Keep it coming. Looks like it's going to be a great bike when you've finished.
The digital speedo is a Acewell 2 series.......The front end is almost completes just need to finish of caliper adapter plate(made temp-plate up today) and need to bolt front rotor to hub,The bars arrived to day along with the tail light,so next on the list is a seat pan...one thing though the longer it takes the more its changing Not convinced with the mirrors at the moment or with the position of the mufflers, yet still plenty of time for the mock-ups to be done.........
Well since the last entry I have rebuilt another bike and made some changes too this one.....Pics will follow soon enough once new parts arrive from overseas Finally finding a front disc I was happy with (A 320 wave),Changed the MC19 caliper for a XR650 caliper and using a XR650 master cylinder, the front end is almost complete as in terms of how it will look, but I have Changed the drag bars for some clubman Bars, have ditched the 8" headlight for a 7" and ditched the GB instruments for a single Digital all in one 70mm unit along with sensors to plug into the old skool speedo fitting, I was going to use CBR250 switchblocks but have now settled on using a set of Triumph Daytona switch blocks, which keeps inline with modernising the bike but still keeping that old skool style/look about it.. After settling on the speedo I wanted,I have decided to install a fuel gauge sender in the tank as for the tank too fit around the GB motor it needs to be widen so its perfect timing really, The tail piece I got I have decided not too use it,but instead use the orignal seat base and build the tail peice from that, It will save mucking around with the frame too much and decided I didn't want a rear fender anyway....
Today I got the new carb for the 500,Whats wrong with the other one nothing really its just dated and as I am bring the bike's technology forward a couple of decades I have replaced the orignal carb with a CRF450 carb...... Considering there will be work done to the camshaft, valves, exhaust system and crank it only makes sense too look after the otherside of the motor.. So I am about half way through the total rebuild, but very close too getting the rolling chassis finished before I strip it all down for Painting and engine rebuild to start. I must admit its rather cool seeing the bike actually looking like a bike now as all the parts come together
I will suss it out sooner or later http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/en...it-Has-arrived
Well the seat unit arrived today so I have most of the parts too complete the rolling chassis just need to sort out the megaphone mufflers ,front brake rotor, front wheel spacers and front master cylinder.......so almost there before its striped down for painting rewiring and engine rebuild...... I do need to make up a new rear end to fit the seat unit however......Al though its been 25years since I handled a weilder I will get it done properly considering it will all be visible when the bike is completed, but saying that the missus has given me the go ahead to head down too the local Tradezone store and pick one out
... to the '80s, when I inherited a mutant 'XBR500RS', which needed some TLC. I don;t know the provenance of the bike, but my brother-in-law (a non-biker) gave it to me in exchange for painting his roof and fitting some guttering. It had a CB250RS frame and running gear, an XR500 engine, and Cycleworks megaphones. I stripped it completely, repainted everyhing (including the engine), fitted a new chain, sprockets and tyres, had the head fixed for free (had a leaking inlet valve), and spent some time mucking around with jetting before it ran more or less OK. Unlike yours, the tank had been "cut and shut" to clear the head. The bike was a bit of a mongrel, but one of the most fun bikes I've owned. All the best with your version, Sir!
Its is indeed..Somethings you cant make public Certainly enjoying this build but now have too fit It in between the other bike rebuild I'm doing http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...post1130042686
Is that you Barry? If i'd known you were on KB I would have charged you double for the motor, then held out an screwed you over for the carb and electrics. However your rebuild is fine looking and stick to your guns re.wire spoked wheels...they always look better. Lookn forward to more up-dates. Mark E.
