Last I read in Harold was that McD's were talking about bringing back some of the GP product through their McCafe chain, and given they're all about the healthy bullshit option, we'd be lucky to see the apple pie make a comeback.

Mate I haven't had a pie with you since that lunch at Stanley Road. That place has shut down now too so you didn't eat enough of their pies either.
Georgie Pie was cheap, especially when they ran the 75c pie for a while, but I always found them a bit undercooked for my liking, the pastry was never crisp enough.
Maccas are behind them now so anything could happen.

They did the BEST cheese and mince pie ever, I personally loved GP when it was around, Wounder if Porirua will get one? Mc Donalds bought them out here years ago and nothing happened to the site, Now there's a new mackers there....with drive through, I personally would rather eat dirt than mackers....

There's a bloke - calling himself GP Pies - in Kelston who claims to have the recipies for the Georgie Pie pies. According to a couple of sources, McDs is trying to shut him down, which I guess is a pretty good indication that he may be onto something. As I understand it, there's another guy down the line who claims the same thing.
The pies at GP pies are fantastic. But they don't have the crinkled edge that original Georgie Pie ones had.
Mmmm, pie.......

Pea Pie? I like peas but.....<_<
GP spent truck loads of money 12-13 years ago on a makeover mission only to be all gone about two years later. The cool thing about the pies was the the dollar value..and thier steak/cheese pie was hard to beat.

I remember a mate taking me to the one near where she lived in New Lynn - but I wasn't overly impressed. I also went to one in Wellington and, like Merv, found the pastry a bit undercooked. I love meat pies but wouldn't rush to Georgie Pie if they return.
Goodtime's Hub range are lovely, especially the New York cut peppered steak - mmn, I could eat those every day!
Stuff had a poll recently asking how often you ate takeaways - the options were every day, every few days, once a week and never. Obviously they don't take into account those of us who maybe eat takeaways once a month if that!

The humble pie... the only food which alone can support a three course dinner. There's the runny sort of pie (a sort of entree / soup pie if you will) followed by your savory sorts (as your main) then the apple and blackberry, custard or other sweet pie (as your dessert).
I'm sure the original pie inventor was a wannabee biker. Can you think of a biker you know that doesn't like a bloody good pie? Not me.
Wash your mouth out...... the bread is most certainly not toasted!!
I should have worked that out, bread that is not toasted is bread not toast...
I would like to see a satay beef or chicken pie on the revived menu...

FUCK YEAH GEORGIE PIE!!
Parents occasionally bring up the story...
Of how I was eating a pie, when some kid came up and hit my lady friend (we were about 4 at the time) and took her pie when the adults went to get their foods. Ma said she turned around and saw me punch the fucker right in the nose and push him over.
Pies are serious fucking business, guys. They better not take GP away again.

I was disappointed when GP closed. Nutricious food, well prepared and cooked, conveniently available and excellent value for money. They leave a big gap in the market. Other bakeries have good pies, but you don't have the predicatbility and ubiquity of GP. In any town in which you found yourself, if you saw a GP you knew you could get a good feed, And none of the other fast foods establishments have edible food, IMHO. Subway excepted, perhaps.
Wasn't the original store the Greenlane one and once they embarked on their hugely ambitious expansion plans building big eat in facilities all over the Nation just when everyone had grown so fat, dumb and happy they didn't want to get out of their cars any more and just do drive-in, so they (GP) over invested in real estate and lost their shirt. In swooped Maccas and the rest is history.

Disagree with the first bit - they went out of business because McD's bought them from Progressive (mainly cos they wanted the sites - that's actually McD's business, owning real estate; selling barely edible food is a sideline) and shut them down. At the time, they saw no point in being their own competitor.
Agree with the second bit. The problem is, if you're a visitor, you don't know about the local bakery's pies (I've had some terrible pies from local bakeries) whereas when you see the familiar sign, you know precisely what you are going to get (clogged arteries mainly).
Bit ashamed to admit that I NEVER tried a Georgy Pie the whole time they were in existance
Existance being to key word here...
They (for now) do not exist. They did however exist for a number of years (how long? not sure) I remember the outlets being Red in the early days, then the big makeover came and soon after, no longer existed.
I am guessing the people behind the resurrection of GP have looked deeply into what happened and why they couldn't compete in the massive fast food industry. Power to them and good luck.

Cornish pasties are as horrid as the little wizened Cornish fascists who inhabit the left lower corner of Britain, and who treat the rest of the world like foreign devils out to steal their pirate gold and perverted brown food.
Georgie Pie pies should remain a footnote in failed fast food chain history.
Any resurrection should come with an attendant caveat making the store a free target for Al Qaeda.
