Anyone else notice that TVNZ are using text language during the ad breaks? Took me a while to click what they were trying to say! :slap:

Why can't people spell proper? I suppose TVNZ is trying to appeal to the new generation. Still - if we produce a bunch of delinquents that cannot spell (or at least spell worse than me) there will be a job for me as an old fart to decipher all the novels, plays and other things that cannot be read anymore.

Is txt language acceptable in exams yet?

i think they made it possible a few years ago. would have been an instant fail when i was at school [left in 2002]
can see the effects of it at my main job, when being nosey and reading the "kids" units. none of them know how to spell. most of the kids are over 18, and its so sad to see so many up and coming drop kicks. most of them are only there cos winz makes them attend.

i noticed that on tvnz as well. took me a while to work out "ltr." its not like its saving them any space by dropping two letters, considering the txt version is 3 times bigger than it needs to be. pisses me off that they cover like, half the screen with whats coming next. like anyone really cares? just give me my fuckin full screen back!

I seldom watch state TV but last night watched Close Up to see what was "in our bacon".

I was amused by the woman who was complaining about too much salt and fat in the bacon, but almost fell off my perch when she then went on to state it also had too much protein!

It's meat lady! Of course it's got fucken high levels of protein

I couldn't believe the extent of the public message propaganda that Sainsbury and the other tossers were trying to inform the great unwashed of. Off with the telly and on with Radio Hauraki :Punk:

Edit: Oh and regarding text speak - if you can't be bothered spelling English, I won't waste my time trying to decipher the crap :finger: And the same goes for those that don't know the difference between there, their and they're.

Text language is unfortunatley a part of everyday life for those with cell phones. My Mother (75 this year) uses text words, very hard to figure it out at times, I think they are her own words thoughs, not the recognised text words.
Hate it or not, its something that most of us just have to adapt too.
Like when microwave ovens and video recorders were first introduced, possibly a little difficult for some to use properly to start with, but everyone wanted them and any difficulties were overcome.

Those that say...'' Yeah I texted him'' give me the best laugh...!

I like the simpler life to be honest, we still have a good working TV, years old now, but no desire to replace it. Our DVD player is just that, a player, doesn't do anything else, dont even have sky or any of that other wizz tech shit that is avaliable.
My cell phone is used for phone calls and txting, thats it. Dont ever use the camera.

Bring back Milk Bottles and the milkman for that matter!!!

No its not, the word is 'text'
I text him earlier etc.

Like the word past....when you pass a car, you haven't pasted it, you've past it.
It has something to do with the 'T' on the end....replaces the 'ed' or some shit.
Hitcher could probably explain it.

I still don't understand why the past tense of "text" is not "texted"

Yes indeed passed, my bad, but passed is one syllable with the 'ed added, unlike texted....school C english was a fail for me....<_<
But the 'T' on the end has something to with it....I used the wrong word in this case. Bling sent.

I didn't know what Str8jacket was referring to but saw it with my own eyes the other night - they advertised that a show was going to be on TV2 on "THU" which I assume is Thursday!

Bloody hell, we're doomed! Wonder if they're doing it on Teletext too? (Our new set doesn't have it.)

These statements made me laugh:
