Hokay, I have bought an 84 RG250 for 200 bucks. Brakes need bleeding, front tyre has slow leak, forks are stiff as and back is mushy, assume someone's being playing with preload. Swingarm is a bit scarred but frame is great, no corrosion whatsoever. All fairings are present, quite tatty but no cracks or major gouges. Apparently the motor has a blown headgasket and holed piston, which to me suggests a problem with the cooling system, maybe thermostat? I'd like to know what mark rg the 84 would be, common problems with it, and how easy/much it might be to fix roughly. Pardon me for my shit post, I'm using a phone.

I doubt very much the cooling system was the problem.. a holed piston should only happen when the fuel mix turns very lean. (possibly the blowen head gasget let air into the pot that holed) over heating should only result in a seizure.
I hope you either know exactly whats you are doing with it or have lots of time, patience and dedication...
Great bikes, common problems...They blow up a lot unless they are set up perfect, the rear suspension linkages flog out, the antidive forks/brakes are a bitch to get working properly. These are some of the issues I know of from having worked on quite a few.
Safest to get the head resurfaced after a blown gasket, they warp real easy.

Does anyone know where you can get info on these? I think I've just bought one too!

Go to the RGV site there is an RG section there. Any old performance 2 stroke will have issues.
People used to put 350 YPVS engines in them. I know where one is that needs buying, it was built years ago but been sitting, not sure if it goes. Bodywork a bit tatty, sounds like a good starting point if yours is okish.
I have some std footpegs & hangers if someone makes me an offer.

The yamazuki conversion is a goodie too, makes an average bike, a real friggin fast one!
