Sharp price mate, for a great bike... I would imagine it should move fast?
I do suggest anyone buying one fits a steering damper...

What is it to watch with this type of bike other than "its a modern litre bike" ? Two hints so far (steering damper, and handful to ride) so whats the full story?
edit: I see it's also re-registered and re-certified after an insurance company wrote it off.
cheers,
Steve

04/05 ZX10R in particular is known to be a bit of a twitchy bugger. Fairly aggressive steering geometry and throttle if I recall right. Hence the comments.

It wasn't so much an agressive throttle (hell, the ktm throttle is muuuuch more snatchy) but it was how it delivered the power.
@ DB: This was Kawasaki's first 1 litre bike, after the zx9r. Released in 2004, basically, the japs went by the numbers. To steer well, it needed an aggressive steering geometry. To go fast, it needed a powerful motor (most powerful in 04 too). To respond well, you sat high on the bike, so you were devoid of that feeling of being one with the bike, ie, sitting in the bike, rather than on. It also had a short chassis, to help turn in, etc. To help performance, power delivery was brutal, torque curve as smooth as the writing of a person with parkinsons.
Once they combined the lot, they didn't put a steering damper on stock (all the other litre bikes had them) and it was a wild package. Uncompetitive in racing, riders complained they couldn't ride it, and its favourite trick was usually high siding the rider (thanks to power delivery). Also, back in 04, bikes of its performance were reasonably new, and it killed quite a few people (well, people got themselves into serious trouble on them).
All in all, gained a bit of a cult status, and normally, those that now own them bought them for their reputation. What a ride they are :niceone:
I always loved the feeling it gave you. It always encouraged you to go faster, push it more, and if you screwed up, it was stoked to have "got you". I never had the feeling of other bikes that it would sort of, "help you through it". :devil2:

Thanks for the help guys. I wondered if it might be a good transition from by little 650 vtwin, but it's pretty clear its no learner bike. Still tempting though.

Steve Eh? Go back awhile to when some of us learnt to ride, bikes put out pretty respectable HP and weighed a ton combined with the fact they handled like shite,we learnt still plenty and are still here doing it.Awhile back i did some work on a mates kids bike, wee 2 smoker dirt bike that went like a rocket but weighed nothing, made me think back to learning on a SL125 Honda at 9 years old,to be honest i think it did me no harm.Theres 2 things that control a motorcycle, ones your brain the others your wrist.

Even my 650 is starting to feel 'little' after a year and a bit on it. Still, I can't really throw it about around town like I think I could, so perhaps I'm not ready for such a fire breathing monster yet. Another year perhaps.

1 thing that really sticks in my mind from the bhs test the guy said was ride to 70 percent of you potential, cant that apply to riding to the bikes potential aswell?

Steve Cant see any reason to throw any bike around town fwiw.Thats a well cheap bit of kit, taking into account that hes posted what he wants for it which is im betting more than he would take if need be then if i was looking for a new bike then i would be all over this thing like a rash.Old Kawasaki triples were fire breathing monsters this thing is very well mannered in comparison. At that money you couldnt go wrong.

The one thing I really learnt about the zx10 when I rode it a tad quicker than *cough* legally allowed *cough* was that you had to have both wheels on the ground if you wanted to go around corners. Bumpy roads and either wheel was spending a lot of time in the air.
Bear in mind guys, I traded an 04 zx10, with 21 odd k on the clock, october last year, yep, a few bits and bobs on it, but for 9k (ie, got raped).
This is a good buy (well, I haven't seen it, but zx10 for $7500 is damn good buying) and I was simply saying, whoever buys it, put a damper on, its the first mod recommended to them (if one hasn't already been put on).

Unreal!!!!!
Here in DE, you would expect to pay min NZD10,000 for a super cheap deal and normal deals are around NZD15,000 for a mint 04 ZX10.
I miss NZ :(

If you have the money, buy it now and sell it for 3k more in september......(I've lost this luxury now I have discovered the whole Sfighter bling thing.....)
would be a mint buy (depending on condition etc of-course)

It's not rape if you consented. Obviously you were not forced to take that price? Might be able to get it back in 150 years

Surely there shouldn't be any haggling over the price - I sold my '05 for $11k in July, times have changed of course but this is a hell deal!
And as for it being an unruly untameable beast, hell it's up to the rider to get used to the handling and power before cutting loose.
Only a retard would jump from a two fiddy onto this and give it the big right hand immediately. On the other hand, why not - it's fecking great fun!!

Yeh, I knew the price was low, but wasn't riding it, wanted the shiny new toy, and was sick and tired of spending time on selling it (I value my time).

hmmmmm. tempting upgrade to the 9. Mrs C would prefer a bigger tourer though.
Oh, and if you havent ridden a litre bike, or at least a late model litre bike, There is no possible way of explaining how quickly these things get off their arse.

Even though this bike seemingly has been repaired properly and recertified, what are the resale value limitations of having such an event in its history? I see a recent poll on KB showing some reluctance to buy a bike that had even been dropped let alone had any sort of moving contact with the road, and while I consider that to be pedantic, maybe others who I might sell it to later do not?
Any suggestions?
Steve
