Best has been projector HID headlights. It changes the whole look and presence of the bike.

Good tyres, noisy exhaust, hotgrips, etc are great, but HIDs get the prize for me.

Up until I went racing Id've said exhaust and power commander..................................but now after investing the $$ it'd have to be better suspension 100%.

after investing the $$ it'd have to be better suspension 100%.I would vote "digressive suspension" as number one mod also. I'm half way through collecting bits to do mine (WP shock, replacement spring) but it's not cheap - can run into the thousand(s). Maybe this summer.. I'm just so sick of bumpy rides.

Good tyres.
Good leathers.
Double bubble Puig.
But my favourite of all,has been a stainless micron can.
It's nice to be able to hear myself when riding with others.

Oh....And a 15 tooth cog up front has made an awesome difference.

on both the bandit and the sv650, the best 'mod' although really it's just part of setting the bike up correctly for yourself, is getting correct weight fork springs imho. Even without emulators, it makes a huge difference. I got mine from www.sonicsprings.com which are fairly cheap, depending on the exchange rate.

Comfort would be replacing rearsets with adjustable aftermarket ones and a double bubble screen, adjustable steering damper.Performance,Flashing ecu, aftermarket air filter,Tre,front/rear suspenders, replaced calipers with Busa 6 pots/braided lines.Other would be bits n bobs like undertray,6 bolt clutch etc.

Performance: Staintune highmount zorst, PCII, suspension (Elka rear shock, Sonic Springs fork springs)
Other: Higher wattage headlight bulbs, two extra horns, BlueSea fusebox.

Best mod ever? Quick turn throttle. Cost nothing to do, and takes the throttle action from 90 degrees down to about 55 degrees. Perfect.

Comfort: Rider brand seat modification (www.trimit.co.nz). Can literally ride 1600 km in 18 hours with no discomfort at all.

Performance: Suspension upgrade. (I fitted a Penske rear shock and Racetech front internals). Worth doing before anything else - couldn't believe the improvement. Your tyre life will also improve by a fair margin.

[QUOTE=erik;1129227098.......setting the bike up correctly for yourself, is getting correct weight fork springs imho.......[/QUOTE]

How do i determine what the correct fork springs are for me?
I weigh about 95-100kg.

Also, how do i determine what the right viscosity fork oil is for me?
Or is that just a trial and error thing?

Go to either the Racetech (http://www.racetech.com) site, or Sonic Springs (http://www.sonicsprings.com), and use their spring-rate calculator. Then, take the next weight down, as they seem to have a race bias (so if it says 0.90kg/mm, get the 0.85s). Either that, or tick "ride like a pussy", or pretend you've been on a starvation diet.

Just use what's recommended for your bike, or go one grade thicker if it's a bit bouncy. Ideally though, if it's too bouncy, you'd change the internals and go with a fairly lightweight oil.

Sweet.

I just don't want to shell out for complete Ohlins at this stage, and was just curious.

What i should do first,is play around with my settings, and stiffen things up just a little.

But at this stage, that's damn near impossible,as the weather is farrrking diabolical,i'll never get out to test it.:(

The 06 has .95 springs as standard, but they are horrible variable rate ones, I'd be thinking you'd need prob a 1.0 spring mate, as Pussy said, give either RT or Shaun a whistle.........they'll see ya right:msn-wink:

Why these aren't standard on all bikes is beyond me. Getting a set of these fitted for a couple of hundred dollars is the best investment that can be made to any bike.

What? Just the one bike? With nearly 40 years of bikes,I have modified every single one!

But my most common modification, and the one that made the most difference on my present bike - is handlebars.I have to be comfortable and in control of the bike,I'll change the bars to suit....sometimes I'll swap bars on the same bike just for a different feel as a change.

Bars, tyres and exhaust...all easy to do,all make a big difference - and my present bike has received all.

mods i've personally done....(exhausts, hotgrips and tailtidy aready done)

Comfort: renthal ultra lows, much better than th tagx5 that was on it. I guess more preformance related but its certainly a more natural feeling when leaning it over now

Convenience:

Performance: as before mentioned renthal ultra lows, good tyres michelin pp2ct, 15 tooth sprocket (thanks kendog goes quick now!)

Other: acerbis cyclops headlight, oxford micro led indicators (shite, will stick halogens from now on, leds are only better at night)

Relay in the headlight circuit and changed the 55/60W to a 90/120W. Awesome light on GSX1200. No good on newer bikes as the plastic lenses will melt. ZX got enough light already.

Hot grips, Velcro on for the winter, great for the 0400hrs starts. Feels a bit clumsey for the first few weeks.

Beeper on the indicators to remind me to turn em off. Worked well but felt like a twat at intersections. Didn't do it on latest bike.

It's an on-going thing but first off it was a change in handle bars and foot pegs while more recently I fitted different mirrors with slightly longer stems and better glass. Much better view and less elbow.

It was already slightly modified for better performance, so if it ain't broke I won't fix it. (And if it ain't broke I won't be either!)

Aesthetics? The simple removal of extraneous crap and the addition of smaller but brighter indicators.

Other than that they got it close to 'spot on' at the factory as fas as I'm concerned.

Convenience? I park it facing out so I can just roll her out and leap on.

I can't say which would be the most beneficial mod I've ever done but the most satisfying by far was a series of engine upgrades on my first Harley.

I know the whole things a bit of a swizz to get you to spend more dollars but I tell ya, after riding a bike for a few months you know exactly what it can and can't do, then you wake up one morning and your bikes like 25% quicker/more powerful, it's a hell of a buzz.

Imagine struggling up a big old hill in your lardy Holden/Ford thing cause it's an underpowered old poo bucket, then the next day it rockets up that very same hill..Yehaaaaaaa!

Still doesn't excuse Mr HD for not putting that engine in in the first place :oi-grr: but why would they when suckers like me sell thier grandmothers for another forty juicy horse powers. nom nom nom.

Any HD riders considering a big bore kit + exhausts + stage 35 kits etc etc, apart from playing into their hands and emptying your wallet, it sure does feel good to unleash some ponies.....don't forget to upgrade them brakes though eh. ;)
