My VTR I did a Bafflectomy but I only did the first chamber... was 95db and had no problem getting a WoF but every place is different.

I have heard of guys taking more out and even drilling holes to the next chamber, then it starts to cause issues...

Mine sounded ok... however it did need the carbs to be retuned since I had the dyno kit and power commander thingy and had been rejeted etc...

I didn't gain or loose any power just gave the deep Vtwin rumble... anyway sound is a personally thing what you like others won't and what they like you probably won't...

I really think you are right. Been wrestling with the idea even though is goes against my idea of quality fittings, so many seem to have done it. The scorpion I had on my VFR had a nice sound. Not too loud but still a nice tone.

Thanks man good to hear thoughts on the matter. I talked to Damon at Cycleworks who suggested gutting and rebuilding the stock items, which seems more appealing but I still lose the stock pipes if I ever want to revert back so will just wait till I can pick up some decent cans.

IMHO, a bafflectomy is a dumb idea. Not only will it not sound that great (it's very loud), but it won't improve performance, you may have trouble getting a WOF, and if so, you won't have the standard mufflers to go back to. Save your pennies and do it right.
My VTR had had this done, and it was crap.
