i was thinking about getting a brand new 2009 ktm 300, but dont know if its worth spending all that money, are there any major frame or engine changes between the 08 and 09 300exc's???. maybe a second hand 08 would be the way to go?? or possibly a second hand 09 if i can find one.......what would you do??

Haha thought u would have done the research before claiming 09 goodness, check ktmtalk for ride reports, some of them would have actually ridden the different years. Always a big premimum to buy new, 2nd hand you'd save a lot (and actually get to ride this year :eek:)

id buy second hand, you lose a couple grand as soon as you hand over the cash

as for 08/09, seriously, are any of us gonna notice a few minor tweaks or ride a 09 faster than a 08? doubt it. 08 was supposed to be a great bike.

if your gonna buy new, just buy an old shitter like a 96 or so cr250 at a good price for something to ride, save up, sell the old shitter for what you payed for it, and your all good and havnt been bored shitless while saving

looks like im going to have to keep looking, the 300's are so hard to find second hand (the good ones). maybe theres a few bike shops that didnt sell a couple of 08's and they still have them brand new.???

the guy recons i could probably have it for between 9000-9500, but thats without the steering dampener and a couple of other carbon fiber bits. still too much to pay for an 08 with 114 hours???? its been on trade me for a while so maybe i might be able to offer him 8500 and see what happens???

If you are unsure or have doubts about buying 2nd hand then you're only option is new. That bike looks real tidy to me. Check for the usual stuff of course such as rounded off fastners, check air filter, rims for flat spots or run out, fork seals, steering head bearings, shock and swingarm bearings etc. If you're worried about it having 114 hours chuck a new piston and rings in it and it'll be like new. But if you really want new then you can only buy new.
p.s do the electric starters still crap out on these or have they sorted the faults?

so has it had a new piston or 2 or none? If it hasn't had one recently then take that price off and buy it. If he don't wanna take that price off then tell him to give you the dampener and tell him he doesn't want it anyway it's shit and his next bike he needs the ohlins (just spin some shit)

OK i looked at auction... he has done piston. You want all those extras tho man... that pipe guard looks phat and you def want the dampener... it'll make you faster and we all want shit that does that. Even if you have to pay a bit extra... get it. Find out the new price of an XRC dampener then add half that to your 9000 and make sure you get the other cool bits cos they'll add up to hundreds if you buy them yourself
