Tip toeing through the tulips it ain't! I guess Vlad didn't get to have his nasty way with your posterior for posterity!
So no advice on 4X2s for your chippy mates? They would not be so chipper about that, they wooden believe the story if you tried, so no need to drum up more excuses!

Free wife!? Egads! Things that desperate they need to throw wimmen at passing motorists?
Finally getting around to reading all your lovely ride reports. Marvelous!
The loss of Crete was due to many oversights. In addition to Hargest's failure to order a counter-attack on the first night, the failure to station troops west of the Tavronitis River and the failure to mine Maleme's airstrip after the RAF fighters were evacuated were mortal blows. I would dearly love to visit Crete one day.
Another inspiring tale best you check to see if you still have a pulse preferable in the daylight & if you DON'T smell a strong odor of burning flesh your OK to proceed
Interesting read. Corruption is sure bad in the Former East, I toured around a bit of the East before the wall came down and was once stopped in Yugoslavia by a lada driving cop...Radar he said and pointed at 110km on the BMW's speedo......yeah right.... wrote down the ticket amount and I counted it out...... was under a pound. I found playing dumb, and being prepared to wait worked at borders.... they always seemed to have " charges" Got pinged at the Romanian river crossing from Bulgaria for 'city taxes" then it was refunded by the real customs guy.... quite funny afterwards. Only time I had guns pointed at me was in Northern Ireland by edgy British Paras....they were fine when they heard the accent. keep the posts coming.
Thanks for the feedback. I enjoy writing and on a trip like this you have to put all the frustrations into perspective. Currently in Crete - where I have lost my documents but no worries Peter Originally Posted by Ascott Hi Dude, Thank you so much for these blogs, I don't know how you do it, I mean, have time to send these illuminating and humourous, renderings to us, good on you, and safe travels! Different world that... makes the thought of going there a little daunting with the targetting of tourists etc. In the USA, it would the death of a cop's career if he hinted at a bribe...

I went from the uk and through france, germany, denmark, sweden, norway, over the arctic circle, finland, russia, (out as far as possible and back again) ukraine, poland, southern europe and back to the uk. I went through 17 countries so i've missed a few out there. i bought a crappy old bmw f650 in london for $1200 bucks and sold it for $1250 when i got back there. Did 16000 ks and all in tents. piece of doddle. Pm me if you need to know anything, thoroughly recommended trip. Cost me $2600 not including the flights. so fuel, food and incidentals. You have to do austria, absolutely the best biking roads in europe and the most bikes you have ever seen, everyone in austria has a bike. And visit the ktm factory for the free tour, only on friday though.
Most excellent, sounds like a great trip - will be interesting to read your experiences along the way!
