my knowledge at this stage BJ was around the outside leaning on my bike so I couldn't go anywhere. I thought at this point "Fuck it...this is my corner" so I head down elbows out just like the two next to me....ended up 3rd into the second corner.....This was my best start EVER! Game on....never have I been in front of BJ in a race so it was on like donkey kong! (I have all this action on video I will be posting soon....you get to see BJ lying on the side of my bike...yehhhaaaaa!) I stayed in 3rd position for the first lap until the last corner where BJ took the inside line while I went through the middle of the grid lines and managed to take me on the left. I cocked up my line into turn 2 and the three in front got the jump on me for the rest of the race until Brian wood crashed on turn 9. I saw the red flag at the end of the back straight and went into the pits thinking I had a 3rd position finish 3rd only to find out due to the rule of going back a lap Brian still finished in 2nd despite crashing...oh well, 4th...I'm stoked with that result!

Superbikes Race two is one I wish to forget...I was going great until I cocked up a gear change after turn 9 two laps in a row and each time two bikes got past...had I not done this I most likely would have finished in or around 5th position which would have been major buzz...oh well, my mistakes...only me to blame! That’s racing I guess.

F2 Race two

Once again I was really pleased with my start and the race was pretty uneventful. It was really dry and I was running new tires I had never tried before as I wasn't keen on putting on slicks as I wasn't 100% certain it wasn't going to rain again so Jamie R leant me some of his fandango Dunlop’s 200 rears! Very different than the METZELER tires I must say...I'm nether convince nor disappointed with them....they were just different! Managed to hang onto 5th position just behind Scott Moir so was reasonably pleased with that!

Overall the race weekend was more than I expected...I'm currently in 4th place for the series in F2 and 7th in the series for F1....

I need to say a massive thanks to my new sponsors who without I would never be able to race....fact! REDLINE track days have come to my aid with sponsorship...thanks Darrin, I hope your pleased with my results so far! REFLECTIONS MOTORCYCLE REFINISHERS...Willem has taken a chance with me and has decided to sponsor this nOObe with the belief I will make something of it! He was responsible for the new tiger ED Hardy inspired paint job on my bike making it appear like it should be roaming the African Desert hunting wilder beast! Ed Hardy are dipping their toes a bit into road racing and have recently opened a clothing store in Newmarket...go check em out, they have some wicked gear!!! AUTOBLAST sandblast vehicles and small industrial steel jobs...if you need some blasting done go contact Dave on the north shore here (http://www.autoblast.org/)

I need to thank Domini for putting up with me always talking about racing and coming along to my meeting helping out in the pits, giving up her weekend for my passion! I'm soooooo please with the results this weekend....Manfield here I come! :niceone:

Moving up in leaps and bounds Marcus, really good to see the improvements each time you go out there, there was a great buzz in our shed mate and an exiting atmosphere, lets hope it rains for round two, for my sake!
Also good to see you aquiring a bit of a following as far as sponsers are concerned, it just goes to show that if you are keen and want it enough you can get them, you just have to sell yourself and you do it well mate.

Just to throw it out there, it made a hell of a difference deciding to party it up AFTER THE MEETING this time:doh:
