Emoticons in rep messages

When you rep someone and include a message, how do you put an emoticon in that message ? I have never been able to do it but I get some messages that do include them...so how? And if the answer is so simple that I feel stupid, I'll have to jump off a bridge...

Find out what the code is for an emoticon, and type it in. For example, "niceone" with colons at each end is this :niceone:
The code is listed next to the emoticon in the "Smiley List".

NOT the Victoria Bridge - wayyyy too high - I get vertigo up high...I was thinking more along the lines of errrmmmmm the log across the stream at the bottom of my gully actually...and if I jumped off the near end, onto the bank the drop is only about 150mm....
