Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD)

BuckBuck#1 - An old Newbie, or a Newbie that is old.

My Personal Theme Song:Stand By Me...play it while you read on.

OCPD - Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder is little talked about. To get an appreciation I have provided an insight to my own family background and my years of coming to terms with a condition that at times was a huge struggle.

I count myself to be very lucky, retiring early - medically. I've been able to relax easier now, but still have my moments. With the assistance of good professional clinical management of my condition and with my family, I have been able to apply cognitive behaviour techniques and deal with issues and challenges a lot better.

Learning to ride a motorcycle, a rewarding challenge, was more than therapeutic - riding helps me immensely.

I hope you enjoy reading this blogg and that it provides an insight to how I learnt to ride - and continue to learn.

Personal Messages - PM's are welcomed.
Heads Up and Enjoy

  1. ACC and Progress A Philosophy

by , 29th November 2009 at 23:26 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
    You have a magic wand.

Tomorrow morning there is no ACC

The Work Account has been privatised.

The remaining accident cover ‘no fault scheme’ eg motorcyclist injuries, football/rugby injuries, cyclist injuries etc etc is held in abeyance for 5 years while a joint parliamentary committee is convened and a strategy put forward to replace ACC within three years and reviewed after a further two years.

At present ACC in its very basic format ...

    Epilogue

I hope you have enjoyed reading this review of my Newbie Training Update, in as much as the entries covered the recent formative years of learning to ride my motorcycle, I hope that in part, for those who particularly know me, that the Review gave an insight to the person BuckBuck#1. And for those who have read this blogg that have not met me out there on the roads of the lower North Island of New Zealand, I hope you have found a little something to take away when next you

  4. In Review Newbie Training Update The Next 18 Months 2008/09 – Riding Maturity

by , 19th August 2009 at 13:06 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
Over the following eighteen months there were numerous rewarding activities both out riding and here at the Kiwibiker website where I maintained several riding activity logs:

Where Did You Ride and What Did You Practice 2007
This was a regular fortnightly event: I created an inter-active participative forum whereby members would ‘write up’ their weekend riding and what they practised. From the pool of entries two were selected and copied across to the Newbie Training Update ...

  5. In Review – Newbie Training Update and OCPD - Full Licence –March 07

by , 25th July 2009 at 14:45 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
In addressing my OCPD today (2009), I can look back over the period May 2006 to March 2007, and my approach to motorcycle riding.

Though some may see a 'methodical approach', for others reading between the lines of what has been written, they may see degrees of 'perfection-anxiety-caution-catastrophe-avoidance', and in my opinion that would be a reasonable evaluation.

I have now spent over three years riding and approaching 65,000km, and one observation that was made: ...

  6. In Review – Newbie Training Update & OCPD Advance Riding & Defensive Riding 2007

by , 8th July 2009 at 15:53 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))
In addressing my OCPD, I think my whole approach to preparing for my Full Licence, is not only covered in part by doing the courses below, but also the extent to which I interacted with members of the Kiwibiker community.

Advanced Refresher Course And Defensive Driving Course

    Advance Refresher
Having clocked up 11,000km and taken the approach to my new found riding pleasure, I will undertake the Advanced Refresher course on 3 February 2007 with Andrew Templeton

  8. In Review – Newbie Training Update & OCPD Nov/Dec 2006 – Serendipity Part 2

by , 24th June 2009 at 10:58 (Motorcycling and An Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD))

My Mentor’s last comments to me over coffee at Staglands on a review ride just before I sat my Restricted Licence:

'Take your time in pushing the envelope a bit further.'

In many ways the DEE-FAP concept is summed up in his comment.
